I didn't realize you'd lived in western NC. I grew up in SC, went to school in Davidson NC, and married a woman who grew up in Atlanta but whose dad had grown up around Waynesville NC and bucked danced on river boats during the depression. (No, we're not married any more but we're good friends.) But it was really in grad school in Bloomington IN that I got more deeply into old-time music.

OMG, Dawson is one of my heroes! I saw him solo in Kaustinen and again recently in Tampere, and twice with Finnish trance-prog band Circle. (Henki, by Circle and Dawson together, is just unbelievable)
