"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Were you listening to Jim the Poet and Micah on Tuesday? They were talking Nosferatu and vampire movies, and a caller tried to shift them onto the new Dylan movie, prompting Micah to bark, "Talk about a vampire!"

Which felt nicely definitive to me and pretty much sums up my current feelings toward Dylan.

Fatalist, not nihilist, I'd say. Nihilism is best thought of as "anti-foundationalism" -- we're on our own with no ultimate metaphysical truths to point to. Fatalism is the idea that all has been predetermined. Fatalism definitely lends itself toward reaction and anti-liberatory thought. Nihilism should lead to the opposite.

You know, in theory.

I made a lead box to keep my marbles in. hard to solder old sheets of lead that are covered with oxidation, and sanding that off to reveal bright, easily joined metal produces lots of hazardous lead dust! Then too, I managed to burn a few holes in the lead as some sponts overheated and there wasnt that much difference between the melting points of the lead or the solder, so if there were radiation in the marbles it would still get out!

This Jeff Parker album is a total winner. It's interesting to compare this version of Freakadelic with the one on his 2012 album "Bright Light in Winter"

Morning all. AM started off with a bang. Dealing with FedEx fuckup for days, and even though I specified a redelivery time, I literally had just gotten out of bed when I heard pounding on the door (again, no effort to use the buzzer in my building etc). So now I have not one but two cases of booze (1 mixed champagne/sherry, the other reds) that was supposed to get here a month ago for the holidays. So, I guess the next time I do a "come over and do my job, I need a nap," perks will also include some high end bubbly. I also have leftover ham and latkes (yeah, yeah -- mixed household growing up), lots of greens (finally ate an actual vegetable after the holidays last night), and of course PS4/5 privs. How is your Friday going? Sigh. I'm still half asleep. Mornings that start too fast for me tend to fuck up the day. Had the delivery guy leave both cases outside of my apartment door; will figure it all out where to put them later.

Can you please (or anyone else) please say more RE National Sawdust? I've been intrigued by some of the shows listed but haven't made it out yet. Is it standing room only? Accessible? OK bathroom situation? Acoustics? Thanks for any info.

So I was driving around with my three year old the other day, listening to Grant Green. My son said “hey, I like this song, what song is this?” I said “This song is called—“ and my son cut me off and shouted “JAZZ!”
