Favoriting February 1, 2012: Really small amounts of time

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

I'll be out of the studio for the next two weeks! On a much needed vacay. After that...the marathon!!!

Track Comments Approx. start time
Jazz Loon mix   Found this tape in the wall and remixed along with a lot of early wax cylinder recordings. Opening the set with a new and improved Chartsweep, programmed by listener Fred! It's got a crossfade now between clips, and makes smarter choices about where to cut from songs.

0:00:00 (Pop-up)

250ms clips of every top 100 song from which year????   You tell me...  0:25:51 (Pop-up)
400ms clips from every #1 song from 1956-1997   See how many you can identify! According to a study at Cornell 2 years ago, you should be able to ID 25% of them...BUNK SCIENCE.  0:27:48 (Pop-up)
Collage with little pieces of silence   Samples from this cool Joan La Barbara piece you can download on WFMU's blog, from Charles Bernstein's 1-100, and from Chuck Bettis' new disc that you can download here.  0:29:42 (Pop-up)

C Spencer Yeh   Vocal pieces from a new disc called 1975 on Intransitive.  0:50:10 (Pop-up)
RP Boo     0:58:16 (Pop-up)
Vertonen   Selected tracks from the CDs Stations and Return of the Interrobang.  1:02:10 (Pop-up)
Lejaren Hiller   Wonderful computer musician, who programmed the first piece of music ever written by a computer. We'll hear Expo '85, and "An Avalanche for pitchman, prima donna, player piano, percussionist and pre-recorded playback".  1:17:40 (Pop-up)

Komar & Melamid and Dave Soldier   The Most Wanted Song and The Most Unwanted Song. Both were composed after asking a mass audience what their most/least favorite musical instruments, voices, forms and styles were. Gotta admit, I fit into the stats here.

In related news, there's an app that recently came out that "determines the X factor" of a song's possible popularity. Read about it here. Apparently when they ran top hits and not-so-top hits against the app, the computer did correspond with what songs actually hit it big.

1:48:37 (Pop-up)

Sewn Leather   Side A from his new LP Sikknastafari Slash Crasstafari on Hundebiss. Really psyched to see this one in the new bin. He's in NYC at the moment, has a show coming up at 285 Kent in Dog Leather, his duo with DJ Dog Dick.  2:18:37 (Pop-up)
Color In Absence Sound   ...is the name of this comp with a buncha noise weirdos on it. From '99, out on Hell's Half Halo. We hear Diadal, Monostat 3, ?????, Vote Robot and Glands Of External Secretion.  2:35:57 (Pop-up)
Abner Jay too slow   Cool new 12" with 2 deep cuts with my fav blues performer, the last true American minstrel. Called Hambone. Out on Social Music Club.  2:47:53 (Pop-up)

the source ov light is an energy. darkness is the lack ov said energy. as too the difference between sound and silence. a lack ov cause. etrenal is darkness/silence. cause energy is temporal.
