A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I hope you're all feeling healthy today.
  9:45am

  9:55am
Cecile:

YES
  9:57am
still b/p:

If we can adopt another shorthand category (like GNFAB), I'd say PAMF about that beto villa track -- Play At My Funeral.
  9:57am
Brian:

Checking in from Madison.
  9:58am
trouble:

dale:

good morning from the hudson valley! the titmice, juncos, finches and occasional cardinal say good morning, too.
  9:59am
Cecile:

I am starting to really love the Mos Def. Good actor, even better rapper.
  10:00am
Charcutero:

Good Morning Y'all. Thanks for the Mos Def!
  10:02am
still b/p:

That Mos' Def sounds like it could mash mos' directly with the Black Eyed Peas/Mendes version of Mas Que Nada.
  10:03am
Brian:

Life begins at 30. No lie.
(Not to say it doesn't end soon thereafter ...)
  10:03am
BSI:

OKAY, so I've been listening for a couple of minutes but hadn't checked into the comments until now. What's all this about 30 year olds bitchin' about being old? HAH? Speak up! What?!?!?
  10:04am
annie:

morning everyone.. life begins again at 50..
  10:04am
Cecile:

I have the simplest, stupidest cell phone possible.
And an iPod Touch. It's better that way. And cheaper.
  10:04am
BSI:

(full disclosure, 42 in august)
  10:04am
Brian:

Don't even get us started about that silly iSlab.
  10:05am
annie:

bsi- i been listening since 9 and i had to log in too to see what the story was.. and yes, closing in on 57, here
  10:05am
Cecile:

I'm holding you to that Annie. I only have a year or so.

Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble.
  10:06am
fed up:

and it's totally OK to bomb the hell out of civilians in Afganistan and Iraq
  10:06am
Ne-guh-tor:

Hear that owl?
  10:06am
55ffrr:

trouble at the pulpit
  10:06am
annie:

trouble, i totally concur.. totally.. and a culture of ADD-afflicted population..
  10:07am
SueA:

it's not the internet really, it just makes the whining seem louder.
  10:07am
Brian:

@55ffrr : Why they call her Trouble. Why we look for Trouble.
  10:07am
dc pat:

right on Troub!! fuckin breeders!!!
  10:08am
Cecile:

Hey, I have ADD, and I come off as laser-focused compared to some people.

And yet, we are on the Internet complaining.

SueA - this is the right answer. People have always been ridiculously petty - you just didn't have to hear it all the time.

Why the hating on the Breeders? I like Kim Deal. ;)
  10:08am
dc pat:

hey commenters, wanna see some great pics of my kids building a snowman??
  10:09am
Adrian in London:

Better late than never. My, you're all looking young today!
  10:09am
J-Mar:

Bill Dixon -- NICE!
  10:09am
Charcutero:

This Monkey's gone to heaven...
  10:10am
CGS:

what about people who complain about people who complain about small things?

and everyone knows 40 yrs is the real death sentence
  10:11am
drunk right now:

Who would want to complain about anything when Bill Dixon is on?
  10:11am
Brian:

Some breeders take comfort in the "strength through failure" saying. It's so ennobling to try and fail.
  10:12am
north guinea hills:

Wow, I really love this bill dixon!
  10:12am
Cecile:

@dcp, YES.
  10:14am
dc pat:

ah, sorry Cecile, I was just trying to be funny...don't have any on me at the moment but they DID build a great snowperson yesterday. We're going to build a giant freakin fort this weekend...
  10:18am
Parq:

Pat, I am disappointed. I too would have loved to see those pictures. In NYC, we aren't getting any of this snow, which suits me fine.
  10:18am
BSI:

DC Pat, I'd kill for some positive connotations re: snow. This apocalypse we're expecting fri/sat is very poorly timed indeed. If we're all still alive under the snow, come to Marx Cafe friday night, BSI=guest DJ. .. will attempt to build a land-bridge between Nina Hagen, Bad Brains, and Amon Duul within four moves.
  10:19am
BSI:

...sorry, that's three moves.
  10:20am
J-Mar:

