A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Listener comments!

  9:05am
trouble:

good confused morning alll...
  9:06am
annie:

hamster love, i think, is banned in three states; right?
  9:08am
βrian:

Bonjour from Madison. Overcast and raining. No complaints.
  9:08am
BSI:

Johnny Law must NEVER interfere with the love of a consenting hamster of any age... These are enlightened times, no?
  9:12am
Parq:

I'm very fond of a cockatiel. I recognize that's not the same thing. Wasn't Phil Spector in the Fleetwoods?
  9:14am
chris:

Mornin'. Fidelity of the stream sounds a bit off today but the tunes are great!
  9:25am
BSI:

oddly funky, this suba...
could this be the legendary "hamster love" i-dose track?
  9:28am
trouble:

why yes,how did you know? from the hamster underground rap world...
  9:34am
north guinea hills:

@BSI, take out the "i" from "dose", and the meaning can go in many oddly funky directions.......
  9:42am
north guinea hills:

I don't have that Donovan record, that track was beautiful.
  9:42am
dale:

morning kids. ahhh, estate sales. i got a big wooden crate of 78s, some of them edion discs, for a dollar at an auction in the spring. now i just need a turntable to play them on.
  9:43am
dale:

ediSon discs...
  9:44am
Shana:

Good morning from Ann Arbor!

Dusty is so dreamy. Sigh.
  9:46am
dale:

this eno is wonderful....sounds like intro to fripp's version of 'here comes the flood'. i think eno produced that.
  9:47am
trouble:

good morning ann arbor. dale! can you play edison discs on a regular turntable or is that a victrola kind of thing? we played a victrola when we stayed at the saugerties lighthouse, very appropriate
  9:49am
still b/p:

Is my Evening Star still in the short album stack in the attic? Could we send a hamster up to check...?
  9:50am
dale:

just need 78 rpm and the appropriate stylus. i have to take a ride up to check out this lighthouse.
  9:52am
sean:

Salut, trouble
  9:53am
sean:

Yo Shana,
I went to high school in Ann Arbor.
  9:53am
trouble:

salut!
  9:54am
sean:

um, is this more audio drugs, left over from Ken's party??
  9:55am
Shana:

Which HS did you go to, Sean? I live around the corner from Commie High.
  9:56am
sean:

Ha ha -- that was for the "alternative" kids.
I was a river rat
  9:57am
ffrr:

Thrift stores sometimes have stand-alone 4sp. record players, but the needle is usually missing. Styli can be got through web sites though. Older 4sp turntables connected to a system tend to sound tinny for 78s, so you may consider some eq. (I have quite a collection) Isn't this Fripp as well?
  10:00am
?:

Brian Eno is the new "Brian Eno"
  10:04am
Philip Harris:

Are these Eno BBC sessions an official release?, never knew they existed.
  10:04am
trouble:

brian eno is always the new brian eno
  10:05am
βrian:

I know a few former commie high-schoolers. Yo, Shana.
  10:06am
?:

a quick google of the BBC Sessions refers to it as a "grey area", semi-legit-type Italian boot . . .
  10:07am
dale:

i read about a program that let's you record 78's at 33 rpm and it automatically speeds it up for you. any port in a storm i suppose.
  10:08am
north guinea hills:

I play 78's on my shure cartridges, but it kills the needle faster (my turntable goes up to 78). If you intend to play the record more then a few times per year, it's probably best to get 78 specific stylus, because it erodes the groove faster then a 78 specific stylus.
  10:08am
listener mark:

good morning trouble
good morning everyone
  10:09am
listener james from westwood:

yay—burroughs! always nice to hear, considering how much of his work isn't exactly fcc-friendly.
  10:09am
listener mark:

William S. Burroughs?
  10:10am
ffrr:

Quite right NGH. Want to preserve those discs!
  10:10am
Cecile:

ngh, when we were at WCBN, we had special regular stylii (already really beat up) we only used for 78s. 78s have sand in them to sharpen a gramophone needle!
  10:12am
annie:

cecile, wonder of wonders.. good morning
  10:12am
dale:

does burroughs sound like simon bar sinister?
  10:13am
Jennique:

Greetings from 'the zone" Trouble.

Once again I think of Drugstore Cowboy when I hear Burroughs.
  10:13am
v k:

super off topic - pbs aired a new 90 minute Merle Haggard documentary last nite - worth seeking out - most interesting fact was that Merle was a prisoner audience member for one of Cash's San Quentin concerts - like Dylan, when Merle goes, there will be a permanent void in music
  10:14am
still b/p:

Always loved the lost-on-kids meaning of simon's name.
  10:15am
Jennique:

V.K. - I saw the end of that documentary last night. Such a melancholy fellow, equating his tour bus to the same dimensions as his jail cell. Crazy to see ole Ronnie Reagan in attendance of one of his performances.
  10:15am
petey:

isn't it from underdog?
  10:17am
north guinea hills:

