A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Good morning from France Trouble (and happy new year !).
What a "black" december for music lovers with Jack Rose,Vic Chesnutt,Roland S. Howard and Lhasa's deaths .But their music will still live for a longtime.
  9:22am
james:

RIP Lhasa
  9:27am
laska:

hi from London, fantastic tune from Lhasa
  9:32am
?:

Lhasa had quite a unique voice.Reminds me a little of some female "broken" voices as Jeanne Lee or Nina Simone's ones.
  9:35am
stu:

Hi Trouble,
Cold and dark ( with a snowstorm ) outside this afternoon, but your music and spirit keeps us warm !
  9:40am

...dont feel lonely/when you look up into great night...
  9:43am
PKNY:

That Lhasa track you played was beautiful. I had not hear of her before today, but I thought how the vibe fit this cold, dark time of year...and then heard she recently passed, so sad.

Trouble, thanks for the music and words. It's semi-comforting to know I'm not the only one who struggles through this time of year.
  9:44am
nasok:

sounds like the robot maid quit that job and joined a band!
  9:46am
seang:

Hi Trouble, always liked the description of your show--its a great prose poem-"...as soul hits"
  9:52am

Nice to hear some Lhasa mixed in, today, Trouble. Sad news, her passing..
  10:05am

Good morning all!

Sad to hear about Willie Mitchell.
  10:16am
Staceyjoy:

Listening to your show drinking strong coffee, life is good!
  10:18am
Stu:

It's so funny when you play something Finnish and it takes me a minute and then I figure it out! This music sounds so Spanish ( Mika Ratto ) Paavo tells me title means : " a cold wind on a flat plain or field " too appropriate! No mistaking Brigitte Note to Cecile : it's still at the 1964 World's Fair
  10:25am
trouble:

hey stacey! i am just looking at your picture in pulsallama, from the fab girl monster cd! how is red lipstick today in red hook?
  10:26am
dc apt:

thanks for the info troubs..
  10:32am

  10:48am

OK I will call the Senator
  10:49am
Cecile:

Glenn Beck creeps me out so much, regardless of his political leanings. He is just very creepy.
  10:50am
stingy d:

hey toruble! hey wfmu!!! you know norma tanega? i just found this chick! it's poppin!
  10:50am
Jeff:

trouble, you can contact Sen. Nick Sacco (pronounced SACK-o) at his office in nearby North Bergen: (201) 295-0200.
  10:52am
hibbleton:

When I needed help from Nick Sacco, I was told to buy a ticket to his next fundraising dinner (I think it was $500, iirc).
  10:52am
dc apt:

Beck, like Rush Limbaugh and all the other right wing dickheads, is just doing what he's paid to do. I have a feeling these guys don't even believe half of what they're saying because it's too crazy. They're just keeping their jobs........or maybe they're just nuts..
  10:52am
a native new jerseyian:

Sen Sacco's local number is (201) 295-0200. Perhaps we are getting a non affiliated NJ State Senate worker at the 609 number. In any event calling the 201 number may be more effective at any or all of OUR goals!
  10:55am
trouble:

thanks everybody for the sacco update. but can i still mispronounce his name, like sock it to you?
  10:56am
jeff:

As a former NJ Senate staffer, e-mail is actually more effective than phone calling. Sen. Sacco's e-mail address is sensacco@njleg.org. Be polite but insistent. And as for your mispronunciation, we Jerseyans will just dismiss you as another clueless New Yorker ;-)
  10:57am
Carmichael:

Good morning Trouble and frozen political activists. There's a tribute to Vic Chesnutt (sp) on NPR today. They archive their stuff on their website, too.
  10:59am
Chris:

@dcapt - your right about rush - i saw an interview with him once and he suggested rhetoric was more important than truth.
  10:59am
native:

the 201 number is not taking messages at this time as "this mailbox is full". did anyone get through?

gee, I pronounce his name neither "sack-o" or "sock-o". but in the interest of keeping the discussion family friendly I will not go into my phonetic particulars.
  11:01am
seang:

my faculties are on a shoe string vacation--Vic Chesnutt wrote the best lyrics
  11:02am
Carmichael:

Sorry to have missed the discussion. Sitting here in Northern California, I have no knowledge of NJ/NY polotics. What did the bastards do this time??
  11:05am
Carmichael:

"politics"
  11:08am
senator:

nicolas say-so
  11:09am
v k:

once worked in U.S. Senate (Fred Thomson, R-TN) - in my experience, calls/letters to congress rarely make a difference
  11:10am
dickless sackhole:

hard on politics
  11:10am
chris:

call and say. "hey socco is your vanzetti running..."
  11:11am
stingy d:

chris, again with the beach volleyball jokes??
  11:22am
north guinea hills:

i love the video for this bat for lashes song.....
  11:23am
trouble:

  11:24am
TC:

Oh cool, I love the Monkeywrench version of Sugar Man.
  11:31am
Adrian in London:

England have just battled to an excruciatingly tense draw against SA (in cricket). WHile my blood pressure comes down you now have my full undivided attention.
  11:35am
listener mark:

tack så mycket, DJ trouble!
  11:35am
trouble:

i need to make an effort to seek out some live cricket. what is the season over here? i know they have some west indian teams that play in Jersey city somewhere...
  11:38am
Ken:

Meet you at the water cooler when you get off the air to discuss Betty and Don and Sal and Roger and Joanie.
  11:39am
?:

You played Lorna? How much do I love you...A LOT!
I discovered her music while visiting Goa and have never met another American who had heard of her!
  11:41am
Stacey:

Late for work today, because I can't turn the radio off! I have missed this show bigtime, it comes in crystal clear now. Happy New Year!
  11:42am
55rpm:

Peggy didn't realize she was pregnant? Great to see Robert Morse in anything once again. How far into it are you?
  11:43am
trouble:

great to hear stacey!
  11:43am
motherboy:

is mad men any good? its lack of serial killers, bikers and space ships has kept me from renting the dvds.
  11:44am
dc apt:

Yeah, I thought the Peggy=pregnant thing was a bit believable but overall I think it's a pretty ok show. I like the suits.
  11:45am
dc apt:

UNbelievable dammit.
  11:47am
trouble:

i can't say enough about the crazy interweaving of the stories. the development of the female characters is very welcome and telling of the stranglehold women were in back then. gorgeous. I just finished season one, and can't wait to keep on keepin on...
  11:50am
55rpm:

Season 2 gets better, they start the tv dept. Nice Hanshaw cut.
  11:51am
dc pat:

..not to mention gay-issues
  11:52am
dc apt:

I have to admit I watch ZERO television and my spouse got me all caught up in this show...dangit.
  11:53am
basbooks:

I love Mad Men. Trouble, I also can only view it on DVD, so glad to hear you discussing it.
  11:53am
trouble:

yes you are so right dc pat! considering this show is set in "the good old days" as the right wrong would call it, the issues of sexuality are out there. I would like to see a bit more about race and religion, that has been tidied up and not dealt with yet...
  11:54am
Chris:

i watch "good" tv only when it comes out on dvd too - no cable - and it is frustrating...i have to tell folks not to give away things.
  11:55am
mysterio:

trouble! who's version of i guess it doesn't matter anymore was that? i didnt see it on the playlist. ps the thursday line up - trouble/scott/fabio - wins all contests in all divisions and categories.
  11:55am
dc apt:

that micachu group is pretty fekkin cool. I dug the orig version of lips just now.
  11:59am
Francis:

Marie et les garçons,a cult late 70s french band from Lyon !
