Illy Bleeding, Los Robotos Trucosos  Grotesque Ornament   Favoriting Illy Bleeding y Los Robotos Trucosos  Hip Latin Music  2021  After 13 years, the Hip Recording label is releasing a new edition of the CD and is presenting the first vinyl edition of the album Illy Bleeding and Los robots trucosos, the latest project by Jaime Keller (1960-2010), known in the music world as Illy Bleeding , vocalist of the legendary band Size, pioneer of postpunk and Mexican new wave in the 1980s. Illy Bleeding, considered the first Mexican punk, recorded this material in 2010 and the release was a month after his death, in October of that same year. Illy Bleeding and Los Robotes Truosos indirectly revitalized the Mexican dark and post-punk revival scene, and also revived interest in the underground scene in the capital in the eighties.    0:06:25 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Le Shok  Fade In Fade Out   Favoriting We Are Electrocution  Le Shok  2000  Le Shok was formed in 1997 (originally under the name Shock) by Asshole Andrew (Treadwell) on guitar, Joey Juvenile (The Locust) on drums, and Hot Rod Todd on vocals. After hearing a rehearsal tape, Darryl Licht (Action League) joined the band on keyboards, and Over the Counter Rusty (Treadwell) joined as bassist. The band released four seven-inch records on various labels, and in 2000, Gold Standard Laboratories released the band's sole album, We Are Electrocution, and the band went on a nationwide tour of the United States. Following the band's break-up, members of Le Shok played in bands including Nazti Skinz, Neon King Kong, The Distraction, T-Cells, FM Bats, God's Iron Tooth, Sex Powers, Rats in the Louvre, and Dirty Girls.    0:09:21 (MP3 | Pop-up)
XX-Teens  B-54   Favoriting Welcome to Goon Island  Big Billy Records  2008  XX Teens were an English five piece post-punk band, originally formed of graduates from the Byam Shaw School of Art in North London. They began performing as Xerox Teens, but with a growing fan base, an eponymous club night, and airplay from Zane Lowe, Marc Riley, Jon Kennedy and Steve Lamacq, the band came to the attention of the Xerox Corporation. After some discussion they decided to change the name to XX Teens. They collaborated with Cerith Wyn Evans to mark Modern Art Oxford's 40th anniversary, were photographed by Hedi Slimane and performed for Martin Creed at Tate Britain. Other notable performances included the Royal Festival Hall for Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown and a landmark showat Studio Voltaire where they performed with dancing dogs.    0:10:51 (MP3 | Pop-up)

THE SCRIBBLERS  Mark E. Smith   Favoriting The Scribblers  Kid Chocolate & Luz  2014  The interplay between vocalists here, plus the track gives me major Fall vibes. I also think the lyrics are pretty hilarious and would have made Mark laugh. This band is not the scribblers which is two kids from Missouri. It's also not Scribble, the post punk band from Australia. This band is from...some mystery place, however this release can be found on Poor Records.    0:17:17 (MP3 | Pop-up)

