Listener comments!

  9:10pm
Kat:

This show is off to one heckuva start!
  9:12pm
?:

I second that motion. What was the track that lead in to chilliwack? was that the Do or DIY set?
  9:12pm
efd:

Thanks Kat! For those not on Twitter, I JUST got to the station a few minutes ago (thanks, Amtrak and NJ Transit). You're hearing just what's in my record bag, CD case and 45 box tonight.
  9:13pm
G:

So this is kind of "The Essential Evan Episode" then?
  9:15pm
efd:

the song before Chilliwack was a new Brian Eno cut that board up Tuim selected.
  9:15pm
John L.:

I know it's a pretty basic riff, but it just occured to me how much the ELO tune sounds like "Jerkin Crocus" by Mott the Hoople. Oye, if memory serves, I saw John Miles with City Boy and Bebop Deluxe. I'm having flashbacks.
  9:16pm
SF Spike:

highfly!?! Thank you, kind sir.
  9:19pm
Stevel:

Ready to tune in, turn on and drop out--and work on a mailing spreadsheet. WHeeee!
  9:27pm
Living Doll:

I'm late, what happened for the first couple minutes til you got there?
  9:28pm
?:

ma ma ma belle appeared on 2 different 45s - it was its own single then later the b-side of Livin thing!
  9:33pm
Living Doll:

Is that Small Change?
  9:34pm
G:

That's Adam Warrock
  9:34pm
Kat:

*hands in the air*
  9:35pm
Madi H.:

I gotta check in to say hi to WARROCK! You know what's up.
  9:36pm
Living Doll:

Ahhh that was interesting
  9:38pm
Randy in NC:

Ahh, the joys of the NY metro area...
  9:49pm
Madi H.:

I don't know him, but he's great.
  10:03pm
Stevel:

Inspiring, and reality-based. You sure AWR is a mere mortal? Nice talk!
  10:04pm
PB:

Good for you Adam, it took real guts to do what you did.
  10:05pm
Living Doll:

Kinda makes me feel like a wimp
  10:10pm
Living Doll:

  10:14pm
Living Doll:

Real hair?
  10:15pm
Living Doll:

Hey Evan is up on his meter from last week, yay for last minute donors
  10:19pm
efd:

Yes, thanks to everyone who pledged during the silent fundraiser! Money will still be accepted in Awevember.
  10:22pm
Stevel:

I'm balding, but more towards the front of my head. I hope they play one for me!!
  10:26pm
Living Doll:

Isn't this a Kinks song? Or did the Kinks cover it?
  10:27pm
?:

ray davies song for a film or tv show
  10:27pm
doobie:

Yeah!
  10:28pm
efd:

I think Dave Berry wrote it, but the Kinks also did it. (Where's Joe B when you need him?)
  10:28pm
Holly in NC:

It's a great song!
  10:28pm
Living Doll:

This was an early one I think. Not for a film
  10:28pm
?:

this strange effect oriignal artist was Dave Berry.
  10:30pm
Joe B:

song was written by Ray Davies, Dave Berry had the first release. Kinks never officially released it though it is on the live at the BBC CD. and of course Steve Wynn covered it on his Sweetness and Light LP
  10:31pm
Holly in NC:

Per Wiki:
Dave Berry (born David Holgate Grundy, 6 February 1941, Woodhouse, Sheffield)[1] is a British pop singer and former teen idol of the 1960s. He performed a mixture of hard R&B and pop ballads and was popular in Britain, and on Continental Europe but had no commercial success in the US, where he is best known for the original versions of Ray Davies' "This Strange Effect" and Graham Gouldman's "I'm Going To Take You There". He had an unusual ambition for a pop performer trying to make a name for himself - to appear on TV completely hidden by a prop.[2] In his own words, to "not appear, to stay behind something and not come out". He often hid behind the upturned collar of his leather jacket, or wrapped himself around, and effectively behind, the microphone lead.[2]
  10:31pm
efd:

Thanks Joe!
  10:31pm
John L.:

