Listener comments!

  12:06am
muhrvis:

Greetings from Eugene, OR.

What was that wild "r-a-d-i-o" intro track?
  12:08am
Joe McG:

Hey, Muhrvis! That's the Yip Yip Aliens discovering the radio, as I do each week.
  12:13am
coalhard:

you can see them on "my vidster"--too
  12:16am
muhrvis:

Ah, cool! Thx!
  12:17am
Joe McG:

They can be seen on YouTube, as coalhard rightly points out.
  12:38am
coalhard:

if you want to see something really good go to youtube type in gentleman's duel (wow) --but save to favorites --listen to show currently playing!!!!
  12:41am
coalhard:

hit first listing on google search
  12:53am
muhrvis:

you're stoned!
  12:54am
coalhard:

i don't like not commenting on the music ---which i will do right after i comment on cnn heroes---!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  1:03am
coalhard:

did you know there are about 80 (mostly college stations)--streaming on line--i sample all of em--but WFMU IS THE BEST BY FAR!!!!!
  1:04am
muhrvis:

Where do you find the best list of streamers?
  1:08am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Joe! Hey everyone! Lot of old electro stuff this block, or just the last two items?
  1:09am
coalhard:

http://zoomout.in/college-radio-map/
  1:10am
Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! Fairly recently. Doing the robot now.
  1:12am
Matt from Springfield:

@coalhard: There are a lot of streaming online stations--that college radio one is a good guide, but NPR stations also have high-quality streams, usually. WUOG and WXPN for example.
  1:12am
coalhard:

hey muhrvis--i have all these saved in winamp--just have to click on one instant music
  1:14am
Matt from Springfield:

http://jrabold.net/radio/ Allegro! search

This is a program-based NPR streaming search tool. I used to listen to these often, but I agree with you coalhard--with WFMU--and the ARCHIVES!!--I don't bother much with other stations anymore!
  1:15am
coalhard:

i grew up on npr-led me here
  1:18am
Matt from Springfield:

I don't discount them entirely, for I also support the local Classical NPR station, but 'FMU is a friggin' godsend! I can search for the gems like before, or just pour the handfuls of WFMU gems down my pants--hells yeah!
  1:20am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Do you have a lot of Bonzo or Neil/Vivian releases? I'm sure your demographic would like hearing them!
  1:21am
Joe McG:

Yeah, a few! You're right, they should get more airtime on my program. Note to self!
  1:25am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Joe! (flicks lighter) CANYONS OF YOUR MIND!!! Wooo!

(Seeing "Neil/Vivian" side by side just reminded me that the characters from the Young Ones also had a few novelty records out.)
  1:25am
coalhard:

now we have sirrus xm radio in car--love my 2010 ford
  1:26am
Joe McG:

No prob, Matt!
  1:28am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: "Keynsham" is one of my favs, have it on vinyl!
@coalhard: For driving around, XM is great--playlists like I imagine the original commercial FM once had. Matter of fact I would be stressed out if I had to rely on lugging CDs around every time I drove.
  1:30am
Matt from Springfield:

At Last the 1948 Show!
featuring Cleese, Chapman, Marty Feldman and Tim Brooke Taylor. And a pretty chick!
  1:32am
coalhard:

i fart in my own general direction
  1:33am
Joe McG:

Marty Feldman!!
  1:34am
Matt from Springfield:

My pleasure Joe!
I have both sets on DVD. "Do Not Adjust Your Set" was more broadly-based entertaining, while the 1948 Show was probably closer to what Python became.
  1:35am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Yes, Ol' Google Eyes pre-Mel Brooks!
@coalhard: Yeah well, I bet your mother's not a hamster, nor does your father smell of elderberries.
  1:41am
Joe McG:

I just rewatched "Young Frankenstein" around Halloween and Marty carried away the movie for me this time, along with Gene Wilder's I'm-going-to-combust-any-minute performance.
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

Great Halloween viewing--I ought to remember to bring Young Frahnk-en-steen out around that time.
  1:46am
coalhard:

ok--EVERYBODY--BACK TO THE MUSIC---I WAS ALMOST SUCKED IN TO ALTERNATE UNIVERSE MYSELF
  1:48am
Joe McG:

This one goes out to anyone in Union City tonight.
  1:50am
Matt from Springfield:

Karen sounded interesting, I wonder if she was part of anything else. Really diggin' the Blondie as well!

@coalhard: You have an admirable sense of focus! On Irwin's playlists it's just a free-for-all of side-conversations, meta-jokes and stabs at conceptual humor using pseudonyms.
  1:52am
Joe McG:

Now's the time to get in those did-you-shoot-your-woman-down jokes in, fellas.
  1:52am
coalhard:

I NAILED MY PARROT ON HIS STICK LONG AGO
  1:55am
Matt from Springfield:

Great classic country lyric!
  2:10am
Matt from Springfield:

And a great spot on animal cruelty--really more media need to mention that, more often than they currently do!
  2:11am
coalhard:

i love strays--wfmu was a stray once--i took her in --now -purrs constantly
  2:14am
Matt from Springfield:

"Adopt a radio station--be there for them, and they'll always be there for you!"
  2:16am
Joe McG:

We're very loyal!
  2:22am
Matt from Springfield:

I got an early day tomorrow so I will need to check out after this set. Thanks for your loyalty Joe, and this groovin' mix! I guess I'll just have to leave you and coalhard to your own devices! (Anyone else out there?)
  2:24am
coalhard:

bye--love ya--take care
  2:24am
Joe McG:

As always, thx for hangin' out, Matt!
  2:26am
Matt from Springfield:

Hmm, McDonald and Giles was a project of two of the original King Crimson members. This is a lovely album, will need to obtain, see if there's good linear notes to go with.

Take care both of you, always glad to hang out with ya!
  2:29am
coalhard:

matt --your a genius
  2:36am
Derek B:

This is exactly how this time should sound, nicely done.
  2:39am
Joe McG:

Thanks, Derek, glad you could join me this morning...
  2:39am
coalhard:

i accidently sent my brain into outter space--i hit enter instead of shift--will send pictures of pluto
  2:42am
Derek B:

I wore my 'Radio Bear' tee today and felt really cool while buying holiday crap from China; so I got that going for me...
  2:45am
Joe McG:

Wearing the Radio Bear is good in all kinds of situations, including buying crap. I was wearing mine the other day while doing the laundry. Maybe I didn't look cool, but I felt as if I did, which is half the battle.
  1:41pm
Bob from BUG:

I have a cassette tape with you "Sesame Street Alien intro"!! thanks for the flash backs!!!