The band were described by NOW in 2003 as "the best new band in Toronto", and were strongly associated with the Torontopia scene of the era. That year they also recorded a radio session for BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. They disbanded in 2005    0:20:25 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Head on over to CLICK THIS LINK TO PLEDGE TO WFMU (via TxFmEchoBeach) to donate $20 or more to claim this prize. Their third LP On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System… sees the band serve up a beefy slab of their speciality Modern Lovers-meets-Nuggets garage-rock. There’s B-52’s call-and-response fun mixed with AC/DC power chord grunt. Leaning towards fast-paced punk, opening double salvo War Movies and Quality Pints sets out the stall: Dual-vocal piss taking, surreal takes on everyday topics that go full circle and become profound, riffs all day long and then all the next day too. Quality Pints deals with the pressing concerns of any conscientious touring outfit, taking to heart the rule of the three R’s as penned by renowned fellow pints fan Mark E. Smith of The Fall: Repetition, repetition, repetition.    0:22:47 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Jetstream Pony (feat. Elini Poulou)  The Relativity of Wrong   Favoriting Bowerbirds and Blue Things  Spinout Nuggets / Shelflife / Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten  2025  Brighton UK's Jetstream Pony shared this song Feb 28, in advance of March 28's full-length. This track features Elini Poulou; a multifaceted artist involved in countless projects & also known for her decade & a half playing in The Fall with Mark E Smith, to whom she was married. As for Jetstream Pony... "Jetstream Pony combine post-punk, indie-pop and power-pop, featuring Beth Arzy (The Luxembourg Signal/Trembling Blue Stars/Aberdeen) on vocals and percussion, Shaun Charman (The Wedding Present/The Popguns/The Fireworks) on guitar and vocals, Kerry Boettcher (Turbocat) on bass, Tom Levesley on drums, and recently joined by Mark Matthews (The Dentists/The Treasures Of Mexico) on guitar. ///// The group released their debut single ‘Like You Less / Had Enough’ in late 2017, on Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten. Two sold out singles followed, leading up to the self-titled debut studio album on KUS/Shelflife Records in May 2020. The album received fantastic reviews, selling out two pressings before being reissued (twice) by Spinout Nuggets in the Autumn and reaching many best-of-year lists. //// Another single release, ‘If Not Now, When?’, also sold out later in 2020, and a following mini-album ‘Misplaced Words’ arrived in December 2021, developing the sound from the debut with a balance between indie-pop and something darker – twelve-string guitar and harmonies, but underpinned by heavy bass, and sometimes a two-drummer rhythm section. //// Jetstream Pony return with a new full length album ‘Bowerbirds and Blue Things’, for release in March 2025 on Spinout Nuggets in the UK, and Shelflife Records in North America. The band’s evolution continues, and there are branches into new territory. //// ‘The Relativity of Wrong’ is driven by heavy bass, a tale of youthful misbehaviour, with guest vocals from Eleni Poulou, formerly of The Fall." https://jetstreampony.bandcamp.com/  *   0:34:59 (MP3 | Pop-up)
The Passage  New Kind Of Love   Favoriting New Love Songs 7"  Outside Records  1978  Amongst the earliest Fall-adjacent releases... Released Dec 1978 w/ [co-founding member of The Fall] Tony Friel on Bass & Guitar. He wrote two of the four songs on the 4-song 7", this one closes out the B-side. Dick Witts [now a music historian], helmed The Passage through all its phases; providing his distinctive sharp vocal delivery ^ also the percussion on this release. Bass [Uncredited], Guitar [Uncredited] – Tony Friel ////// Keyboards [Uncredited] – Lorraine Hilton ////// Vocals [Uncredited], Percussion [Uncredited] – Dick Witts ////// "Tony Friel's two tracks "The Competition" and "New Kind Of Love" are equally as critical of love's gender roles, but take a more accessible and intellectual approach. Soundwise, the EP is a quite rawly delivered combination of bass/drums/keyboards, the band sounding like an under-cooked combination of The Fall, Suicide and John Foxx-era Ultravox fronted by Pete Shelley's misanthropic younger brother. Not bad for a first offering and interesting as an artifact from this era, but nothing that's going to beg repeated listens."    0:37:36 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Blue Orchids  The Flood   Favoriting The Flood 7"  Rough Trade Records  1980  Debut 1980 release from founding ex-members of The Fall guitarist/vocalist Martin Bramah & keyboardist Una Baines. Martin Bramah continues making music to this day; both with his ever ongoing group Blue Orchids & also three studio albums deep into his recent Fall-ex-member filled HOUSE Of ALL project, featuring no less than 6 members through the decades of The Fall + one extra Blue Orchid. This is where his first non-Fall related ventures started.    0:39:21 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Brix & The Extricated  Tannis Root   Favoriting Super Blood Wolf Moon  Grit Over Glamour  2019  Seemingly this song is Brix Elise Smith Start's take on Rosemary's Baby. Final (3rd) album from this ex-Fall-filled super-group..."Brix & the Extricated are a British post-punk band, formed in 2014 in Manchester, by ex-Fall members Brix Smith Start (vocals/guitar) and Steve Hanley (bass guitar). //// The band formed in 2014 in Manchester, following the launch event for Steve Hanley's autobiography The Big Midweek, to which Brix Smith was invited. Four of the five members were one-time members of The Fall: Songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Brix Smith, long-term Fall member Steve Hanley (bass guitar), his brother Paul Hanley (drums) and Steve Trafford (guitar and vocals). A fifth member, Irish guitarist Jason Brown completes the line-up. Though their live set initially consisted of Fall songs they had co-written, this quickly expanded to include the new material which featured on their debut album. //// They performed four live sessions for fellow ex-Fall member Marc Riley's 6 Music show, played the Latitude and Rebellion festivals and completed several successful tours of the UK."    0:51:00 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Their inaugural sonic instalment 'Something Looming' is part trades club symphony, part itchy serenade, and part wistful lament. As their heady concoction of 'Meades meets Pat-E-Smith meets Kirklees Borough Council' gets prepped to be formally baptised on a dank stage near you, Upset the Rhythm and Feel It Records have dutifully stepped in to deliver its songbook to the masses on both sides of the pond. Formed when Lindsay Corstorphine and Christopher Murphy of Sauna Youth and brethren Oliver and Patrick Fisher of Cold Pumas were summoned by northern ink-slinger Maike Hale-Jones, Marcel Wave's debut offering is a walk through a smoke-filled pub with yellowing wallpaper and all eyes on you. It's a chronicle of the death of the docklands, the decline of industry, of the high street, of civic pride, of civilisations, of hopes and dreams.    1:05:35 (MP3 | Pop-up)
I, Ludicrous  Three English Football Grounds   Favoriting It's Like Everything Else  Self Released  1987  Contemporaries of the Fall, I Ludicrous had a fan in one Mark. E Smith. Formed in South London in 1985 by John Procter (guitar) and David Rippingdale (AKA Will Hung) (vocals). A drum machine completed the lineup. With a confirmed Fall influence at work musically, some have likened the group to Half Man Half Biscuit, largely it would seem on the basis that they too write songs that are occasionally satirical or sardonic, containing social commentary and referencing popular culture. They also have a few songs about football.    1:08:10 (MP3 | Pop-up)

