A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

It's ain't the heat...it's the woomidity .The short bike ride was trés sexy. But watermelon waited at work.

Yeah, amphibians and urban development. No love there.

  9:44am
dale:

morning all. gettin' steamy in the hudson valley.
  9:45am
gumby:

nice summertime feel this mornin'. Or maybe its because I'm still in my screenporch instead of at work. Either way it feels good.
  9:47am
Eric:

I cold brew iced coffee every day! It is so great! I use a French press, so the straining is really easy. And my expert coffee sources tell me that in a small batch of that size only needs to sit for about 3 hours. The results are good!
  9:48am
Mike East:

Really? room temperature or in the fridge?
  9:50am
gumby:

iced is my coffee preference too. It's amazing how dunkin' donuts coffee can't stand up to the ice. Starbucks is the goods. Or home brewed Papua New Guinea is really livin'
  9:54am
Shana:

Checking in from Ann Arbor, MI. Drinking my coffee hot and black this morning.
  9:55am
djarnis:

Trouble in my ears on the bus.. Sweet deal
  9:55am
Jennique:

Good sweaty morning to you Trouble. Considering an iced coffee this morning, which is not my usual.
  9:55am
gumby:

trouble just saw your ponder. Humid is way sexy. Sweat don't smell, old sweat smells. Snow is just survival. Hot is where I thrive.
  9:57am
trouble:

good morning portland! when are you two starlings making the big drive? hey stu! just started midsummer moomintroll...i brew the ice coffee on the counter and then put it in the fridge.
  9:59am

Adrian in London:

Howdy all from London. Yes to Arnaud Fleurent-Didier; great album.
  10:07am
trouble:

bonjour adrian!
  10:09am
Cecile:

my iced coffee mostly consists of the stuff I don't finish in the morning sitting in the fridge until I can season it the next day with cream and sugar. I use this coffee this Ethiopian dude imports and sells out of an old guard shack in an office complex.
  10:10am
Cecile:

gumby I am the complete opposite of you. I thrive in cold, I survive in hot.
  10:17am
Cecile:

How are Phoenix live? They're playing in town next week. I might try and get tix on Craigslist if they are any good.
  10:23am
don:

this is fantastic
  10:31am
?:

doo-wop is where it's at today
  10:40am
Francis:

Bonjour Trouble.Arrived early at home, pleased to take a little rest listening to the second half of your show and writting a letter to my best friend and greatest love of my life, my double feminin trouble girl.
  10:42am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

and I shall write a song called "Double Feminin Trouble Girl".
  10:43am
Cecile:

winston troy sounds like a reggae artist.
  10:44am
cheri pi:

Can you imagine if Wolfman Jack had had a slot on WFMU?<3
  10:44am
βrian:

Salut de Madison. I'm having my triple espresso. So bitter it makes life sweet.
  10:44am
esch oder anarchie:

Chatter foolishly to you heart's content, Trouble -- we love you (he gushed).
  10:50am
Francis:

I'm a fan of Pinback ; listening to Phoenix , I had the feeling they had plagiarized Pinback , but without the wonderful complexity of Pinback : sorry,Phoenix became fastly boring for me.
  10:51am
Cecile:

I like that song "If I ever feel better." That's the manic-depressive's national anthem.
  10:52am
Woof Moo Wolfman:

never normal free-formal from the coolest school of no rules comin' at you from pumpin' and jumpin' Jersey City, baby -- Wolfman Jack's hairy tracks and freak attacks, the uppermost cuts from the outermost limits.....Woof Moo Owwooooooooo!
  10:53am
Cecile:

I heard it on the W. woooooooooooooooooo.
  11:03am
Jennique:

Wolfman Jack was wonderful in American Graffiti. I still see him sitting alone at the radio station eating popsicles because the freezer broke.
  11:04am
trouble:

yes I love that scene!
  11:07am
Cecile:

I loved him on 70s TV because he always brought that anarchy and fun.
  11:08am
JK (Boston):

Got any of that new Tom Jones???
  11:09am
annie:

butting in here with an off-topic question: anyone else experiencing problems with firefox>
  11:12am
listener james from westwood:

@annie: Firefox problems w/ the playlist, or in general? In general, I find Firefox 3.x for Mac less stable than 2.x; especially when I try to print PDFs from it. Much more prone to crash.
  11:12am
cheri pi:

Annie, I've been using ff all morning w/o problem. anything specific?
  11:12am
still b/p:

No Firefox issues on this site, but elsewhere...
  11:12am
Adrian in London:

Annie: quit and reboot. That usually fixes everything to do with computers.
  11:13am
Adrian in London:

JK: I came acrossa John Cooper Clarke poem called Tom Jones.

