LJFW, you tricky devil!
  12:07pm
listener james from westwood:

time for my steinski-theme dance! (james brown sees me dancing from the ether; weeps)
  12:07pm
northguineahills:

Saltine crackers, I missed your show, Doug!
  12:08pm
Van in DC:

Bend over and assume the position (waiting for the archive), northguineahills.

That weird electro glitsch you're hearing is on the master, Do not adjust your machines. It won't last past this track.
  12:14pm
listener james from westwood:

all hail the electro-master!
and howdy all!

OK, mostly cleaned up and back -- I heard that, Doug! :) Thank goodness for microfiber upholstery and plastic sandals. The only casualty was our sanitation/sewer bill, but that's rubbish anyway.

Carm, if still there, I'm thinking saying rabbitx3 on the first day of a month is lucky only for those NOT born in the year of the rabbit/cat. :>

Doug Schulkind:

Hey Vicki!
  12:18pm
still b/p:

I noticed in the Howl clip that Al sounded juuuust a little like Jerry Lewis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Doug Schulkind:

All is safe, Van. No twitching body parts (are visible) over here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Doug Schulkind:

Thoughts of Jerry Lewis reading Howl will get through the rest of the day.
  12:20pm
kat330:

Oh, is that where Andy Breckman got his catchphrase from?
  12:21pm
still b/p:

The Beaty Professor.
  12:21pm
listener james from westwood:

i always imagine andy got "go to hell" from don mclean. who i hear is an asshole.
  12:23pm
kat330:

Every time I see or hear an ad for the Gutter Helmet company, I think of Andy and go to his happy place.
  12:23pm
northguineahills:

that had much flavor....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Doug Schulkind:

Great piece about McLean by Breckman in an old LCD program guide from WFMU. McLean's reputation does not escape unscathed.
  12:24pm
kat330:

Cool cover this.
  12:39pm
tshr:

Heya. Good listening. This show and previous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm

Allo, tshr!

OK, back from a meeting. Ready to ... uh, do SOMETHING ....
  12:40pm
kat330:

Right on, working for oneself!

Hello Mr. S.
  12:43pm
listener james from westwood:

must head out a bit early, but merci beaucoup for this fine show! an excellent weekend, all!
  12:43pm
kat330:

Carm, did you see my note to you @ 12:17? I think it's only fair to warn us folks. :)
  12:44pm
kat330:

Same back to you, LJfW!!
  12:44pm
Van in DC:

have a great weekend LJfW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Doug Schulkind:

Bye bye, LJ from W.
  12:48pm
tshr:

.. what he said.
  12:49pm
northguineahills:

I can't imagine the time and care that Steinski put into these shows. Frisian awesome!
  12:50pm
northguineahills:

(I don't believe Steinski is actually Frisian. [a group of islands in the NW of the Netherlands])
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Doug Schulkind:

No less than 20 hours went into each hour-long show. I worked with Steinski during this stretch and watched him do it.
  12:52pm
Carmichael:

That's your call, kat. Personally, I'd do it anyway.
  12:52pm
kat330:

Same exact thing an actor experiences what he describes here.
  12:53pm
northguineahills:

Sometimes when I improv, I have no idea what I'm doing, but that's b/c my consciousness is turned off.
  12:54pm
kat330:

@Carm: Just saying, not even 10 mins after my incantation, coffee everywhere. :) Sure it's a coincidence, and next time I'll make sure it's an inCATation.
  12:55pm
still b/p:

Was it 20 hours of Steinski assembling according to a mapped sequence/shape on paper or in mind, or trial-and-error reshuffling and choices in the moment?
  12:56pm
kat330:

@NGH: When you're in the zone of any performing, it's like an out-of-body experience.
  12:57pm
Ricardo Montalban:

This is great! Been enjoying this mix immensely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Doug Schulkind:

If the playlist doesn't make it clear enough, you are hearing Steinski read Bud Freeman's words from Studs Terkel's book "Working."
  1:00pm
northguineahills:

true,kat330, true. I need to get my cornet fixed. but one doesn't need an "instrument" to play. One show, I found some good acoustic bricks in the lot around the block from where the gig was. add contact mics, woila. I sadly lack talent, but compositional imagination, and friends who are actually technically talented, fill in the gaps.
  1:00pm
Van in DC:

I thought that voice sounded familiar ha ha
  1:00pm
kat330:

Very delightful indeed. Thanks for bringing the blend, Doug, and thanks to the blender, Steinski! Have a great weekend everybody!
  1:01pm
seang:

cool show!
  1:02pm
kat330:

And no, did not know that was Steinski reading Freeman. Thanks.
  1:02pm
northguineahills:

I liked Studs rip on Lawrence Welk......
  1:02pm
Van in DC:

Thanks Doug, Steinski. Ya'll and all ya'lls out there have a great Friday, a better weekend, and a terrific June, not to mention a fantastic rest of 2012! :)
  1:02pm
northguineahills:

I mean Bud....
  1:02pm
kat330:

I like Studs' book. :)
  1:03pm
northguineahills:

(trying to read 3 things at once)
  1:03pm
kat330:

Leave no stone unturned, Van! Same back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
Doug Schulkind:

Coming up right after Steinski, WFMU tech director is going to replace the battery back-up on the stream's server. Shouldn't lose the stream, but it you do, it won't last but a few seconds. Hang on to your socks!
