Listener comments!

  11:58am
Doug S.:

I've got to dash out, but I'll dig the show later on archive. Have a(nother) fantastic streamcast, Amanda! U.R.D. Best!
  11:59am
Carmichael:

Back in black! Hi Amanda, Doug, and yet to be heard from listeners.
  12:01pm
Van in Dallas:

Did everyone survive Christmas? Hi Amanda and everyone that survived! :)
  12:02pm
listener james from westwood:

good wednesday, nazarenes and scenarians!
  12:04pm
Amanda:

Hi you all! So glad I survived the holiday, so that I could be with you again...
  12:04pm
Doug S.:

I am still hearing the stream. Have you switched over, Amanda?
  12:05pm
Carmichael:

I'm hearing burritos, Doug, so it must be switched.
  12:06pm
Amanda:

The SAM cast is saying it is "encoded"... and it looks ok from here...
  12:06pm
Van in Dallas:

Yeah, Building Fires?
  12:09pm
Doug S.:

Weird. My old existing Drummer Radio connection on iTunes is still playing the stream, but when I clicked on the link you provided, it plays your show. Could be confusing to some listeners who already have the link and are trying to use it w/out reestablishing the connection.

I'll yammer with computer guru Adler about it.

  12:22pm
Amanda:

Ahoy Glenn!
  12:22pm
listener james from westwood:

hey glenn!
stream's working well thru the playlist link.
  12:23pm
Ranger:

Good afternoon, dear Amanda! I have made it to listen live two weeks in a row now--can you believe it?
  12:23pm
?:

i was thinking about how great and weird the adventures of pete and pete was.
  12:24pm
glenn:

ooops. that was me.
  12:29pm
listener james from westwood:

must head out, but will catch the archive. thanks for the wonderful music this year, amanda, and thanks to doug for bringing the scenario into the gtdr fold!
  12:30pm
pgw in mntclr:

"pete and pete" was awesome. and i'm not just saying that because it's my name. and my freshman college roommate's name.
  12:30pm
Carmichael:

Good man, Matt! I feel the same way.
  12:30pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Amanda and all the listeners. Merry Christmas.
  12:32pm
Alf from Upstate:

Welcome back, Amanda!
  12:40pm
Dan in Seattle:

First D:O Radio, now this. I am digging it.
  12:41pm
Amanda:

Thanks, Dan! Welcome to the festivities. And hullo, Alf!
  12:46pm
Amanda:

@Carmichael -- until I was like 20 years old I thought Hazy Shade of Winter was by the Bangles.
  12:48pm
Carmichael:

He he ... I had no idea who Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters were until I started reading Led Zeppelin liner notes.
  12:49pm
Zhanna:

Hey Naz! I finally got a chance to check out your show! You rock! (as you always did back in the day!)
  12:50pm
Fiveash:

I actually have no quarrel with Garfunkel although I would kill him without blinking if Simon used him as a human shield.
  12:50pm
efd:

"High Flyin' Baby" will never not sound amazing. Great show so far, Amanda! And I expect that will continue to be the case.
  12:51pm
Amanda:

Wow! Zhanna! Thank you so so much for listening! All the best to you and your fam this season. No one rocks like you do/did!
  12:52pm
Ranger:

Not that there is anything wrong with the Bangles, dadburnit!!
  12:53pm
Fiveash:

Hi Evan! Yeah I was going to add a comment about High Flyin' Baby and the Roy Loney era Groovies being the greatest band of all time but Amanda (and everyone else I know) is sick of hearing me go on about it.
  12:54pm
glenn:

especially since everybody knows that the kinks are the greatest band of all time.
  12:59pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  1:02pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Give the Drummer radio is a cult stream. Awesome shows and awesome music.
  1:05pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, how do you like my new keyboard. Total carp is thong of the pist.

glenn there is still a ? about you, allegedly!! Favourite Raymond Douglas Davies song?
  1:09pm
glenn:

i don't know. i could prolly narrow it down to five, or maybe ten.
  1:09pm
Amanda:

Aww, Richard, nice words. Hi ndbob!

