That is an important point, adamdoesit. Very infamously, the ruling party in Rhodesia forced Thomas Mapfumo to record songs denouncing the liberation struggle. Late to the conversation again, but I must add this distant memory: When I was fourteen, a kid down the street lent me Burnt Weenie Sandwich by The Mothers of Invention. They cover an old doo-wop song called WPLJ by The Four Duces. It's a party song about getting drunk. The Mothers do a good rendition. However, they put a tag on the end where Jimmy Carl Black and Roy Estrada are conversing in Spanish in the most foul moth way possible.

In my long life of bringing questionable records into the house, it's the only song MY mother ever told me to take off the turntable.

In most sub-Saharan cultures, praise songs were a serious thing. The griots would travel to villages and craft epic tunes valorizing the chiefs and leaders. In this way they would be given room and board and be treated better than your average itinerant musician. Of course, over the centuries, the griots became the holders of history, having captured decade upon decade of the lived narrative of a people in their story/songs.

Freshman Spanish class in high school. A student reads aloud a written sentence of his own that includes "mierda en un plato." Teacher, a brother in a religious order, surprisingly only says, "Oh, no come a casa de Smith."
Couple years later year, a different student in Spanish II or III class steps to desk of teacher, a young woman lay teacher, he sees the grade on the work she hands him and he says, with fairly quiet despair as he steps away, "Are you shitting me?" 1799 The wheels and pinions comprizing the wheel-work.

1850 These substances which we have termed diamagnetic..and which comprise a very extensive class of bodies.

1907 The fibres comprising the zonal layer have four sources of origin.
H. E. Santee, Anat. Brain & Spinal Cord (1908) iii. 237

M. Peake, Gormenghast xiv. 86

1959 These fibres also comprise the main element in scar tissue.
Chambers's Encyclopedia vol. XIII. 653/1

1969 These essays together with those contained in this volume comprise the total of C. S. Lewis's essays on literature.
W. Hooper in C. S. Lewis, Sel. Lit. Essays p. xix

Now, "forward slash" is redundant usage.

That's like a swimmer doing a forward stroke.

A pedant might quibble with the redundancy of "subconscious inner" (you've got an *outer* subconscious?); but I think he's doing what he always does: bringing us all together.

There is a forward swimming stroke and a backstroke. Both propel and suit their intention. There is a forward slash and a backslash in writing, different usage/application/intention.

I dispute the claim that "subconscious inner" is redundant. We don't know where a subconscious exists, nor even if it does at all. It's a useful construct. Besides, Doug wasn't saying

"subconscious inner" DJ

He was saying

subconscious "inner DJ"

World of difference.

If subconscious can be outer, than so can consciousness, since the subconscous sits spatially below it. (Positing an unconscious instead gets around this spatial problem.) But hey, if anyone's surrounded by a cloud of being and knowing, it's gotta be Doug. All the room inside is taken up by rekkids!

Gotta say I love and dig the hanging rectilinear background piece in the playlist pic behind the sharp dressed men. (Real or from the bio pic/series?)
Love the good and bad and hokey and odd and styles-of-the-day that hit a good spot in variety show sets and backgrounds. Might've been fun to design them for a living. The ones behind or around solo or group performers that are strictly graphic or sculptural with limited real references. Victorian villages for Xmas specials...yawn.
