my older brother discovered Jean Shepherd probably ~1971? our bedtime was 10pm and he'd play the radio very low. we were eventually busted, at which time i watched my parents consider what it was we were listening to for a few minutes, then saying we may continue.
i'm not sure we were still listening to it at the end of 1974. the story's familiar but i could've heard it more recently (probably wfmu)