Ray Davies wrote it, but Berry had the hit with it. The Kinks version is on the, I think, Kinda Kinks double reissue.
  10:31pm
efd:

...and Holly and John!
  10:34pm
Holly in NC:

Loving The Bon -will we get to hear Miss October?
  10:36pm
Mike Sin:

They're putting the Whammy on me!!!
  10:36pm
efd:

Holly, I don't want to give any spoilers but I wouldn't go walking any dogs either.
  10:37pm
Holly in NC:

:-)
  10:37pm
Joe B:

can't listen at work but I am confident Mike Sin did a great job at the controls!
  10:38pm
efd:

He did! They sound fantastic!
  10:44pm
Holly in NC:

Yay!
  10:48pm
Holly in NC:

So I can purchase the lp (oh, you all know what I mean) for $8.99 on amazon vs $10 on bandcamp. But if I save $, does it cost the band $?
  10:50pm
Rosh:

Just dropping in to say: Never heard a Warrock interview before (twas lovely) & this Bon set's pretty killer. Thanks for dealing w/ commuter chaos to get this out, totally making my night.
  10:51pm
efd:

Both sites take some sort of cut of the purchase price, but they'll get a litte more if you spring for the extra buck on bandcamp.
  10:52pm
efd:

Thanks Rosh, I appreciate that! Glad you're enjoying the show!
  10:53pm
Living Doll:

Wow Joe B is like Beetlejuice. Call him and he appears
  11:01pm
?:

efd shone the B. signal over JC, and Joe flew in to defend truth and justice in music credit! Maybe a new Warrock rap topic
  11:05pm
Living Doll:

Blondie?
  11:06pm
john:

Squire! And on Secret Affair's label, no less...
  11:07pm
efd:

  11:07pm
Living Doll:

I thought my phone was ringing!
  11:07pm
Living Doll:

  11:09pm
Tim Serpas:

  11:10pm

  11:12pm
anomaly:

  11:13pm
Holly in NC:

Cool. Paid Bandcamp, But - irritating - Bandcamp dl not working!! As far as I can tell my dl *may* start sometime in the next 3 days to 3 years...sigh.
Can't afford to throw $10 to the wind as guess what - that sweet Brooklyn dog I was walking last week lost her tags as I was hustling her along, or so I thought, so I went & spent $25 for a new set of id.
And then of course said tags were really underneath her couch cushion :-(
  11:14pm
Living Doll:

That was a French song, though the April March version is easier to sing
  11:14pm
Palmetto Bugs:

You sure we didn't steal the tags and packrat them in the couch?
  11:21pm
Living Doll:

oh a palmetto bug is a cockroach?
  11:22pm
Stevel:

Stranglers are always a good choice.
  11:22pm
Palmetto Bugs:

Ask Holly. She's the expert!
  11:23pm
Holly in NC:

A HONKIN' BIG cockroach, with wings - and an attitude.

Some of 'em, however, are kinda cute ;-)
  11:24pm
Palmetto Bugs:

Attitude is everything in this life O:-)
  11:25pm
G:

I feel like I am in a Doors solo about now!
  11:26pm
Living Doll:

I had one climb up my leg under my pants once..it was awful
  11:27pm
efd:

heh, I remember thinking the same thing G! Dave Greenfield at his most Manzarekian.
  11:27pm
Palmettos Bugs:

Some of the boys could use an etiquette lesson or two
  11:30pm
Holly in NC:

@Living Doll - same thing happened to me recently with a cave cricket - totally awful. I did the hand slap thing - SQUISH!. Ugh. Flashback. No dinner for while..
  11:38pm
Stevel:

Manzarekian. I just wanted to say that again. Manzarekian
  11:47pm
Holly in NC:

Canada. EFD, Rush. Cool old documentaries.

  11:54pm
Parq:

Here are three things that were on tape at a Brian Brain show at the Dirt Club in 1982:
1) The drums.
2) The between-song patter.
3) The audience cheering at the end of the set.
  11:55pm
Parq:

(I should add that the set was really strong and all of us real people in the crowd were applauding. It's just that they apparently weren't taking chances.)
