Amanda:

Good afternoon, listener! I hope everything is well with you, whoever and wherever you are.
  11:57am
listener james from westwood:

happy wednesday amanda! things are cool amid the july heat, work is percolating along nicely, and it's lunch and scenario time!!
  11:59am
Alf from Upstate:

Welcome back Amanda!
  12:02pm
listener james from westwood:

are we leading with a singalong?! awesome!
  12:03pm
Doug S.:

What a brilliant kick-off! Singing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
Amanda:

Hey James and Alf! Hope everyone else sang if only just a little bit.
  12:08pm
Dervish:

Singing along is mandatory.
  12:13pm
SteveL:

Wednesdays are nearly perfect radio days. Ken/Amanda/efd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Amanda:

You'd mention me in the same breath as those men? Chuffed to say the least.
  12:18pm
Dan in Seattle:

It is they who are chuffed to share the day w/you!
  12:19pm
SteveL:

I also, am chuffed at your chuffed-ness. WFMU, as a whole, is the only media that I adjust my schedule for.
  12:22pm
Chuffington Post:

What's all this chuffing about?
  12:26pm
Hilary Chuff:

Did someone call my name?
  12:26pm
listener james from westwood:

doug s in the house!
  12:29pm
Artie:

Double Drummersomeness!!
  12:30pm
listener james from westwood:

hearing 2 djs makes me want to start donating to the station.
  12:30pm
Michele:

I like the singing! Hi Amanda!
  12:31pm
Brian in UK:

Hey lets do up a London Transport bus and drive it to Athens & have adventures on the way. What do you say, Cliff? Is that the Shadows.

Have you heard The New Quirks have reformed?
  12:32pm
Artie:

When Doug sings, the phones will ring. Fundraising Gold!!
  12:34pm
listener james from westwood:

terrific news on the writing front, amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Amanda:

Yay, thanks James! And thanks Michele! :-) Hi Brian!
  12:40pm
SteveL:

All Stiff! All the time!
  12:41pm
Van in DC:

Little late, had to let the sun shine in :) Hi Amanda, Doug, GTDR streamers
  12:43pm
listener james from westwood:

my family was heavily into blue crabs. they'd either catch them or buy them live down on city island.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Amanda:

Blue crabs are no joke
  12:46pm
Doug S.:

@Artie
My not singing is worth bounteous pledges. Like the guy on the 3 Train who plays the saxophone from Mars. When he stops, everyone gives him some change.
  12:47pm
Hugo:

I love all this talk about seafood. Never lived anywhere but by the sea myself.
  12:48pm
listener james from westwood:

true that re blues. they put the crab-bag in the back seat with me on one return trip from city island, and they tipped it over and came at me. this i needed as a 4-year-old. like a friggin' lovecraft story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Amanda:

Hey Van -- you're *fashionably* late, so don't worry. @Hugo -- LUCKY! (Manhattan doesn't count as by the sea.)
  12:49pm
Doug S.:

Van is on the magic carpet, too!
  12:49pm
Artie:

Starting, stopping, it all spends. Hand-lining blue crabs off a dock w/ string and hot dog bits is a rollicking good time. Getting the little fellers up on the dock is only the beginning. Fun for all ages.
  12:52pm
Hugo:

On that score, maybe Bergen doesn't count as by the sea. Some outer islands before you fit the North Sea properly.
  1:02pm
Van in DC:

Well, one thing that changed is Amanda being there, is that right...? :)
  1:04pm
Van in DC:

Actually, I wasn't here either, last time Doug was there! I'm still such a newbie here.
  1:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh man! "Oh! You Pretty Things" sung along to! That's something to go back and listen to!

Amanda! Doug! Everyone!
  1:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Amanda's regular NYT column: "Tunes from the Dogwalker"
  1:08pm
Van in DC:

I'm with you Matt, I missed it too!
  1:09pm
SteveL:

Former cat provider. Currently a dual dog provider. Dogs FTW.
  1:10pm
Van in DC:

Did ya'll just invent a new religion? Or philosophy? Or something? :)
  1:10pm
SteveL:

Way to pick a cat fight Doug S!
  1:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cats, more importantly, all have the same "look" -- they are such an "empty vessel" to put your thoughts into, whereas the wider range of emotions dogs display suggests a more definitive message.

Similar to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuleshov_Effect
  1:12pm
Doug S.:

@SteveL
The golden rule of talk radio is to pick a polarizing issue and then pick a fight. Meow!
  1:13pm
Van in DC:

Well, that video of the puppy chasing the crab recently was cute :)
  1:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Also: Stiff Records rocks! Did you buy The Big Stiff Box Set? Most of my obscure tracks from Stiff come from a parent album titled that.
  1:14pm
Hugo:

Puppies? Got three cats in the house. Ours and the neighbours'. Must be a cat vibe about the place, I'm sure. And they're all highly different personalities! Mjaauuu!
  1:16pm
Doug S.:

We have three cats in our house, too, but my fellow two-footers have been after me to get a dog for years. I am the killjoy. Of course, if Amanda would agree to come walk the dog, well that would be another story.
  1:18pm
Hugo:

Re. Stiff: This was a good one:

Hugo and Van, the one I got was this one: www.amazon.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Amanda:

You're welcome for the longest URL in the history of Earth
  1:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thank YOU, Amanda!
That's it, that's the one! I was introduced to Lene Lovich through that box set. The Members too.
  1:24pm
northguineahills:

I had a gf a decade ago who was really into Cursive. She gave me their recs before we broke up as her music tastes were changing. Of course, I'm thinking, "Cool, free records!" I'm glad I took them.
  1:24pm
Hugo:

All the two-footers in the house are unanimous in their cat preference. The neigbours' dogs are slightly wary of the cats in the area. Wimps!
  1:25pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Amanda:

@northguineahills -- nice consolation prize! And hiya ndbob!
  1:27pm
Brian in UK:

If it ain't Stiff ............