The Jazz Butcher  Southern Mark Smith   Favoriting Southern Mark Smith 7"  Glass  1983  The Jazz Butcher was the alias of British singer/songwriter Pat Fish. The line-up of the band changed frequently, with Pat Fish being the only constant. Notable members included band co-founder Max Eider (Peter Millson), David J. (Haskins), Owen P. Jones, Rolo McGinty, Alice Thompson, Paul Mulreany, Alex Green, Richard Formby, Kizzy O'Callaghan, Curtis E. Johnson and Peter Crouch. On 1 November 1982, Fish was approached to open for fellow Northampton band Bauhaus. The whimsical nature of the Jazz Butcher band did not impress the headliners' goth followers. "The massed audience listened politely, if disconcertingly quietly", reported the Northampton Mercury and Herald. Fish was "pleased to survive the experience". Fish had assumed that Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins had arranged their spot on the bill, as Kevin and Fish were friends; only to find that it was Haskins' brother David J. who had taken an interest in The Jazz Butcher. The summer of 1983 found Fish and Eider back in the studio with McGinty and Thompson (who had now formed The Woodentops), joined by Kevin Haskins on drums. The result was the single "Southern Mark Smith". The single gained some national recognition, having been played on “hit-maker” John Peel’s Radio show.    1:15:23 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Electricity In Our Homes  We Are All Trooping Off in a Big Group   Favoriting Dear Shareholder  Fierce Panda  2012  Formed and based in London, Electricity In Our Homes are utilitarian in sound and vision. Taking inspiration from Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, Prince and the best of British DIY, they wear identical minimal attire their live shows are an exercise in conciseness, often teetering on the edge of chaos.    1:18:52 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Selfish Cunt  Fuck the Poor   Favoriting No Wicked Heart Shall Prosper  Horseglue  2004  Selfish Cunt were a rock band based in London, England. Head on over to CLICK THIS LINK TO PLEDGE TO WFMU (via TxFmEchoBeach) and donate $20 or more to claim this prize! LeGroulx composed the music for Bad Trouble, recording guitar, bass, and drums in tunings that stand in stark contrast to traditional Western consonance. Reich completed their songs with her spellbinding vocals, weaving vulnerable themes of aging as a woman and artist, environmental devastation, and feeling like an outsider in her own generation. //// Fans of rock music in unusual tunings can trace a direct line from the Velvet Underground to Glenn Branca’s influence on Sonic Youth to Horse Lords’ refretted instruments. Body Breaks can now be added to this exploratory lineage, yet the duo also harken back to the slacker sound of Pavement, Os Mutantes’ fuzz, and Palberta’s ramshackle approach to pop.    1:26:19 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Marc Riley  Favourite Sister   Favoriting Favourite Sister / Carry Mi Card 7"  In-Tape  1983  This song was written in 1982 during the 'Room To Live' sessions when Riley was still in The Fall. Co-written by Craig Scanlon, who plays on the track alongside Steve Hanley & Paul Hanley. Once again, an early-era Fall splinter. This lineup would record four tracks (this debut single + two songs later) before Marc Riley would recruit a new band and brand them "The Creepers" ///// "'The Creepers were an English rock music group, formed in Manchester in 1983, originally as Marc Riley & The Creepers. After being dismissed from The Fall by Mark E. Smith, Marc Riley formed his own record label (In-Tape) with Jim Khambatta, and his own band. The first single "Favourite Sister" was followed up with "Jumper Clown", which poked fun at his previous band's leader. A Peel Session was the source of the next release in 1984, with a compilation of these early releases, Cull, following the same year. First album proper, Gross Out, appeared in June of 1984. 