@Ranger -- pfft, I still put "Eternal Flame" on on repeat in my self-pitying moments...

Brian and glenn -- ugh, I forgot to play my Father Christmas 45 last week.

Matt, I thought you were at work now!
  1:13pm
?:

party line. see my friends. autumn almanac. harry rag. waterloo sunset. victoria. there's just too many great kinks songs. plus, dave's song death of a clown is definitely one of my faves.
  1:13pm
Fiveash:

There's certainly an argument for the Kinks, but they stuck around for long enough to make some crappy records whereas that version of the Groovies were done after "Teenage Head". We need some sort of points system in order to figure this out...
  1:13pm
glenn:

ooops. me again.
  1:13pm
Ranger:

Ahhhh, I love these Scots so much! (My Bangles song of choice is "If She Knew What She Wants," but of course I will never say no to "Eternal Flame.")
  1:14pm
glenn:

i say just go by the number of great songs. the kinks rule the roost.
  1:16pm
Carmichael:

Kinks: Standing Underneath the Neon Sign.
Bangles: Going Down to Liverpool
  1:22pm
Fiveash:

I would add Stop Your Sobbing, I Need You, Time Will Tell, I'll Remember, Dave's I Am Free... too many to list. Maybe you're right Glenn, although I still insist on subtracting points for whatever you call the synthesis of longevity/suckiness. If the Stones had hung it up after Exile on Main Street they would deserve serious consideration for the title, but at this point they have made more crappy albums than good ones and we can't let that slide! Amanda, I'm working tonight.
  1:24pm
ndbob:

I agree with you about the Stones Fiveash
  1:24pm
?:

i kinda agree, but i think some girls is actually the last great stones album.
  1:25pm
glenn:

grrrr.
  1:25pm
Brian in UK:

Tired of Waiting is so sad. Bit like 'Help' never understood how The Fabs sang that song in such a jaunty manner.
You are a hard judge Mr Fiveash, people like Neil Jung fall into this category.
Agree glenn/?
  1:28pm
ndbob:

the strangest concert I ever attended was a Kinks concert - the building was evacuated due to a bomb threat - not long after the concert resumed, the Kinks were tossing beer around, Ray Davies fell on the stage, hit his head, and could not continue.
  1:28pm
glenn:

then again, wire's up there too.
  1:29pm
Half Deaf Dog:

A heartworming story? Holy cow!!!!
  1:29pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda, have you ever seen a camera obscura?
http://www.giantcamera.com/
  1:31pm
ndbob:

"Tired of Waiting.." was one of the first four records I ever bought.
  1:31pm
Fiveash:

Glenn- if you are talking about the TV show The Wire, then I am inclined to agree: true, it is a TV show and not a band but is so great that it merits consideration as the greatest band of all time. The band Wire is pretty good too.
  1:32pm
G:

glenn used to front the mysterians. force of habit.
  1:34pm
Fiveash:

Brian, I agree about Neil, but he doesn't lose as many points because he's been all over the map where as the Stones have just gotten consistently more sucky and embarassing as time goes on.
  1:34pm
?:

This might be glenn, thereagain it might be a kink in his armor
  1:34pm
glenn:

no, i meant the band, but it's a fookin' great show.
  1:37pm
glenn:

for some reason, the comments page doesn't keep my name in the "your name" pane anymore, and i forget to type it in every time.
  1:38pm
?:

@"other ?": that's questionable.

a deliberately typed-in question mark looks just the same as the system-generated question mark that fills in a name field left blank. only our programmer knows for sure.
  1:39pm
glenn:

neil doesn't give a shit, is the reason for that. he makes music fro himself, whereas i guarantee that mick always always always has an eye on the bottom line.
  1:43pm
Amanda:

I genuinely love it every time someone makes a Question Mark joke.
  1:44pm
?:

@glenn: are you sure that isn't your browser setting, not FMU's software? how my browser decides to default filling in the name has often changed when i have updated browser versions. i then have to go in and change the browser settings if i don't want to live with whatever it defaults to.
  1:47pm
Carmichael:

