  11:14am
paul:

RIP Eric Lowen
  11:29am
glenn:

oooh. peachy.
  11:33am
Skirkie:

Wow Nimoy is worse than Shatner.
  11:36am
glennj1:

The drummer on "Highly Illogical": Hal Blaine, of course.
  11:39am
JOFF.:

HEY! Yesterday, i just wrote that statement you made about G.J on poster i made for our band!

...I think, maybe.

Glennj: what is your source?
  11:41am
glennj1:

Chris - A wild guess.
  11:43am
Skirkie:

Ouch. I do actually own Shatner records. For what it's worth.
  11:48am
DMS:

hey - lenny breau don't make the list?
  11:49am
Sean T.:

Saw Nick Lowe a few years ago at Joe's Pub. Every second he was singing the show was fantastic. The second he began to speak anecdotally between songs it was as though someone had sucked all of the air out of the room. The most droll monotone you can imagine. Bordering on a kind of unnerving performance art.
  11:53am
mrmucho:

clarence white is amazing
  11:54am
paul:

I saw Nick a few times back in the day. He was great. He's still a fantastic songwriter, but has mellowed far beyond his years.

I know our host will disagree.

paul - if you haven't
seen him recently how do you know if he's good live or not?
  11:57am
Connie T. Empress:

The GREAT Wendy Rene indeed!
  11:59am
tim from Champaign:

Currently working at a rekkid store in Champaign, IL. A smokey dokey dude just laid on me that he was in a band called Southern Threads that invented southern rock before Creedence, Also, he's related to Lita Ford and has the hots for her. Can anyone verify this?
  12:01pm
Sean T.:

Definitely a great show Mike and I will try to catch him this time around. It turns out this was now almost a decade ago but I thought he performed top notch. I just wish he would have sung the spoken parts of the show. Were you aware of the phenomenon I mentioned or was all some kind of cognitive dissonance in my head?
  12:06pm
paul:

I wasn't referring to Nick's live performances, but his recent music in general.
For the record, I have seen snippets from recent concerts, his appearance with Wilco, etc.

Michael Shelley:

Sean - I saw him both nights at Joe's Pub - and he told THE EXACT SAME stories - in the same spots, both nights! BUT I think he's generally clever in his patter. But it would be hard to ruin the music for me.
  12:09pm
DMS:

hey mike do you know who wrote "love will keep us.."?
Avatar 12:09pm
Michael Shelley:

Neil Sedaka!
  12:11pm
paul:

Toni Tennile (sp?) even sings "Sedaka's back" in the lyrics. Seems like only yesterday.
  12:14pm
DMS:

so that's what the 'shout out' at the end is for!
  12:15pm
paul:

Exactly.
  12:16pm
paul:

Plus he had a hit of his own around the same time.
  12:24pm
glenn:

meh. fred eaglesmith tells the same stories and jokes every show. everybody knows he will, and nobody cares. he puts on a great show.
  12:34pm
Sean T.:

Glenn, It wasn't so much that the stories were the same. It is the only Nick Lowe show I have been to. It was the stark disconnect between the beautiful melodic pitch-perfect delivery the words he was singing, and the droll deadpan of every word he spoke. I would love to hear a recording of that show as it still seems so bizarre to me that I question the hyperbole of my own memory.
  12:34pm
paul:

Thought you meant your laptop. That would be bad.
  12:38pm
Sean T.:

Edison Lighthouse. They were like the 3D version of the "Archies". Check out their videos of "Rosemary" on youtube. The cutest guys some studio producer could find to front his tracks. Just a little bit less real than The Partridge Family.
  12:39pm
Deepak:

great show Michael.
  12:40pm
paul:

This song is blowing my mind. Like a punk Eve of Destruction.
  12:41pm
DMS:

what is this some kind of freak out?!?
  12:41pm
glenn:

well, deadpan and british go together like.........ummm fish and chips.
  12:44pm
dag:

I would live to hear That's My Way by Charlie Rich.
  12:44pm
dag:

•love• not live, though...
  12:45pm
Connie T. Empress:

HILARIOUS! I had this Betty E cued up last night at Commodore and then switched it out: so you can play it for me! Thanks, Mike!
  12:52pm
DeemerDave:

Isn't it "Beastie Boys" not Beasty Boys?

Love Sure Shot
  12:55pm
paul:

I repeat, "He's still a fantastic songwriter."
  12:55pm
right:

Great movie, "joe" the hippies with all their orgees.2220
  1:00pm
Chonky McChonkerson:

OK, where did the "Joe" dialog come from and where can I hear more?!