Just dug out of the snow here in Nashville. It takes forever to get the roads cleared here.
  10:21am
TC:

They just need to keep the above-ground Metro service open and all will be well. Maybe the snowpocalypse won't be so bad.
  10:21am
CGS:

...the apocalypse better not happen...at least not untill i get to see season 3 of mad men on dvd.
  10:24am
dc pat:

totally BSI--we're going to be buried for a week. But I grew up in OH and PA and dig the snow...especially with kids. I'd like to hear yer gig but I'm not promising anything at this point.
  10:24am
annie:

ahhh, being a child in the snow, snow forts, snow men snowball fights.. we built this amazing snow tunnel thing; each kid has his/her own little hole.... and the telephone tunnels between the holes.. we learned that snow insulates sound.. had to shout to be heard
  10:25am
dc pat:

yeah annie! we did something like that in Cleveland. Ice skated on the streets once too.
  10:27am
dc pat:

on the bad side, can't count how many times I had to get to a gig in a blizzard, set up and play to 2 people, then try to make it home. So I hear you BSI.
  10:27am
Cecile:

We used to rids our sleds down this big hill seven blocks to the lake before the plows came out. It was like a 70 degree angle. Wicked.
  10:29am
BSI:

DCP: at least I'm walking distance to Marx. But Saturday is gig at Velvet Lounge with Kohoutek etc, which promises to be more of an effort if we've got nine godzillion feet of snow... deep breath, swig o' irish central heating...
  10:30am
annie:

at our farm in greenlawn, we had the sledding hill.. it had this bump you hit before you hit the "flat" bit.. wicked.. way wicked!
  10:32am
Carmichael:

Top o' the mornin' Trouble and all trekkies out there.
  10:33am
Cecile:

Did you ever bite your tongue when you hit a bump, annie? I did once or twice. Yow!
  10:33am
Parq:

Underwater Theme Park is collecting great bass lines. This Woulnded Lion definitely belongs on the list.
  10:34am
BSI:

not familiar with Wounded Lion... any relation to Pressurehed? Something in the vox & bass, could be just me...
  10:34am
dc pat:

you could probably ride a sled from Mt. Pleasant down to the Velvet...or close anyway
  10:35am
dc pat:

this wounded lion cover is one of my fave tunes right now.
  10:36am
thomas:

no i am watching numbers and graphs
  10:36am
CGS:

hey BSI check out WL pony people on youtube - great song - of course, after Ts show
  10:36am
Anon:

Hazarding a criticism: that was not a particularly imaginative version of Bad Moon Rising.
  10:36am
annie:

oh, god, yes cecile... what a shocker!
  10:39am
Listener Stu:

Hi Trouble!

Greetings from the snowy north....we're very open here too! Yes, gots keep focused on the big things! wonderful sounds ! S
  10:40am
Brian:

That would be Agnès, as in "ahn-yes." It's a nice name.
  10:41am
nasok:

more big star reissues! much like the endless parade of gram parsons reissues, i just can't get enough.
  10:42am
em:

this chris bell is a fabulous soundtrack for crunching data at the computer. the head is definitely bopping. thanks trouble!
  10:46am
CGS:

there should be a 1 year moratorium on all cool re-issues...or at least until i can catch up on all the new music i want to get.
  10:47am
dale:

trouble, do you have johnny halliday's 'reve et amour'? i'll try to zip you a copy if not.
  10:48am
trouble:

no dale i don't. and i think you just sent me something that i haven't even opened...yikes i am behind. thanks!
  10:53am
dc pat:

Anon: yer right, it was a totally bitchin version of Bad Moon..
  10:57am
coelacanth:

that last cover was pretty hot. ..though it kinda makes me wanna hear Amanda (Irwin's girlfren)
  11:04am
Brian:

Can anyone ID that bird with the descending whistle?
  11:08am
Jennique:

Michel Polnareff

French~slur~schmaltz.

