Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Favoriting August 4, 2010: PLEASURE KILLS live set!
The sunny, infectious power-pop sound of the Pleasure Kills will have you checking the calendar to make sure it's still 2010 and you haven't been transported to a Blondie show in 1975 or a Nikki and the Corvettes show in 1980. Not content to simply echo the past, these guys put their own mark on a classic sound and your ears will be smiling as a result. They're on a nationwide tour to support their new album Bring Me A Match (Polypore) - local listeners can catch them at Brighton Bar in Long Branch NJ Thursday Aug 5th with The Avengers! Check their myspace page for a show near you!

Listener comments!

  9:05pm
john:

Hey Evan! Great start; saw Syl put on a great show at the late lamented Beat in Port Chester, NY roughly 20 years ago. (Same place I saw the Cynics, one of whom would turn up a bit later in life...)
  9:14pm
efd:

Hi, John! I have a very faint memory of interviewing Syl and Johnny Rao (the guitar player) at WNYU around the time that LP came out!
  9:17pm
john:

DFFD! (Well, someone had to say it.)
  9:21pm
brad smith:

Listening to wfmu app on my iPhone on the deck. Nice!
  9:22pm
efd:

whoa! Hi, Brad! Everyone, Brad was one of my first bandmates ever, a long time ago!
  9:23pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans!
Hi Evan! Thanks for the set - this is cheering me up after failed internet date #3702
  9:24pm
Danne D:

Brad instantly is shown to be one of the coolest people in the history of ever.
  9:31pm
efd:

#3,703 will be the charm, Danne! I have faith!
  9:32pm
john:

The organist in the room approves!
  9:32pm
efd:

oh yeah, the keyboardist in the PKs rocks!
  9:34pm
Since You're Gone:

I can't help it ...
  9:35pm
Danne D:

Thanks EFD. I wish your prophesizing to be as good as your DJing...alas not all of us guys have the charm and charisma of Evan Funk Davies. *sigh*

This is fantastic btw.
  9:39pm
john:

It's great, yeah! We're hearing an organ-driven Robin Lane and the Chartbusters, for those of you Boston-inclined...
  9:40pm
efd:

funny, I almost brought my "When Things Go Wrong" single to play in the opening set! Great minds, etc.
  9:44pm
antonia:

great show, too bad i broke one of my headphones while listening :(
  9:46pm
efd:

hi Antonia, Glad you're enjoying the set but sorry about your headphones!
  9:47pm
Danne D:

Evan's show is rocking too hard and breaking up equipment now! :D (though I am sorry to hear that Antonia) :(

Pretty quiet board - folks must be dancing around their rooms right now :)
  9:51pm
efd:

I know, this doesn't bode well for my plan to try to bring the #indiefantasybaseballteams twitter meme to my accuplaylist later!
  10:01pm
Danne D:

Evan you will get a kick out of this:
Do check out the rosters.

  10:04pm
efd:

ooh, nice! I'll be watching on TV from the safety of my home.

I need more of a pointer for what I'm looking at on that site; I think I'll have to wait til after my show to check it out.
  10:08pm
Danne D:

yeah you should check it out afterwards:

Chronology here:

http://www.cosmicbaseball.com/cbachron.html

Been a long time since I looked this thing up - looks like a lot of added intriguing pages and links.

I hope to avoid a nosebleed just from the height of the seats. I will say that I shall be attending with a radio personality from another radio station (who is a personal friend).

Radio-politics-baseball-art all rolled into like one comment. As Mel Allen would say: how about that!
  10:11pm
Danne D:

Anyhow, I have to eat so I shall depart the comments board. Hopefully some of the other Funk Family members will pick up the slack :) Have a great night Evan - looking forward to enjoying the rest of the show :D
  10:12pm
efd:

Enjoy your meal, Danne! Thanks for listening & commenting.
  10:17pm
plinko:

  10:22pm
efd:

  10:27pm
Parq:

Evan, the Pleasure Kills were, well, killer. That great pop-rockin' sound just never fails to hit me where I live. And I dug hearing Mucca too. You're going to plug their upcoming Lincoln Center gig, yeah?
  10:28pm
efd:

Indeed!

(It's the all-purpose reply!)
  11:15pm

VY:

I'm on the edge of my suspenders
  11:49pm
dave:

ever since since shocking story broke, c'est plane pour moi and jet boy/jet girl have been on pretty much infinite repeat in my brain. thanks for playing half of that of that playlist! i'm guessing you won't be playing the other half.
  11:49pm
VY:

not Gerard Depardieu?
  11:49pm
dave:

er, and by "c'est", i mean "ca".
  11:54pm
VY:

you've got Vanilli all over my Bertrand
  11:54pm
dave:

all that being said, this live performance, which is indisputably plastic bertrand, is convincingly punk:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXDvLc2Eoko
  11:55pm
will:

What about the rest of that first Plastic Bertrand LP which was kinda good. p.s. Metro never contained PB (Duncan Browne and Peter Godwin)
  11:59pm
efd:

ah, thanks Will. I don't know why I was thinking that was Plastic Bertrand. This guy Deprijck said he sang "the first four albums," so that may be him on all the tracks. Only the single was the subject of the court case, though.
  11:59pm
VY:

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
