Apifera | Ortogonelya | Keep the Outside Open | Stones Throw Records | 2024 |
This song reminds me of music one would hear during a segment of "Columbo" where the killer is preparing for some shenanigans, for example, in a darkroom to doctor a photo, or in a lab to mix up a poison they're putting in a syringe. https://apifera.bandcamp.com/album/keep-the-outside-open |

Led Zeppelin | In the Light | Physical Graffiti | Swan Song | 1975 | A friend from my old community radio station (the Brattleboro one) bought this for me when I complained on the email list that my very old copy was... very old. Lupo Citta | Only In Love | Lupo Cittá | 12XU | 2024 |
From Boston. This is a great album! It was mixed by Pete Weiss, who used to live in a town adjacent to Bellows Falls. I think that's pretty cool. https://lupocitta12xu.bandcamp.com/album/lupo-citt |

Neil Gardner | Said the Blackbird | Said the Blackbird | Half a Cow | 2024 |
Reissue of 1972 album. Neil Gardner’s Said the Blackbird might be the most obscure artefact of the singer-songwriter era. 50 copies were pressed in 1972 by Tasmanian label Spectangle in mustard coloured sleeves repurposed from unprinted surplus inners for George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass. This first-ever reissue by Half a Cow includes a facsimile of the original lyric booklet, which advises that the album was “recorded using Gnome Power.” https://halfacow.bandcamp.com/album/said-the-blackbird |

Jim Rafferty | I See Red | Drag City | 2024 | Single |
"Hmm, that name 'Rafferty' sounds familiar. I wonder if it's any relation to Gerry," thought I. Well yes, Jim is Gerry's older brother. Recorded in 1980. The elder Rafferty brother's musical career was victim to the Decca going-out-of-business debacle. Drag City remastered this single and released it in May. https://jimrafferty.bandcamp.com/album/i-see-red |

It sounded the same to me as it did on my old copy (minus a buncha skips and surface noise), but I don't have every nuance committed to memory.
I like reverb. :-)

... + the remastering is usually done by someone who wasn't even alive when the original was made, and their musical sensibilities are very different. (often terrible because they grew up with 80s music)

there used to be a tourist brochure floating around here that claimed "the locals" call the shawangunk mountain range "shomgum".
been here ~22 years and have only heard someone say "shomgum" maybe twice. both tourists.
