	12:24pm Parq: On Bette Midler's "Songs for the New Depression" album, there is a cover of "Shiver Me Timbers" by Waits that seques into a song in French called Samedi et Vendredi, in which "la la la" is repeated. Bette also has a song called "You're Moving Out Today", a studio cut included as a bonus track on "Live At Last", which ends in an elaborate "la la la" bit.

	1:39pm Cecile: Beaver Falls is depressing, but it has good Italian home cooking and also the most amazing donut shop whose name escapes me.

	1:43pm dc pat: It's a nice place and they really want to be a real city but when you sit down to look in the paper to see what to do on Saturday night , and there's....NOTHING TO DO, it's pretty sad...so you go to Chief's cafe and get dollar shots...
	1:47pm Carmichael: I was going to ask about restaurants, but Scott said NO FOOD TALK. So I won't.
	1:47pm annie: my friend from there were in the biker crowd, so they just stayed home and did drugs.. both are now dead... RIP, leaving 2 kids behind. i see that both have left that city too..
	1:50pm dc pat: I'm not a huge fan of DC either but at least there's always something going on... I can't remember eating any food in PGH
	1:53pm dc pat: However, the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern has great beer and I saw the Cynics with the New Bomb Turks there and it was heaven.
	1:55pm annie: i was talking w/a young quaker friend on xmas break and she told me that the obamas changed their minds, the girls are going to sidwell.
	1:55pm Scott: I love Pittsburgh. I hated it before I ever went there, but that's because I saw that Tom Cruise movie about football and just figured... but yeah, that's there too. Lotta depressing, but i had the best fucking waffle ever; and beer and record shopping can keep you busy for a long time. Don't ever go there on Steelers game day though.

	1:59pm annie: dcp, there was a great used book store in kensington back behind conn ave; i lived there, practically, and my son was dragged there...good thing he liked to read.
	1:59pm Cecile: i have yet to go record shopping in PGH, but that's not for lack of trying. I gotta do that next time.
	2:03pm Parq: Never been to PBG, always been curious about it. T'aint nothing like NYC, see, but there a lot of cities with stuff to recommend them. I never thought I'd dig Seattle, e.g., but I had a blast.
	2:03pm Scott: But it's cheap and there's some amazing and crazy houses. What's with all those houses built on top of retail outlets in Squirrel Hill??
	2:04pm Cecile: remember the version of temptation on the muppet show done by the chickens? Oh, push came to shove, I could make a go of it there, but the transit would have to get a lot better.
	2:06pm Parq: Actually, 'Cile, your own twin cities are on my short-list of American cities I really want to check out.

	2:08pm dc pat: To sum up: PGH = great waffles, beer, records, used books, Squirrel Hill, the Cynics, Andy Warhol Museum, cheap. PGH not= good transit, good career, avoid professional sports, happily ever-after...
	2:10pm Cecile: dc pat, also Italain wedding soup and salads with fries on them. Parq, it is a good place to live. It has its charms and disappointments like anywhere.
	2:11pm Cecile: and the National Aviary if you like birds. I like birds.

	2:14pm Scott: Also on the Pbgh Pro tip: not far from the aviary is the Mattress Factory, with some fab permanent light installations. Also the view from atop (and within) the Cathedral of Learning. And weren't the Tammys from there?? Carmichael, thanks!! I guess I should have asked also: why? Jonathan Steinke, you oughtta drop Joe McGasko a line - you can do so via his playlists. Indeed, an amazing comp he put together.
	2:15pm dc pat: it's funny Cecile, when I lived there, NO body talked about anything with fries on it--salad, hoagies, what ever. Now that I've left, that's all I hear... there are some fine Mid Eastern and Indian restaurants there. JEEZUS, I'm done talkin' about PGH!!!

	2:39pm Scott: Only been to the Church Brewworks - great saison the night I was there! I bought a glass, a growler, and a tripel. The glass was smithereens in a matter of days.

	2:42pm Parq: Sigh. Pat, I spent a few years in H'burg in the summer of '81. If only they'd had something like ABC in those days. Is it in town, or out at one of the malls?
	2:44pm Lizardner Dave: Been to the Church Brew Works twice, thought the beer was pretty standard brew pub fare (that's not a bad thing..) but thought the food was far above average compared to lots of other brewpubs I've been to.
	2:45pm dc pat: Jeeze I grew up in Mechanicsburg across the river. I was in high school in 81. It's on Cameron street right in Harrisburg. Appalachian Brewing Company.

	2:46pm Scott: HI Lizardner Dave - i'd actually say the opposite, thought the grub was pretty standard, as far as brewpubs go. Good, but not great. That saison was fabulous, and also made for a great mussels recipe a few days later.
