I think the same can be said for rock and pop, especially in the 70s, the whole thing, under the weight of classical prog bands etc, almost collapsed but for punk and new wave that dressed it up in a different way.

My personal opinion is that Ken Burns' film Jazz irself is the only thing potentially fatal to the music. It is a reactionary, small-minded, intolerant piece of garbage. Of course, that's just my opinion.

garbage? well I must be misinformed but there is loads on the origins of Jazz, Louis Armstrong etc that I had not seen or heard.
Although I agree that his post 60s stuff was a little hurried, and too much on Wynton Marsalis as Jazz's saviour!

Yes's Tales of the topagraphic ocean album was not that far off what we are listening to now! Or at least further on than say Fragile.

Surely worth watching for the hours of footage of Armstrong, Ellington, Charlie Parker etc.
Post 1955 stuff though I agree not interesting nor accurate.

I think the Burns museum piece of a doc was alright until it got to the late 50s. It had people believe that nothing in jazz happened after 1960.

Coming up tonight at 6pm, I will celebrate Idaho's 122nd anniversary of becoming a state by playing an hour of songs about the potato.
At 7pm, Kaminsky Kamoutsky with Jesse will hit the stream. Jesse will share the mic with the "mostly" comedy troupe Union Square Round Table!
Both shows will be LIVE on the stream!
