I have been thinking about the recliner that my grandfather loved, and I've been wondering if it's time I get one...? Is Marla ready to wander into the living room and find me snoring while "The Rockford Files" is playing?

I recall that one had a great theme song, but I don't think I've seen one since the 90's. Was it good?

I watched Matlock a bit with my father. I was more of a Barnaby Jones, Banacek, McCloud, Columbo fan. Heck, I could add to the list: McMillan and Wife, The Snoop Sisters, Ellery Queen, and on and on. Courtroom driven series like Perry Mason were okay. I liked watching the detectives. Wait! There's more: Ironsides, I, Spy, Kojak, Police Woman, Cannon, Mannix, etc. The Rockford Files topped the list as all-time best.

Hell yeah. I feel like the best radio shows sound like good mix tapes. WFMU / Sheena's often achieves that.

Closest thing I can think of a modern version of them are playlists on Spotify

The 20-somethings at work all have strong feelings about their digital playlists. But they're missing the strange clips between songs, tv commercials, your friends hanging out at the donut shop... all the stuff between the songs that made the best mix tapes AWESOME.

I'm probably of that generation lol, but I listen to my Dad's old mixes I understand the vibe you're talking about. I learnd how to make mix tapes with an old pal and we would just experiment on a tape deck we bought at the local thrift store.

So I am relatively new to WFMU, who is Sheena, why does she have a room in the Jungle? Is the Jungle room a Elvis Presley reference? So many questions
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Austin Rich:

↳ FoolishBandit @8:15
I have no idea if this is the actual answer, but I always assumed Sheena was a reference to this old comic book that I love:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
FoolishBandit:

Interesting
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Austin Rich:

As for the Jungle Room, the internet seems to think that Elvis had the first one, but I've listened to a lot of old radio shows, and I've heard characters in the 50's go to different hotels that had Jungle Rooms too, so I suspect that it was just a trend in those days, along with tiki music and velvet paintings.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Krys O.:

I'm guessing it had to do with combining the Ramones' song and cheesy Elvis kitsch. The Jungle Room was a name that some nightclubs appropriated in the late 50s/early 60s. The Populuxe post-WWII era.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Krys O. @8:20
I've wondered if the Ramones song was a reference to the Queen of The Jungle, but perhaps that's just because I like comics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm

See this opens up to some interesting lines of thought?!?

I do love that people are still mad about the hippies. Every generation the kids get annoyed with them, the reason being different from year to year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
FoolishBandit:

Hippies were just spoiled rich kids pretending to be poor
Avatar 8:27pm
Imaginos:

↳ FoolishBandit @8:25
If that is true it explains why they could afford to travel with Up With People
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm

I have no doubt there was actual hippies with that lifestyle. But most of them were rich kids wanting to be with the in style.

Mr Fab:

Yes, the phrase “Sheena‘s jungle room” encompassed references to the Ramones (and hence punk, garage rock), comics/pulp fiction (and yes Joey Ramone said he was inspired by the comic’s jungle queen), tiki, Elvis, sleazy old nightclubs and dive bars… all in three words. Station Manager Ken and I were brainstorming trying to come up with a way to alert listeners that this was an Internet stream free of FCC regulations, so we could get as kookoo bananas as we want.
