Listener comments!

  11:03pm
Laurie:

Oh, hey Eric "Fun" Davis.
  11:07pm
slouchy:

Oh here is the April Wine. Yeesh.
  11:07pm
Geddy:

All Canuk opener, eh?
  11:09pm
claire:

loving the track
  11:11pm
Greg Lief:

Never heard of April Wine, but "Sheila" is terrific!
  11:11pm
sabrina lane:

how was everybodys summer?? great i hope,,evan please play more 70s tunes 2nite,
  11:11pm
john:

Hmm, a non-Canadian, though Thunder Island could be an awfully Canuck-sounding place name.
  11:14pm
efd:

oh boy Greg, you might be about to come in for some (good-natured) abuse! NIce to see you!

Geddy, the all-canuck opening [two songs] was purely coincidence, I assure you.
  11:17pm
sabrina lane:

efd,,i hope you had one hell of a summer cause i sure did,,,
  11:18pm
Greg Lief:

HA! I don't mind abuse... it won't be the first time. "Chokin'" is cool... I would have sworn that was vintage mid-60s R&B.
  11:20pm
efd:

hi Laurie! In Martha's defense let me just say that you can't spell "funk" without "fun."
Claire, not sure now which track you were loving but I'm glad that you were!
Sabrina, welcome back. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're the latest incarnation of Toni Daytona/Cheri/Rachel/etc.
  11:21pm
Brian:

Ack! We just tuned in, missing a double-shot of primo CanCon!
  11:22pm
claire:

I loved "sheila"
never heard of the band either but the song was awesome.
  11:24pm
Joe:

I think the only proper response to this track is a prolonged, heartfelt "LOL WUT?"
  11:25pm
efd:

clearly I have a distorted sense of April Wine's popularity among the WFMU listenership.... thanks in no small part to you, Brian, I'm sure! I might have to play more Guess Who, that song didn't really scratch the itch properly.
Hey, it's Joe! Hi Joe! and hi John!
  11:25pm
slouchy:

Yep.
  11:25pm
dumbstruck:

April Wine in 2006? and it didn't suck? when did they get good? they were kind of a joke in the 80s.
  11:28pm
Geddy:

Two EFD listeners who do not know how April Wine likes to rock (journey to the stars, etc.)? The legendary EFD April Wine Quotient needs a little stimulus package, methinks.
  11:29pm
Laurie:

Ooh yeah, Outrageous Cherry!!!!!!!!!
  11:31pm
sabrina lane:

evan--could you please play my ultimate fave burton cummings tune "STAND TALL", thank you evan.
  11:32pm
Brian:

This is at least the second time EFD has played some good April Wine of recent vintage -- the other was "I am, I am, I am", that one forced me to reevaluate them. And when they last came through Vancouver, they played a real nightclub, not the casino like Loverboy does...

And of course Evan, you are playing the Guess Who on every mic break (took me a while to realize it was via Lordz of Brooklyn)...
  11:35pm
Joe:

you should've -asked-
  11:43pm
Joe:

Perhaps a segue into "Little Green Bag?"
  11:44pm
Laurie:

Miami's finest.
  11:44pm
Joe:

Nevermind, this is infinitely better.
  11:46pm
efd:

could've worked at *45* too, i guess
  11:51pm
Lang:

The Upper Crust love The Young brothers...and so do I
  11:51pm
sabrina lane:

efd will you please play that cewl burton cummings tune for me 2nite?? ty ever soo much,,
  11:54pm
efd:

sorry Sabrina, no solo Burt C tonight. But I do like that song also.

Lang, you are 100% correct!
  11:56pm
Lang:

"During the recording of Trippin' with Howlies, Fowley required that everyone involved eat nothing but junk food, insisting that 'if you start eating sushi it won't be rock'n'roll.' "
  11:57pm
Joe:

GOOD MAN, Davies. I was worried my constant hyping of this band was getting annoying.

Lang that is awesome where did you get that from.
  11:58pm
Lang:

If I tell you, you'll make fun of me
  11:58pm
Lang:

Ok, it was from Spin
  12:00am
Joe:

Its okay, I'm not too cool for Spin. Well, I mean, I totally am, but, it's still cool.

I am not too cool to actually be wearing my newly aquired Howlies t-shirt at the moment.

PS - go see the Howlies. Do it. -DO IT-
  12:02am
Lang:

Well, they and Mr Fowley ( as gross as he can be) make a good point. Sushi does not a good rock and roll make. More like tequila and cheeseburgers
  12:06am
Joe:

Fat sandwiches and Pabst Blue Ribbon
  12:06am
Laurie:

Dave Hill, of King of Miami fame.
  12:17am
efd:

Joe, I should have given you an on-air hat-tip for turning me on to the Howlies... but I didn't. Lang, thanks for the KF quote!
  12:25am
yorgi:

that song in the back is jammin hard yo.got my sour pickle face on
  12:29am
Laurie:

Michigan Cherry Queen.
  12:29am
efd:

finally, an episode of The "In" Sound with a message for the girls!
  12:30am
efd:

yorgi, I'm going to go ahead and assume that the sour pickle face is a good thing.
  12:33am
Joe:

Unnecessary Evan, but there's always next time - I do hope you're down with the whole record, even though Smoke is definitely the track that fits best with your show. I hope you watched the whole video for Aluminum Baseball Bat - it's a total scream.