I saw an old clip of johnny and june carter cash's show that showed merle after he got out of prison, and he gave a rather frank account of what prison was like and how the world views an excon.
  10:17am
dale:

george jones will be at the dutchess county fair in rhinebeck this year - may have to go (before he does). saw johnny cash, but the best was tammy wynette at the bottom line. sitting anly 4 feet away from her and her great outfits (she had like 3 costume changes for an hour and a half show!)
  10:18am
Cecile:

annie, good ta see ya!
  10:18am
annie:

i will always have in my head 'sita sings the blues" when i hear annette.
  10:19am
sean:

No way! George Jones at rhinebeck?
gotta see that.
  10:21am
sugarwolf:

The Dutchess County Fair is also will have spaghetti and meatballs on a stick this year.
  10:21am
still b/p:

By the way, making a note for future compositions of odd & shameless shine-on mush: "You're more than a ten, you're a 78 -- the hidden sand of your grooves sharpens me."
  10:21am
Cecile:

LOL, sbp.
  10:24am
randy in NC:

re George Jones, you'll be lucky if shows up, and if he does, if he's on stage for more than half an hour.
  10:25am
sugarwolf:

I'm still a little mad that I never got to see Charo at the fair.
  10:26am
dale:

don't wanna hear that randy. not worth the price of admission? i miss porter wagoner..
  10:27am
dale:

we'll always have the spaghetti on a stick.
  10:27am
Cecile:

randy, I thought he'd cleaned up that part of his life?
  10:31am
randy in NC:

Yes he has cleaned up. I saw him about 5 - 8 years ago here at the State Fair and his band played for about 20 minutes, then he came on and he basically did an extended medley of his hits and that was that. But can now say I saw George Jones...
  10:31am
sean:

aint your memory got no shame at all?

(Right?!)
  10:33am
Cecile:

Awesome. That is a great anniversary to celebrate.
  10:33am
north guinea hills:

I wish I could have some ackee & saltfish for breakfast. It's so hard to find ackee in nyc, even in Jamaican restaurants.
  10:35am
dale:

that's what willie nelson did. about 3 or four bars of every song he ever wrote strung together when i saw him in nyc. i ended up leaving early, it was just boring.
  10:35am
sean:

You must say yes to lots of ridiculous things when you have a kid
  10:36am
listener james from westwood:

Maxwell the SIlver Hamster?
  10:37am
sean:

trouble, you are saving me from the horrific music in the Panera. God Bless You.
  10:39am
north guinea hills:

@listener james from westwood: ROFL!
  10:41am
Cecile:

SYL
You gonna do a cooking show with Syl, Trouble?
  10:42am
trouble:

sean i think panera should be required to play loops of pantera.
  10:43am
Cecile:

HAH!
I call it "Pantera Bread: Far Beyond Risen"
  10:44am
sean:

I will suggest that.
  10:45am
listener james from westwood:

Pantera Bread: Vulgar Display of Flour
  10:46am
Cecile:

LOL, listener james
  10:46am
Cecile:

Pantera Bread: Croissants from Hell.
  10:46am
sean:

I think I might have to bring them a cd.
  10:47am
listener james from westwood:

@Cecile—Yes! LOL!
  10:47am
sean:

they say they don't have that
  10:48am
Cecile:

Panera counter person: "May I take your order?"

Sean: "Walk! Respect! Are you talking to me?"
  10:49am
Cecile:

Note to stereo total: Please take a parenting class first.
  10:51am
annie:

what, did i see cooking show???
  10:51am
Carmichael:

Whoa, it's Thursday! Hi Trouble and people of the diaspora.
  10:52am
mike noble:

love that philly dong sound
  10:52am
annie:

hey, there's "boat talk"...... so why not "food talk" huh?? it's bound to happen..
  10:53am
Cecile:

Syl was talking about what a great cook he was on Trouble's show. And they had a great rapport. I think it needs to happen.
  10:54am
dale:

i like jimmy webb stripped down without the lush strings.
  10:54am
texas scott:

another Wichita Lineman?
where do you get this stuff?

love it.
  10:55am
?:

I herby rename Trouble's show the "'Wichita Lineman' Covers Show"
  10:55am
sean:

RESPECT, yes, thank you Cecile. my brain is mush
  10:56am
annie:

it could easily be snuck in.. just casually start chatting and each week. well add more chat and recipes.. BLAM!! "food talk" or some such catchy title
  10:57am
sean:

  10:59am

  11:01am
texas scott:

  11:02am

Hoagie sammich - delicious.
  11:06am

  11:07am
PMD:

Morning Trouble and all from San Mateo. @vk - watched half of that special on Merle Haggard special last night - really great. Oh, re: hamsters - they must be "in" as there's hamsters driving a Kia and rapping.
  11:07am
sugarwolf:

I've seen an establishment called Hoagie Barmichael's.
  11:07am
Jennique:

I saw Paul Mooney on the street this week! He was sitting outside having a falafel on the UWS.
  11:10am
