Oh, man. Well, the shows were *excellent*. Really wonderful stuff -- and really meaningful. Because of reasons of time, money, circumstance, I never thought I'd hear those songs live. It was great to be there for it.

We maybe could have managed the weekend a little different-- stayed only one night. The hotel was ... an experience. We didn't really understand what we were getting into with that! But whatever, we got a weekend away.

Took a flyer on a $30 five-CD changer, but it didn't work when I got it back here. Did get a few records at the store above the Music Hal, though. Jean Redpath, Darryl Hall and John Oates, Eurythhmics, and (best of all!) the Roches.

John Cooper Clarke was the male voice on that song. It appeared to be a parody of his tune "I married a monster from outer space." He is often called the port laureate of Salford. Made a number of records in the early 80s. Punk rock poet and writer. Still alive somehow. Survived a long running addiction.

We know the key to unity of all people
Is in the dream that you had so long ago
That lives in all of the hearts of people
That believe in unity
We'll make the dream become a reality
I know we will
Because our hearts tell us so