Lurv it!
  11:08am
Cecile:

Hey, Trouble, what's your favorite popcorn movie? I asked Fabio, and he had some cool, surprising choices.
  11:09am
v k:

Army of Shadows - just added to my Netflix queue - Trouble - i officially outsource my movie and music preferences to u
  11:09am
Adrian in London:

Army of Shadows is great. Have you seen that remake of Grey Gardens? I couldn't bring myself to watch it.
  11:13am
?:

"kamasutra: vollendung der liebe" is my favorite movie
  11:14am
Cecile:

The only remade documentary I liked was Lords of Dogtown.
  11:14am
55ffrr:

Excellent recommendation. Christian McKay ('Me & Orson Welles') and Marvin Hamlisch ('The Informant! score) snubbed for oscar noms. Foul!
  11:15am
dale:

i just watched rollerball - not what i expected. i've gone though all the herzog blockbuster offers. have you ever seen 'pandora's box' (pabst, i think)? incredible.
  11:17am
Cecile:

I'm talking mindless, silly movies that you own, and still watch whenever they show up on cable...
  11:18am
BSI:

I'll second Pandora's Box like crazy (or, hell, any Louise Brooks) but Pandora's Box is phenomenal. The Criterion box was really well done.
  11:18am
Sauro:

Whew. This reminds me of hearing Can for the first time. Thanks.....
  11:19am
BSI:

ah, well Pandora's Box may not work for that purpose, Cecile... but still a great one.
  11:20am
CGS:

ive been suckered into independence day a few times and hellboy is always great when it shows up on a saturday morning...
  11:20am
annie:

is that 1929 version? i just found it on youtube.. i was wondering what movie to watch..
  11:21am
Cecile:

CGS, I love Hellboy. Independence Day is a'ight.
  11:23am
?:

Did I hear that Beck produced this Charlotte G record? Sure sounds like it . . .
  11:23am
v k:

yes Beck produced - good NYT Sunday Arts write-up two weeks ago
  11:24am
dc pat:

oh so THIS is the Charlotte everyone's talking about. pretty cool.
  11:24am
CGS:

independence day is horrible but i usually wind up watching it for at least a half hour before i realize it - every time.
  11:25am
Cecile:

I know! It's like how I got suckered into watching one whole hour of The Prestige. Never again!
  11:25am
dale:

louise brooks is in it. and did you ever notice that the math question never requires you to carry over a one?
  11:27am
Cecile:

dale, that would mean no listeners would ever be able to comment. ;)
  11:27am
Adrian in London:

For mindless movies I liked Mr and Mrs Smith. Oh the Prestige stank so much I had to open the windows when it finished. And that film with catherine Zeta Jones about Houdini. That got sent back within 20 minutes.
  11:27am
BSI:

DIARY OF A LOST GIRL is the other great Pabst/Brooks film. Also very good. But then I'd happily watch a nine hour refrigerator commercial if Louise Brooks was in it.
  11:28am
trouble:

(very embarassing) the pride and prejudice w/ colin firth. I could watch jane austen until the cows come home... " woman on the verge.. by almodovar.
  11:29am
CGS:

speaking of bad P movies that show up on cable - the peacemaker - oh, stinksville
  11:30am
fishmonkeystew:

If you're up for a mega cheesy 50's monster film, Them! is a hoot. The wife and I watched it again last night. It's good for a few giggles.
  11:31am
Cecile:

I love that Pride and Prejudice.
My favorite is the part with the giant floating Mr. Darcy head. It's so corny, it's awesome.

And I have a fondness for the trashiness that is the Birdcage. One of the few movies I like Robin Williams in.
  11:34am
dc pat:

fishmonkstew: man we LOVED that movie when we were kids. It's scary as hell when you're 9...and in the 70's...
  11:35am
k.rex:

was The Prestige that bad? I sort of enjoyed it. Public Enemies with Johnny Depp was kind of a stinker.
  11:35am
dale:

i love THEM! poor james whitmore gets chomped in half at the end. but marshall matt dillon gets the scientists daughter. perfect ending.
  11:38am
annie:

cecile, he was spectacular in that!!
  11:38am
DJ Sonny Bitch:

Hey Trouble. It's Alice Cooper's birthday today! 62yrs. young. Let Scott know too. Tanx.
  11:40am
55ffrr:

I came across a dvd of 'Meteor' (sci-fi ch., 2008) which is shockingly cheesy-bad/good. Jason Alexander plays a scientist.
  11:40am
Cecile:

I know! Both funny and likeable.
And the dinner table scene. I die from the funny every single time.

