One of the best episodes of The Monkees tv series is "Monkees In Paris", which was a collection of scenes of the band going through Paris with 4 girls...hardly any dialogue but set to the songs of the Pisces Aquarius album. Bob Rafelson directed it, and a lot of it was shot in a similar cinema verite style as would show up in Easy Rider and other films Rafelson was involved in. Highly worth checking out. Anyway, Bill Chadwick plays one of the French police in that episode, I hope he talks a little about that experience because that's a classic moment of 60's TV and filmmaking that you just don't see anymore.

Just about 99% of everything done in Owen Bradley’s place in the late 50’s 60’s had a 6 string bass doubled with an upright bass. Owens’ brother always played the 6 string. Just listen to Brenda Laa hits.

Great audio example! They did this in Nashville before it made it to LA when the baritone guitar was a relatively new instrument. They did it just like Brian is doing on this Good Vibrations session, a Dano player would double the upright bass line with a palm-muted part. In Nashville they called it the "Tic-Tac Bass" because it would allow the bass line to be more percussive and cut through on AM radio.

P-90:

Producers would actually call players to sessions specifically for Danelecro bass as distinct from regular “electric bass “
or “Fender bass.” They also sometimes called it “Tic Tac Bass” because of the percussive, thin sound of the plectum-picked strings on the hollow Masonite guitar, versus the rounder, fuller sound of the solid-bodies Fender-style bass, usually picked with fingers.
So the call sheet would sometimes have two names on it, specifying a “bass player” and a “tic-tac bass player.” Or a single player called for “electric bass, tic tac bass” if they wanted a single guy to bring both to play on different tracks in a session.

I was just sleeping, having a dream that my band and Michael Shelley were recording albums at the same place (a big old church, and the house across the road, and the lawns lawns around them), and there was a big party and music festival going on while we were both recording, and I had to watch Michael's son while he went to do his radio show (remotely, from a closet at the festival) (yes, I know Michael doesn't have a son, as far as we know, and more importantly, we don't know each other well enough for him to leave is kid in my care) (don't worry, Michael, I'm a responsible babysitter).

We were both recording on 16-track tape, and both studios rooms were using the same control room, and there was some confusion about which tape belonged to my band and which tape was Michael's, because people saw me with Michael's son. You be relieved to know that I straightened it all out.

The phone rang and woke me up just as I was straighting out the tape confusion, and I don't know what happened to the kid. Jordan was there, so I assume she found him.

Oh, and of course it was THIS radio show he was doing, so I've been able to listen to the whole show, although I didn't remember which songs he played during the dream.