Hey, I have Spizz (Energi) on a punk comp called (I think) Punk Lost & Found. A great song from that disc is Terminal Stupid by the Sniveling Shits.
  1:47pm
glenn:

it could be, but i'm not sure how to correct it. i'm using safari. no jokes please, i like it.
  1:48pm
cheetah:

@safari: leave me the f--- alone
  1:53pm
leopard and lion:

what cheetah said
  1:56pm
Snowtorious B.I.G.:

I'll drop by at some point by March. When I get around to it.
  1:57pm
Daktari Supergrass:

Mick always has an eyen on the bottom.
Safari so good!
I'll kill that fuckin' lion.
  2:00pm
Van in Dallas:

Not squandered - invested :)
  2:00pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda, give the cricket scores!!!!!
  2:01pm
ndbob:

I need to go... excellent show Amanda - will catch the rest on the archive.
  2:02pm
Amanda:

Thanks ndbob! See yiz next time.
  2:04pm
Brian in UK:

Harkin' back Mr Fiveash, agree 'bout Stones & NY. Did the Nineties & this century exist for the Stones. Guess not. Now you can make money touring, It's different game.
  2:04pm
Skirkie:

My sister has taken to getting me handfuls of thrift store records. This year included Bob Newhart and Carly Simon.
  2:06pm
Amanda:

Ha! I hope some of them play, and are not too skippy or dirt-encrusted.
  2:16pm
efd:

Middling with the '70s! :)
  2:20pm
Brian in UK:

Got any Idle Race when Mr Lynne knew a snappy pop song. Heresy, I hear you cry.
  2:22pm
Brian in UK:

Redemption with the man from Yorkshire.
  2:23pm
Brian in UK:

Now here is some good news.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-16346354
  2:24pm
Amanda:

Gasp! Brian, you're trying to malign the album that includes "Don't Bring Me Down"!?

Looking at Nelson's Wikipedia page just now, I see that he cites Duane Eddy as an influence. There's one common thread in this show that I never thought I'd see...
  2:29pm
glenn:

i think she means you, efd.
  2:30pm
?:

oops, that was me.
  2:32pm
glenn:

har har. everybody's a comedian.
  2:32pm
Skirkie:

Oh, I had been meaning to ask what this bed music was.
  2:34pm
Brian in UK:

glenn, did you get my budgie joke yesterday?
  2:35pm
glenn:

it did suck seeds.
  2:36pm
budgie:

glenn = tough room
  2:39pm
Brian in UK:

That's a 'yes' then.

Hey, budgie, how's it hanging.

Amanda, talking of Ska, ever heard Desmond Dekker's 'Get Up Edina'? Kicking.
  2:39pm
?:

i'm here all week. try the meatloaf.
  2:41pm
budgie:

funnily, the left always hangs lower than the right

[rimshot]
  2:41pm
efd:

glenn, wait, what did I miss? Had to step away from the computer for a few minutes - and, in fact, I'm doing so again now.
  2:42pm
Amanda:

Skirkie, that last music bed was London Philharmonic orch. doing "Maybe" from Annie the musical.
  2:42pm
Brian in UK:

It's the way you tell 'em, Budg.
  2:43pm
budgie:

there are only three important things in comedy: delivery, delivery, delivery.
  2:43pm
glenn:

budgie should do a show with pigeon.
  2:43pm
Brian in UK:

My dog's got no nose
  2:44pm
glenn:

except for thefact that nico can't sing, this is a lot like shirley and dolly collins.
  2:45pm
budgie:

brutal!
  2:45pm
Brian in UK:

There is the most sublime crescent moon lying on it's back outside our window.

Sitting in the Carnegie Musem cafeteria. Listening on the iThing! Great show, Amanda.
  2:56pm
Van in Dallas:

Thanks for the nice show Amanda.

Curious - since Doug is away from his office, are you able to see what's coming up on the stream?
  2:57pm
Brian in UK:

See you in the Noo Yur. Good night most sublime crescent moon.
  2:58pm
Amanda:

Happy museumgoing, Doug!

You know, I am actually able to see what tracks are next, but it's too much work to pull up that screen right now. :-)

Happy 2012, all listeners and listenerettes! Thanks again and see you next week.
