A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:23am
Cecile:

  9:23am
Parq:

Whoa. This Pipi is really lovely.
  9:31am
Daniel:

My mineralogist dad would kill me if I didn't speak up.
  9:38am
haz:

Who is Jimmy? A Jimi impersonator?
  9:43am
trouble:

ouch! i will correct this cecile, merci.
  9:47am
Cecile:

PUM-is is probably correcter...
no problem.

And a big MERCI for playing Little Trouble Girl
  9:49am
haz:

Je vous en prie. Love the Jim/Little Trouble Girl combo BTW.
  9:50am
Drew:

Sick song here.
  9:52am
amanda.atx:

wow this is great.
  10:12am
dc pat:

whoa! is that the cd skipping or the 32k stream?
  10:12am
androo:

are we allowed to make requests in here?
  10:17am
jamesie:

I got this on Mercury label when I was a teen lout with dyed black hair and a Triumph Bonneville, danced to it at the Fish in Southgate in North London. There were a lot of Teds then in the early 70's just before we all wore donkey jackets and red vinyl tousers but we kept our brothel creepers! Sonny Curtis was played a lot there.
  10:17am
trouble:

requests are cool, if they firtin with the show, and you don't mind waiting til perhaps next week, depending on how much time I have to escape the studio and run and look for it, and IF we have it...
  10:19am
trouble:

i alerted the man in charge, but the 32 k stream prob could be on your end, no skipping cd's here.
  10:19am
Rococo Pagoda:

Cool daxophone playing from Reichel!
  10:19am
dc pat:

when exactly DID people in England start wearing creepers?
  10:20am
dc pat:

OK, in light of the problems yesterday I thought I'd mention it.
  10:22am
jamesie:

Brothel creepers were worn in the 50's when my mum would point at them and say "look at the Teddy Boys, James!" as we drove past in the Humber Hawk.
  10:24am
Cecile:

I might have to buy that vetiver record...
  10:26am
jonathan:

so mutantes! gracias.
  10:27am
jonathan:

i mean, os.
  10:28am
Bruce:

This song was sampled for another song, Monkeys on the Moon. Prefer the orginial. Thanks Trouble!
  10:29am
dc pat:

Definitely MY favorite kind of shoes.
  10:37am
dc pat:

so jamesie, who invented punk rock--England or the US?
  10:39am
Carmichael:

Trouble, you're mellowing my harshness ............
  10:42am
55 Fingers:

Toni Basil invented punk rock while she and Dennis Hopper were tripping on the set of 'Easy Rider.'
  10:44am
dc pat:

1 vote for the US
  10:48am
Swami:

I vote for Pangea as the iventor of Punk Rawk.
  10:49am
Swami:

Inventor. Iventor is a new HVAC system created by Apple.
  10:49am
Cecile:

Gondwanaland
  10:51am
m:

i swear they were saying "player piano" at first.
  10:51am
jamesie:

>so jamesie, who invented punk rock--England or the US?

you know we resonate across the water, togther. Sometimes its like ping-pong but back in 1974 if you were drinking in the Roebuck in the Kings Road with Jordan and all the other vinyl-wearers - you would be forgiven for thinking the Brits did - but where would we have been without the Ramones or the disgust and nausea of listening to Genesis. Rockabilly and Dub and donkey jackets and brothel creepers gave way to postcards of strange hairdos 4 years later.
  10:53am
dc pat:

hmm, nice answer. Most of the time when I poll the English about this age-old controversy, I get a butt-load of nationalism.
  11:02am
Carmichael:

My next band will be called The Brothel Creepers.
  11:10am
Parq:

Dusty Springfield did "Spooky"? Be still my heart.
  11:11am
sugarwolf:

I googled Zoe and the Stormies... I'm gonna have to start calling myself Zoitsa now....
  11:20am
Ronny Jotten:

According to Jeffrey Lewis, punk rock started in the Lower E. He makes a pretty convincing argument.
  11:23am
Bad Ronald:

What about Detroit?
  11:25am
Carmichael:

What about Pittsburgh PA .....
  11:26am
Carmichael:

Sorry, couldn't pass up the obvious "Life During Wartime" reference.
  11:27am
Bad Ronald:

OK, now I got it... draggin a bit today...
  11:28am
lucky:

punk rock was not "invented". it grew organically and rhizomatically in many places and many forms.

garage? psych? detroit 60's rock? free jazz? VU? glam? prog? CBGB's? roxy? the masque? the wilson center? who can say?

what's so special about first anyway? i would never trade my pistols records for PIL's metal box.

but that's just my point of view.....
  11:30am
Mark in Kansas:

Hey DJ, this is the most ____(insert currently popular superlative) show I have heard in ages. You are ____(insert hyperbolic gerund description of audio induced bliss) my experience. Thank you and keep up the good work.
  11:30am
Carmichael:

My next band will be called "The Rhizomatics".
  11:34am
dc pat:

"wilson center"?? you must be from dc..
  11:35am
lucky:

i'm from NJ.

hi James!
  11:36am
jamesie:

hey andrew I m from crummy chiswick
  11:38am
dc pat:

SING IT JEFFREY!!
  11:39am
lucky:

i can't think of "chiswick" without thinking of motorhead. i loved chiswick myself.

:-)

oh, i forgot krautrock...talk about punk!
  11:41am
amanda:

england steals all the credit, ha
  11:45am
dc pat:

the England vs US punk debate always breaks down into the roots of roots of roots. Personally, I think it all started w/ Charlie Patton and Howlin Wolf.. but I was really just trying to start an argument...Griel Marcus thinks it started w/ eschatological movements of the middle ages.
  11:47am
Cecile:

but then again Marcus writes off the NY punk bands as "just local bands" if he's ever asked about US contributions to punk.
  11:53am
Doug:

Is this your Tony Coulter impression then?
  11:54am
Matt:

I always wondered why people respect Marcus so much.......I mean, he's no Byron Coley!
  11:56am
lucky:

i'm not a huge marcus fan, but maybe "just local bands" is a good thing. one's personal interpratation of the music is perhaps more important than some monothesistic history handed down from above.

i agree marcus is slagging when he writes that...i wonder if he thought that was the most inflamatory thing he could say. very talk radio.

hip-hip-hooray for wolf and patton, but i have never heard the middle ages. do they have something out on CD?
  11:57am
Bad Ronald:

Joseph Pujol invented Punk
  12:00pm
dc pat:

mm, but what we're talking about is a history that has grown by itself and was mostly ignored from above. That's what makes it interesting to me.
  1:19pm
florian:

oh dj trouble, this one is so wonderful. thank you
  7:49am
Lenny:

Trouble would you please play "Piano Fire" by Sparklehorse