Hugo Hands across the North Sea. Bleedin' freezin'.

Dogs seek gratification. Cats couldn't give a fuck.
  1:27pm
Everyone:

Hi ndbob!
  1:27pm
Hugo:

Amanda: Some good ones in that set. Watch out for "Cincinnati Fatback" by Roogalator on the first cd. I remember that one from the early days of Stiff. A forgotten gem!
  1:28pm
Brian in UK:

Hi Everyone.
  1:29pm
Brian in UK:

Was it Rachel Sweet that is on TV now?
  1:30pm
Brian in UK:

The poor girl must have been boggled by that UK in tour with those vandals around '79.
  1:33pm
carmichael:

Stellar setlist, Amanda. I'm in a multi-day meeting, bored out of my skull. No can hear. Must find a way to listen later.
  1:33pm
Anchovy Paste:

Dug that Blue Cheer track a few back.
  1:33pm
Hugo:

@Brian: Rainy and coldish over here, too. The Noo Joisey folks have grabbed the summer, me thinks.
  1:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

Graham Coxon's outta sight!
  1:35pm
northguineahills:

I thought I read somewhere that Graham Coxon is really into Pauline Oliveros.
  1:36pm
Brian in UK:

Carmichael, texting under the desk like skool.

Too right Hugo. You know that Stiff tour as I remember was undertaken by train. Went to places like Wick in the far north of Scotland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Amanda:

Much obliged, Anchovy Paste! Carmichael -- this is a common/annoying problem, but I'm flattered that you checked in to say hi.
  1:37pm
Parq:

Checking in from the mountain peaks, Miss 'Manda. Blur and tall pines make for a great combination.
  1:39pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda, what's you take on the new Blur 'Under the Westway'?
  1:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like quite the view, National Parq!
  1:40pm
SteveL:

I hear Doug's comp!!
  1:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Wonderful World of GTDR! A fine contribution you've both made to this wonderful, ever-growing stream!
  1:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Miscues! Wrong speeds!
  1:51pm
Brian in UK:

You cannot have 'up' without 'down'. 'Good' without 'bad' etc. That's the way the world goes round.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Amanda:

Brian in UK, I haven't heard it yet. Too busy going nowhere and doing nothing.
  1:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

WHAT DEJA VU!
I was just recently listening to the crossover episode you did with Kurt Gottschalk--you played THIS, and sang it a capella too!! And here you are hosting again with another DJ and playing it!
  1:55pm
DaveB:

"Hearts in Her Eyes" -- love this tune. Used to play it (& The Searchers version) all the time when I was a college DJ. Um, a very long time ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Amanda:

Excellent, DaveB! I love the Records version just as much...
  1:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Energetic live version!!
Since it was a Searchers song, does it say if Jackie DeShannon wrote that?
  2:00pm
ndbob:

Peggy Lee grew up around here.. I've met people who knew her when she was very young
  2:02pm
Matt from Springfield:

Great delivery from Lulu! Great backing track too!
  2:02pm
Hugo:

Lulu! That takes me back a while!
  2:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

Original composer of this song.
  2:09pm
Hugo:

Yes, Peggy Lee, of Scandinavian extraction, out of North Dakota. Those early sides with Benny Goodman, heavenly ...
  2:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

FORTY EIGHT CRASH!!!
The Cynics had a great song, but my, I love Suzi Quatro!
  2:12pm
Doug S.:

Norma Deloris Egstrom (Peggy Lee) from Jamestown, ND.
  2:14pm
SteveL:

Unleashing the beast of bass!!
  2:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

I looked up what "48 Crash" is supposed to mean--apparently it refers to old age sneaking up and crashing into you (a "48" crash)
  2:18pm
ndbob:

I need to go.. excellent show Amanda!.. I'll catch the rest later.
  2:20pm
listener james from westwood:

back from my wednesday meeting, but had the show going reeeeeal quiet in the background. i think it made for a swifter consensus.
  2:20pm
Van in DC:

Well Ken took a live phone down with him to bake more records not long ago :)
  2:20pm
ndbob:

@Doug... though Peggy actually grew up about 25 miles from here in Wimbledon, in spite of the LP title... as I was frequently reminded of when I moved here
  2:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh wow! TY Amanda!
It has such a Searchers feel, I assumed it was a cover of a mid 60s Searchers song; but a 70s comeback one, written by the Records themselves! No wonder they play it so damn great!

Will Burch-John Wicks
  2:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: Didn't need to rephrase all of that, BUT now your wisdom is Google-searchable! :)
  2:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Mobile Nazario Scenario! Here's to one day doing that!
  2:26pm
Danne D:

Yay Amanda :)
  2:30pm
listener james from westwood:

take your stinkin' paws off my radio, you damn dirty fcc!
  2:32pm

Sympathy for the Record Industry is one of those great record label names. Secretly Canadian is another. Any more?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Amanda:

I always kinda liked "Three Beads of Sweat."

I know I'm late, had to cook dinner. The Cat Stevens was my first LP bought with my paper round money in '67. Still sounds good today, better than than faux folk stuff in the 70's.
