It’s a relentlessly soulful and hypnotic blend of American funk, jazz horns, and Afro-Cuban music, reflected through centuries-old Mandé tradition and blasted at top volume by some of the continent’s greatest artists. Led by legendary trumpet and saxman Tidiani Koné and held aloft by the intricate web of Djelimady Tounkara’s rumbling, reverb-soaked guitar, Rail Band’s sprawling compositions embody West African storytelling traditions while exulting in the technology and modernity of a newly independent Mali. Kanzafula refers to evolution and luminescence that comes from music. Ahmed Moneka delivers a joyful and transcendent mix of African grooves and Arabic melodies informed by funk, soul and jazz. - PR  1:21:04 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Bedouin Burger  Zamel   Favoriting Ma Li Beit  PopArabia  Two words, two worlds! First, that of the nomads of the deserts of the world, these men and women on the move who have patiently developed a frugal but tasty way of life. Then, that of the great powers of today, with cultural productions so appetizing that they ultimately impose standardized, globalized food on the rest of the planet. Right between the two, there is a duo who refuses to choose, who seizes everything they can play with. Lynn Adib found a partner of choice in Zeid Hamdan. For Bedouin Burger, Zeid invents new rhythms, crunchy and crackling, tending towards trance, above which Lynn's diaphanous voice hovers. - PR  1:27:39 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Cheikh Efrita  Chergui Gdha Bezzine (Saliha)   Favoriting Cheikh Efrita  Monograph  Cheikh Efrita reinvents a century-old Tunisian musical repertoire, projecting it into the present through a stylistic palette ranging from Footwork to Breakbeat and Post-Club. Amsterdam Klezmer Band  MesafeSofi (feat. Brenna MacCrimmon)   Favoriting Bomba Pop  Vetnasj Records  Bomba Pop, a collection of pieces written by various band members, was recorded in collaboration with DJ, pianist and producer Dunkelbunt, the pseudonym of Viennese Ulf Lindemann. The goal; an exciting, exuberant mix of traditional Klezmer, oriental melodies and modern pop music influences, combined with the distinctive popping energy that AKB has been known for for over two and a half decades. - PR  1:40:54 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Gordan  Šara   Favoriting Gordan  Glitterbeat  Gordan mirror the mysticism of legends and stories from the Balkan region, creating a music that stretches between expressiveness and abstraction; tradition and the avant-garde. The visceral vocals of Svetlana Spajic are both rooted and deeply interpretive. In turn, drummer Andi Stecher and Guido Möbius on bass and electronics, employ sonic strategies that steer the songs in inspired and unpredictable directions. - PR  1:46:24 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Zelenaya  Spod Tego Jawora   Favoriting Folk Songs    NYC's Zelenaya merges the haunting vocal harmonies of Eastern European polyphonic folk singing with the intensity of sludge, doom, and death metal. Bagedai  Jia Lin Sai   Favoriting Bagedai  Sea of Wood  Improvisational interactions between the musicians can be heard throughout the project, these subtle groove elements adding especially to the driving energy of the ensemble, with the striking traditional (untuned) vocals instantly bringing a human feel that conjures the atmosphere of a tribal Wa village hoedown. The musicians in this project include some veterans of the late A Mei’s seminal band Sigangli, which first drew attention to the Yunnan border county of Ximeng as a source of some of Yunnan’s most groundbreaking music in the late 2000s, along with some of the most promising next generation Wa musicians. - PR  2:14:44 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Nowadays she returned to Somaliland, the present album was recorded just before her travel back. - Bandcamp  2:18:28 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Mdou Moctar  Oh France   Favoriting Funeral For Justice  Matador  Mdou Moctar immediately stands out as one of the most innovative artists in contemporary Saharan music. Ike:

At first I thought this song was paying homage to a nonverbal vocal bit (“BLLLL-LLL-LLLLLL” is my best lousy attempt to describe it, but that’s not even close) that appeared in the early 90s in the Orb’s “Perpetual Dawn”. Not sure if it was a sample or original to the Orb. But upon further examination… nope, different BLLLL-LLL-LLLLLL entirely.