Happy Birthday Alice!
  11:41am
Cecile:

I'm currently watching 15 minutes of a time of RuPaul's Starrbooty. It's unintentionally and intentionally terrible. I can't explain. But it's really stupid and funny.
  11:42am
doug in dc:

I have the album this came from, the wonderful Obsolete. As soon as I heard the dog imitation I recognized it.
  11:42am
dc pat:

what is it with Johnny Depp? I want to like him but he's never in any decent films EXCEPT Ed Wood which ruled. He's obviously a pretty good actor.
  11:43am
Charcutero:

The XX! who wants to make out? ;-)
  11:44am
Jennique:

Trouble, I want to thank you for playing XX last week. I've already downloaded all their songs and this one definitely is one of my faves.
  11:46am
Cecile:

I liked him as the voice of Victor in the Corpse Bride.
  11:46am
CGS:

all the xx songs ive heard sound like covers of wicked games
  11:46am
Carmichael:

Pat, have you seen Dead Man? I thought he did a great job there. The bizarre script paired with a very creepy Neil Young guitar soundtrack made it for me.
  11:47am
trouble:

i love dead man!!
  11:47am
annie:

dead man was incredible.. i've tried to turn people on to that.. but not alot of takers..
  11:47am
anders krogdal:

Hey guys I'm listening from Denmark, the signal is crystal clear. Its kinda weird to think that all what we hear has been traveling as numbers in the binary alphabet. Nice eh!?
  11:48am
dc pat:

Carm: ah yes, forgot about that one....I guess he has been in good films but just don't get the tendency to be in campy sort of films. Not that I don't like to watch pirates fighting skeletons but...come on...
  11:49am
Jennique:

Just watched Burn After Reading and have a renewed admiration for John Malkovich. His diatribe against "the league of morons" is wonderful.
  11:49am
north guinea hills:

Dead Man is amazing, and Neil Young's soundtrack is phenomenal.
  11:50am
fishmonkeystew:

Ya know, Annie, I thought dead man was awesome. Of course, I'm a big Jim Jarmusch fan.
  11:50am
55ffrr:

Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' looks to be impressive.
  11:51am
Jt:

Dead Man is a masterpiece. it only suffered from poor distribution by the lame studio. See it in a theater, see it alone, miles from home, see it when you are at the end of your rope....
  11:51am
annie:

unfortunately, that movie got swept under the carpet.. waay over the heads of the average viewer.. pirates are the thing, ya know.. aarrgghh
  11:51am
Cecile:

dcp, he has small children and they can't go see his other movies yet.
  11:52am
jt:

Trouble is doing fine today!
  11:55am
trouble:

thanks jt
  11:56am
dale:

@anders: i just bought a logitech squeezebox web radio. i've been hearing stuff i never thought possible. search by country, city, genre, etc. yes, you can hear all of it on a computer, but you wouldn't know where to begin to find it all. it even has pandora built in - i do prefer a dj, though. they put things in context and make juxtapositions that services like pandora never could.
  11:56am
Stéphane:

Rest in Peace, Alain Bas(c)hung!
  11:59am
matheus:

ooh.

I dont know if you're aware of that, but...
they're saying naughty things in portuguese.
  12:07pm
anders krogdal:

SQUEEZEBOXES SOUNDS COOL!
I once read an article with Lee Renaldo, talking about driving in his car tuning in and enjoying what ever weird stuff was on. Then I tuned in. I can't recommend any Danish radio stations by the way...The freeform doesn't exist here so you hear the same songs over and over again... sad. well - good luck with the binary listening!
  6:21pm
phillip:

dammit trouble, you make me stop my work to look up something from your playlist every three minutes!!!
