Here's what got me out of bed. I wake up turn on the radio, grab a mag & open to a rvw of Magic Mixture on Saga. Meanwhile Mike is providing the soundtrack. (And why it's Magical Mixture on Mike's comp should be investigated)
I'm so lo-tech, I have no audio on computer, but you have forced me up to engage the playlist. Not because of Mixture or Maximus, but by the backannouncing of my MAINest man ever, Gene Clark. I knew immediately which song Mike meant: the one with 4 CHORDS! SOOOOO I had to get up & see what other eye-hand coordination I was missing: no online audio means no ability to hear the archives..
  2:15am
frenchee:

Happy Easter, Cheri and all other Easter bunnies!
  2:22am
tomB:

Geez Mike I don't think I've heard the Purple version SINCE 1969. It's better than I remember. Meanwhile, you;'re correct about Bojangles. It was released under his name summer of '68 to undercut the sales of the version by NittyGritty Dirt Band, who played it as a waltz. JJW made it swing, must have used triplets in 4 or a polyrythmic 6/8 --where's Bob Brainen when we need him.
JJW kept on thru the yrs, he even put a tribute to his fellow Texan, Nolan Ryan, on a cassingle.

randy in NC:

Mike- Thanks for playing the live Crimso! The audience probably didn't know what hit them. A look at the Fillmore East website says that the other acts on the bill those nights were Joe Cocker, Fleetwood Mac, and the Voices of East Harlem! Robert Fripp's www.dgmlive.com website is pretty interesting. He has released CDs and MP3s of many of their live shows. Pete Sinfield's website www.songsouponsea.com is also interesting. Go to the Discography and he has RealAudio clips of virtually every cover ever done from 1969 to now of the KC stuff he wrote. I dare a WFMU DJ to play an entire show of 21'st CSM covers, there are certainly enough to fill 2-3 hours. It would be like the afternoon when Kenny G played every version of Loose by the Stooges. There is an amazing cover of 21's CSM by a Japanese acoustic jazz group for example. I Talk to the Wind, Moonchild, and Epitaph are also pretty well covered. Anything from dark metal to jazz to hip hop to bluegrass.
  3:11pm
randy in NC:

Mike-
Yes that was KC's first (and only) tour with the band as it existed on the 1st LP. Their last date was only a month later at the Filmore West. Ian McDonald and Mike Giles quit after that tour, then Keith Emerson lured Greg Lake away to ELP leaving Fripp and Sinfield with no band. They didn't come back again to the US until 1971 with the Islands personel.

Alley Alley! Thanks Thanks!
