Currently experiencing The Failure of Doing Adult Stuff. Was supposed to go to the post office today but that would require showering and putting on decent clothes and shoes. If I save it for tomorrow, at least I'll be showered and dressed on a Friday and can go out after work. Also putting off cooking tonight (leftovers time) so that will happen tomorrow also I guess. I don't care that it's supposed to rain because it'll be almost 50F out and I'm not made of sugar and I won't melt. Working late today as I had a Sleep Failure last night also.

I tell ya...if there's a theramin something or other happening at WFMU, I need to again say: this is just the sort of shameless promotion of an experience that could expand the fitness of someone's brain while, at the same time, producing sounds that bring about a dramatic production of seratonin, melatonin, oxytocin, and endocanabanoids that I've come to expect from this travesty of a station, that continues to promote its seditious values, among them encouraging learning experiences that are fun and rewarding.

Heinous. Just heinous.

If these selections are the kind of shameless promotion of intelligent and fun things to stretch the mind, I say this is the kind of rebellious outrage that some find, well, at outrage.

This kind of subversive, biased promotion of creative production to spur outside the box thinking is just the sort of thing that could make people decide to become, well, consious and reactive beings, as opposed to mindless consumers.

Shameful.

Speaking of creation, and Creativity, Three moons: One of the truly heartbreaking things about the revelations concerning Neil Gaiman, if indeed they are true, is that this is the same person who gave us a wonderful speech that contained a noble piece of advice: Make Great Art.

So difficult to reconcile such a wonderful piece of advice from a source that proved to have, well, if all this is true, a side. I will not put an adjective in front of the word "side" to try and define this other side the person had. That will be for many to judge.

Such a beautiful quote, and at the same time, possibly, so painful to think about, when thinking (again, if these acusations are true) about so many people hurt so badly.

Back in college I had a little rinky-dink theremin-- just a tiny box with an antenna you could stick on a mic stand. My band at the time had a schtick where I would come out with a guitar (which I don't play) and very earnestly say, "This is something of a departure for us, but I've learned a new instrument, and we'd like to do something more serious to showcase it." We'd then do a completely straight cover of "Close to You" until the instrumental bridge, when I would put down the guitar and WAIL on the theremin for a few minutes. Then we would finish the song as normal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm

Wondering about effects downstream of a Theremin. Almost seems like most musicians aren't monkeying with the sound that much?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm

Honestly think it was FMU that anchored in my mind what a theremin was and its role in contributing its distinct sounds to various songs and soundtracks. Likely learned it from Clara Rockmore records either being broadcast or offered via the Catalog of Curiosities.

greetings, Fabio! Failure Family!

been listening since the beginning of your show, just not able to turn the computer on until now :(

THANK YOU for bringing us Dorit Chrysler! what a mind-blowing set -- definitely going to listen again and again via the archives :)

and YES! do go experience Blue Velvet in the theater if you are able -- you will be immersed in one of Lynch's most haunting and beautiful worlds

also opening tomorrow, at IFC: Picnic at Hanging Rock -- which is 50 years old?!? quite possible my favorite film of all time (despite being ridiculed incessantly by others over the years, haha!) -- a "4K restoration" -- so, not the same as when i saw the film for the first time in the late 1970s (at The Thalia?) but totally worth seeing "on the big screen"

As a kid in the early 70s I went to school in Central London. I'd knock off sports & go round the record & comics shops.

There was this beanie hat wearing woman who lived in a street furniture alcove on the Strand, she had many black bin liner bags that she was always fussing over.

We'd take the piss (not to her face, we were too timid).

Years later when she made her comeback there were photo of her sitting there & it's only then we realised who this homeless woman was
