I actually don't know what it's from! I sometimes look for cinemagraphs (really subtle gifs usually from films), but they aren't always ID'd. Regardless, I support the implied sentiment of this one.

Yes! That GIF is really something. On the bank of The L.A. River, I believe. One thing I know for sure, it's not a recent photo,. How do I know, well there's a Southern Pacific GP 20 poking into the frame on the right hand side.

Yup! I can afford this house because it's old, on a little piece of land, in one of the poorest towns in Vermont, and my back yard has a really old freight line running through it.
I grew up with the whistle and the clanging and the engine cool-downs as my lullaby and I love those sounds.

When I lived in Jersey City and could walk to the Salvation Army near the Holland Tunnel, I bought myself the sweetest cotton cardigan. Black and white horizontal stripes. Fits me so well. I think I bought it in 2009. Well, the sleeve cuffs are ragged. I replaced some of the buttons. The tag (before I removed it) was pulling at the knit, so there's little holes there. I'm not sure how to fix this sweater and maybe I just won't.

Killer Seattle band, late 80s/early 90s. Punker than the grunge stuff but walked / talked amongst those bands and were respected by Mudhoney, Nirvana, etc. Singer Mia Zapata was raped and murdered walking home from a bar around '95, I think. Was featured on that "Unsolved Mysteries" tv show -- they eventually caught the piece of shit who did it. He died in prison a few years ago.

apropos of nothing (maybe anthropology) i recently read an account of an anthropologist who visited a tribe of cannibals... he stayed with them for a time but he saw no cannibalism, then an old woman died and her body disappeared. after some investigating the anthropologist found out the cannibals had eaten the old woman... the cannibals told him "we were hiding it from you because we know you don't approve and we didn't want to hurt yor feelings... the antropologist asked them why they ate flesh and they said it wasn't for spiritual reasons to absorb the spirit of the person they were eating it was "that the nmeat tasted so good"