1985 saw the release of second album Fancy Meeting God as well as a swansong live album Warts 'n' All towards the end of the year. ///// Riley then recruited ex-Membranes Mark Tilton and Phil Roberts of Shrubs, and carried on as simply "The Creepers". With a more sophisticated sound, the first release under this name was a cover of Brian Eno's "Baby's On Fire", with the album Miserable Sinners following later the same year. After signing to Red Rhino, a further single, Brute and album Rock 'n' Roll Liquorice Flavour appeared in 1987 and 1988 respectively. Sleeper: a retrospective, followed in 1989. //// The band briefly became The Lost Soul Crusaders before splitting up."    1:37:36 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Imperial Wax  Rammy Taxi Illuminati   Favoriting Gastwerk Saboteurs  Saustex Records  2019  The 3 principle members of the last line-up of The Fall carried on with Mark E. Smith's blessing (and apparently also his encouragement & musical directions.) This song, to me, sounds most akin to the spirit of what made late-era Fall epics special. "Imperial Wax are a British alternative rock band, formed in 2018 by guitarist Pete Greenway, bassist Dave Spurr and drummer Keiron Melling, all had previously played together in the final line-up of the long-established post-punk group, The Fall. After the death of the Fall's vocalist and band-leader Mark E. Smith, the trio recruited vocalist and guitarist Sam Curran to form Imperial Wax. The band describe themselves as, "noise rock & garage brawlers unafraid of a psych workout or a rockabilly dust-up." //// Formation: Greenway, Spurr and Melling had been the instrumental core of the Fall's line-up for over a decade when Mark E. Smith died in January 2018. After Smith's death, the trio played their first live gig as the backing band to former Can vocalist Damo Suzuki in Salford in May of the same year. They were then joined by Curran, formerly of Leeds-based punk band Black Pudding, naming themselves after the first Fall album that they had worked on together, 2008's Imperial Wax Solvent. They played their first show as a four-piece at The Troubadour, London, in February 2019. ///////// The band's debut album, Gastwerk Saboteurs, was recorded with Andy Pearce, the former in-house producer at Real World Studios, and released in May 2019 on the Texas-based label Saustex Records. The album was released on vinyl (including a limited edition of 150 copies on pink vinyl), CD and digital, with the CD and digital versions including three extra tracks. A limited edition, lathe-cut clear vinyl 7" single of two of the tracks, "The Art of Projection"/"No Man's Land", was released around the same time."    1:40:45 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Von Südenfed  Serious Brainskin   Favoriting Tromatic Reflexxions  Domino Recording Co. LTD  2007  "Von Südenfed was a collaboration between Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner (of Mouse on Mars), and Mark E. Smith, leader and vocalist of the Fall. //// The three first collaborated on a 2004 12" double A-side entitled "Wipe that Sound"/"Cut the Gain", which was released on the Sonig label. This was followed by a full-length album, Tromatic Reflexxions, released on Domino Records in 2007, with two singles being drawn from the album: "Fledermaus Can't Get It" and "The Rhinohead". //// This collaboration of artists from very different musical genres has drawn comparisons to John Lydon's collaboration with Leftfield on the track "Open Up", which is similar in spirit, if not in sound. //// Von Südenfed have been compared to LCD Soundsystem in reviews; Smith expressed displeasure at this comparison in interviews, and drew attention to the fact that LCD Soundsystem are heavily influenced by the Fall. //// Following the cancellation of two Von Südenfed shows due to illness in December 2007, Smith stated that he had been "sacked" from the group. Despite this, he later performed live with Von Südenfed, and reportedly said that a second album was likely. However, there is no indication that sufficient material was recorded before Smith's death in January 2018."    1:50:24 (MP3 | Pop-up)