Man... how bout those Righteous Brothers.
  1:00am
Danne D:

Hey there Funk Friends :) Hey EFD, got in the car right as the Harry Harrison was starting - you were right it surely did not disappoint and was one of the best ones yet!
  1:02am
Spoony:

There we go!
  1:02am
randy in NC:

Ah, the Bare Wires fix...
  1:03am
efd:

man, you guys were really waiting!
  1:04am
Danne D:

LOL Evan, if only that was what they used for the emergency broadcasting system it might actually get paid attention to :)
  1:04am
Danne D:

(the emergency broadcasting system that is)
  1:14am
efd:

hey Danne! glad you picked up on my EAS reference. (and that you enjoyed tonight's installment of the "in" sound)
  1:16am
Danne D:

My bad, the Emergency Alert System. Showing my age :)
  1:18am
Joe:

Oh man, Alan Parsons Project was one of those prog-rock bands I used to totally bash on when I was a teenage punk rocker.

Now you gotta go make me look all stupid.
  1:22am
efd:

you'll just have to bash them more selectively *koff*eyeinthesky"*koff*
  1:24am
Danne D:

I yam the i in the sky lookin at yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  1:25am
Danne D:

oops didn't mean to do that to the margins. Clearly the Alan Parsons vibe cannot be contained by mere chat boxes!
  1:27am
efd:

there you go coloring outside the lines again, Danne.
  1:27am
claire:

your smooth music is really helping soothe some anger
thanks!
  1:28am
Joe:

I am getting hipper all the time. Anytime you can say "I like <band> except for <album>" you are instantly mad hipper than you were before.

PS this sounds like the Beta Band
  1:31am
efd:

Claire, glad I can help - although I should forewarn you that the music is going to get a little rougher in the next set.
Joe - the inverse also applies ("I can't stand <band> except for <album>").
  1:32am
Danne D:

Hope things get happier for you soon Claire! :)
  1:34am
Laurie:

You Can't Hide Your Love Forever? I'm assuming that's a reference to Comet Gain??
  1:37am
Danne D:

Hrm, looking at that twitpic it looks more like "Tales that involved a high school book report for me"
  1:39am
Adrian H.:

Awesome show tonight EFD. Not sure if you're doing songs on-the-fly, but the news just broke that Ted Kennedy passed - can you do an impromptu dedication?
  1:39am
Danne D:

:(
  1:40am
Joe:

This just in

Ted Kennedy is dead
  1:43am
efd:

aw man, that sucks. thanks Joe & Adrian for the update; not sure if i can think of anything appropriate off the top of my head, though.

and nobody better say The Dead Kennedys.
  1:45am
Joe:

Massachusetts

Uber Alles

Massachusetts Uuuber Alles
  1:45am
Joe:

You know what, I'm a bad person.
  1:50am
Joe:

I take it back, YOU'RE a bad person. Yeeeeesh.
  1:51am
efd:

let's just say we're both imperfect people.

i just thought of another one, though.
  1:52am
Adrian H.:

Daaaaaaamn. But, let's just chalk that up to a game-time decision.
  1:53am
Spoony:

That's awful.

Growing up in an Irish family, I was taught to REVERE them. Everyone in school was named Bobby or Robby. Only one Ted though.
  1:53am
Danne D:

Rush's new bumper music?

Ah, much better, Evan with the Lion Sleeps Tonight.
  1:53am
efd:

this is better, right? the lion of the senate....?

ok, so much for extemporaneous tribute attempts.
  1:54am
Joe:

I WAS JUST GONNA SUGGEST THIS.
  1:54am
Joe:

But the Tokens version, from The Sandlot. Not this super cool version.
  1:57am
Adrian H.:

Yeah, this works. Good comeback, considering the circumstances -- it's not like radio can be like newspapers and have tributes ready in advance.
  1:58am
Joe:

Well, they could, theoretically. Evan Davies loses points for not covering his bases! MAD POINTS.

Great show, and goodnight
  1:59am
Danne D:

A sincere mistake holds no dishonor Evan, s'ok.

It's those out there who will post vile hateful things on message boards that I have scorn for.

I remember when he first fell ill and FoxNews had already taken to talk about him in the past tense - now that was infuriating.

We surely aren't perfect. It reminds me of a story my brother told me. He cashiered the soda vendors at the meadowlands. Anyhow he gives change to one of the vendors and it falls on the floor. My brother says: "What do you have a hole in your hand" and which time the vendor holds up his hand to show that he is missing 2 fingers in the middle of his hand.

And with that I bid good night Evan, and good night Funk Faithful and most of all RIP Senator Kennedy!
