Ginsberg became a very rabbinical sort of elder statesman. Burroughs did pretty well surprisingly ...but he might've conceded Dion's points to some extent. Kerouac ...foresaw the new culture but didn't see a place for himself in it. He didn't end well ...but partly because he stayed in the old Conservative culture more than he should have. But he's right in that case about alcohol & relationships & all this...

Rick Nelson was one of the most influential, pre Brit-invasion, pre surf music, music icons of the '60s. Record sales says all. He wasn't doo-wop, nor pretending to be. He was just the really good looking guy, with talent and charisma, that everyone liked. Arguably, he influenced more young boys (mostly) to pick up the guitar then, say, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, or even Scotty Moore.