"Darker My Love was a psychedelic rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Guitarist/vocalist Tim Presley, a former member of the hardcore punk band The Nerve Agents, formed the band in 2004 with drummer and former Nerve Agents bandmate Andy Granelli, then also of The Distillers. They were joined shortly thereafter by bass guitarist Rob Barbato, who shared songwriting and vocals with Presley, and rhythm guitarist Jared "The Sandwich" Everett. Will Canzoneri joined the band on organ and clavinet in the latter half of 2006. The band released three LPs and one EP. Presley is also a visual artist responsible for much of the band's imagery. //// The band's name was derived from a T.S.O.L. song of the same name. //// Originally signed to Tarantulas Records, Darker My Love released its first EP in 2004. Their first LP, recorded in 2005, was released on August 22, 2006, on Dangerbird Records. In spring 2006, Presley and Barbato became members of the prolific British post-punk group The Fall [immediately replacing the three British members that left the band mid-tour, citing Mark E. Smith's erratic & intolerable behaviour at the time].... Both are prominent on The Fall's 2007 album Reformation Post TLC."

I've no secure connection so it won't be till tomorrow that I'll cough up myself (providing things work out)

I've 100 hard saved quid {I'm long term unemployed, my brother pays my net connection) which I'll split between 10 shows.

With fall live yt clips there's often 2 versions the original camera version & then one with better separately recorded audio from the same gig dubbed on. Doubtless you know this but Justin Case is a friend to us all

Aww, you are all great. My dad worked decades for Canada Dry (+ my brother & I for a bit...) It kinda destroyed his soul when Coca Cola took it over and changed the culture to a corporate one. I can't really recall one that's specifically about it, but drinking is certainly mentioned loads of times & there "no beer, no cigarettes" in US 80s-90s & "drink the long draft Dan" in Hip Priest.

& there's the $500 Bottle Of Wine

But you can see all the mentions of beer lager whisky & (especiall) drink/drinking in Danny No1's Flickering Lexicon Concordance

Yes, $500 Bottle Of Wine was the one I thought of right away... I'm sure there's lots of others, but my multitasked brain is a little flustered at the moment... in And Therein... there is the lyric "he turned water into wine & insisted we all eat swine", if that counts. Oh, and "The burning scotch of another day, over" lyrics in Guest Informant. Oh, and 'Elves' asks "When will the price of scotch come down?" over & over, haha.