"Back in town in a black Rolls Royce
The funky, hunky housewives choice
In one fact he can rejoice
His trousers don't affect his voice"
  11:16am
Cecile:

I liked tom better with the Art of Noise.
He's soulful, but he's no roots artist. He's like processed cheese in the best possible way.
  11:17am
annie:

they just installed some new updates to my rss feed and ever since then, i've been experiencing hesitation issues and the browser window shutting unexpectedly or just crashing.. i use chrome for fmu...i use firefox for things which i do not want on chrome. email, web browsing, etc.
  11:19am
annie:

oh, speaking of soul, i attended a small weekly open mike at the local pub .... the talent lacked soul.. to say the least.. and the majority of the performers were singing from sheets of lyrics and chord settings.. pretty sad..
  11:21am
PMD:

hello all... nice to hear the frogs/chirping Trouble.
  11:22am
Cecile:

Tom is great. I'm not so hot on the arrangment.
  11:22am
βrian:

" ... leurs cris discordants" Love it.
  11:22am
Stu:

Hei Trouble, Is the Moomin book entitled "Midsummer Madness " ? Usual translation from Finnish is the "Dangerous Midsummer "

Cheers ....( I think I just heard a French frog !! )

Finnish birds next week perhaps !
Love ya! Stu
  11:22am
depilatrix:

YES TOM JONES IS THE BOMB!!!
  11:23am
Cecile:

It needs about three more choirs and strings. And a bagpipe. So it can keep up with the massiveness that is Tom.
  11:23am
Mike East:

Open mics can be depressing - both participating and being in the audience. Depends on the scene, though
  11:23am
Jennique:

I think there are just a few people out there who would agree that Tom Jones is the bomb. Mostly female.
  11:25am
fishmonkeystew:

Hey Annie! Does you local open mike allow cover songs? At least one of our local cafes claims that they can't allow cover songs because they have to pay royalties.
  11:25am
Cecile:

Don't read Katie Roiphe. She only gets it about 6% of the time.
  11:27am
dale:

just got netflix and it rocks. i use a roku box to stream from my dsl router to the old cathode ray tube. can see tons of movies yes, but pbs shows and documentaries i missed the first time. also have first three seasons of alfred hitchcock presents on my instant queue.
  11:27am
trouble:

yes stu that's it!
  11:28am
Jennique:

Trouble, I bought the entire series of Mad Men on iTunes, so it downloads the next day on Monday. I can't handle waiting for the season to end to get them on dvd. And I agree with your comment about messiness. I watch the show to travel in time back to the 60s and thank my stars I was born later on and without birth defects!
  11:28am
Cecile:

I love the Netflix for the Wii
  11:29am
Cecile:

I don't watch Mad Men because I don't want to travel back in time to that part of the 60s.

I'm all about the RuPaul's Drag U.
  11:29am
cheri pi:

I'm hearing some nice flesheaters' influences here.
  11:30am
listener james from westwood:

Sans cable for the past decade, Netflix enabled my 30 Rock, Deadwood, and Mad Men catch-up binges with aplomb. I too have also supplemented w./ PBS docs. But I've also gotten the season pass for MM Season 4 on iTunes, with the goal of wiring the Mac laptop to the TV somehow when all is said and done.
  11:31am
annie:

FMS- well.... let's just say that there were two songs performed out of the twenty or so that were original. the majority were old standard rock and roll and country western junk, badly performed.. :( free admission, though...
  11:32am
Brooklyn:

LOVE THIS SONG!!
  11:33am
Crutchtar:

Merry GO Round!
  11:33am
Adrian in London:

There's a new Tove Jansson 'adult' book out. Travelling Light. on Sort Of books.
  11:35am
Ike:

I was eating a nice spicy buffet at Baba Hut, an Andhra Indian hole-in-the-wall in JC, and they put on the TV to a music video channel. Unexpectedly it was a French pop music videos. And they were pretty good. Made me think of Trouble's show.
  11:37am
still b/p:

annie, why didn't you get you up there and stun the house with a beyond-Etta rendition of "At Last"....?
  11:38am
annie:

bp------- you been reading my mail..... i would have...i'm shy
  11:39am
annie:

but i can sing the blues, man
  11:39am
Stu:

Thanks Adrian, I'll look for " Travelling Light" here in Finland. All her books are for adults( even the kid's ones ! ) She's a national treasure
  11:44am
still b/p:

"..and now I'm gonna sing for you, 'The Pale Wailing Lameness Of This Open Mike Session Has Dropped Me Two Floors Below the Sub-Dungeon of Deepest Blues'."
  11:47am
annie:

funny, bp, that's exactly what i was thinking as the evening wore on..
  11:50am
dale:

i wouldn't want the booger man to get me. boogie man, maybe
  11:51am
?:

Of course they are Stu. Trouble knows this but I met her in Stockmann's once. She signed a copy of Moominvalley in November for me; "Adrian spelled like Adrian Mole?" One of my most prized possessions.
  11:51am
annie:

update on jean ritchie: she's been released from the nursing home and is home in good spirits.
  11:52am
trouble:

thanks adrian. i will look for it. i love her adult fictions, rather dark..
  6:02pm
Nathan:

This was a great show, perfect for our lazy summer weekend here in Portland, Oregon. Never heard of the Bush Tetras before(!), good stuff.
