A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

OMPHALOS Bookshop is my suggestion...

www.utexas.edu/courses/introtogreece/lect16/img8omphalos.html

The above stone was originally placed in the heart of the sanctuary to Apollo, where the Pythia would give the god's oracles...The spot where it stood was believed to be the center of the world (hence the name omphalos, or 'belly-button'), first determined when Zeus sent two eagles from each end of the kosmos and the two then met at this location...The stone shown above originally had two golden eagles attached to its top to commemorate this tradition. In addition, the Greeks believed that the omphalos stone marked the spot where Apollo first established his oracle by driving the serpent monster Python into the Earth (=Gaia).
Why the decoration on this stone? According to ancient accounts, there was originally a different omphalos stone at Delphi, prior to the one shown here (which was made as a replacement in the 4th cent.BC). The first stone was a meteorite, and was draped in an argenon, or woven net, thus creating an effect reminiscent of woven beehives (note that bees from the Bronze Age on were a symbol of death and resurrection) and/or snake baskets (note that Python was a giant serpent). Such imagery was surely evocative of the stone's importance as a sacred marker of Apollo's victory over the terrifying serpent...

@Cecile.....nope, she's definitely not Chelsea Handler. I looked her up on the internet and they didn't look alike at all. My co-worker has tons of good ones though. Like one day out of nowhere she said "I just can't cry anymore tears" even though she hadn't been weepy at all.

How about Print on Paper for a name of a book store?

I did, and a full response is forthcoming!

"Who is more foolish? The fool, or the fool that follows the fool?"
  10:16am

Trouble, yes indeedy I rode by the little red lighthouse. And yes, there always seems to be that sound of parakeets and parrots squawking from under the overpass around 160th Street. Today was the first time I actually spotted one. Love to see them free.
Book store name - Permanent Press?
  10:17am
pierre:

@ Dave B : you're assuming right my friend ^^ it actually was my first step into this collection, since then i tried to find recorded version on 7" and Lp

@ Trouble : one day i designed a logo for a (imaginery) book stor that would sell only horror stories.
It was a tiny ghost (you know white sheet, black dot as eyes) saying "BOO" (with) ks, at the end.

You said you weren't prepared today but this is a really awesome playlist. I used to live in NJ but am in SF now, yet still love WFMU.

True story: I'm in my 40's now and was giving my mom a ride this morning and she said "this music is weird, you always liked weird music" so it's good to know, even in my 40's, that music can still piss off my parents ;)

She also said "why is this lady singing about dirty dishes?" and I almost crashed the car I was laughing so hard--keep up the good work!

There's really no need for a discussion about the technology any longer."

Sure. 500 years of printed books as massively important parts of culture and history, but don't annoy this fussmonkey by extending the change/impact discussion beyond 15 minutes or so.
