Evidently, Wendy Brown's introduction to the new translation of Capital is fairly dismissive of Marx's project, which perhaps makes her a post-Marxist, but I'd be inclined to proclaim her a less-than-ideal candidate to introduce the new translation.

Dean- I don't identify as Marxist. I like some of his ideas, reject others. I'm not post-anything either. I suppose to outsiders it needs explained. There are Communists and there are communists--of many varieties. For example, under most Marxist-Leninist regimes, most likely I would be repressed or kept in the shadows..

Our reception of Marx has been skewed, for obvious reasons. Everybody thinks of the Communist Manifesto, which is, uhm, a manifesto, and is one tiny sliver of his work compared to the scholarly stuff, Capital being a huge product of that effort. This is not a question of right or wrong, or taking sides, or believing this versus that. There are many solid reasons to disagree with Marx!

I also knew some ex-Yugoslav exchange students in the late '90s. They didn't like all the ethnic nationalisms, yet they also weren't Communists. But they were cosmopolitan.
