Had some non alcholic beers not long ago; better than I remember them years back (when they had no taste relation to beer at all), but still won't fool anyone that they're real beer. Don't drink often, but jazz clubs often insist you meet a minimum...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
doctorjazz:

Back in the 90s I did a bunch of my own beer brewing, got some good batches (I had to empty about 60 resealable Grolsch bottles to have something to put the finished product in-tough job, but somebody had to do it).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm

It's very exacting, like baking I'd bet (not that I bake). Have to be very precise, and extremely sterile-bacterial contamination of a batch causes off flavors.

I was also a home brewer in the early 90s. Yep, a lot like baking. I once got lazy sterilizing bottles. The resulting explosions were unpleasant.
Avatar 🥁 6:43pm
Listener Gregory:

↳ doctorjazz @6:37
When you started the first time, it was a lot harder to get interesting beer, so it was probably more rewarding (when it worked). Now if you can choose among 40 craft brewers at the store, you need a specific motivation to brew your own.

Woods also soloed on some Pop/Rock hits
Perhaps his best known recorded work as a sideman is a pop piece, his alto sax solo on Billy Joel's 1977 "Just the Way You Are". He also played the alto sax solo on Steely Dan's "Doctor Wu" from their 1975 album Katy Lied, as well as Paul Simon's "Have a Good Time" from the 1975 album Still Crazy After All These Years.

He also played on quite a few Oliver Nelson records, including some of the ones we don't hear much today. He could sight-read, and Nelson needed people who could play his arrangements with little rehearsal and then take a decent solo.
