a constant! interestingly my suburb had a pirate radio station for 8yrs, tiny footprint. They mostly played reggae, old school hip hop, taped shows from same genre on London pirate radio etc. It was just nice to have on when driving and so on. This week, the licensing cops knocked on the door of the guy who ran it (who was til that point, anonymous to nearly everyone, a well kept and protected secret> and confiscated his gear. He said they were nice, and it seems they didn't fine him. Fines are SIGNIFICANT. but I already miss it.

I struggle with the "prude" thing too, Barno. I was raised by lesbians and I used to think there was nothing you could say / show me / play me that would shock me. I've seen some pretty wild experimental shows over the years.

But as I get older, I do struggle with the idea of what is and isn't appropriate in public. I used to swear a lot more than I do now, I used to listen to a lot more vulgar music. For the most part, I'm just looking for a lot more nuance.

Still, I don't mind a little profanity now and then. Why not? I'll let other people who are much poetically vulgar, do it right. I find I'm just not cut out for it, in an interesting way, anyway.

Having spent years riding the fine line between "sexual innuendo" on the radio and also listening to some of the crap that is on commercial radio that has plenty of what can be termed "sexual innuendo" easily, I find swearing to be refreshing on "internet radio" or whatever.

Screenwriters are taught to aim for each character to be easily discerned by the reader, so some cliches help readers make the distinction. I took an online course for "screen analysts" once.

I feel that the main challenge for screenwriters now is to write flawed characters that are actually interesting without offending someone.
