Wow, rare Lothar & the Hand People, cool! Hope there's plenty of theremin. I may be the only person in the world happy for that, but thanks in advance Tony.

@Lonesome Cowboy Bill: Before I flipped on the playlist, I also thought it was Linda Perhacs.
Just watched the Vietnam Documentary - Ten Thousand Day War, and I believe this recording has something to do with the release of US prisoners by the NVA
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to necessary web maintenance (switching servers) the playlist page for today's show will become inoperative shortly, for up to an hour. The audio stream will continue uninterrupted -- so please keep on listening!
12:38pm
Kenzo:
We're soon going to have to put away the playlists and comments for a little while today, while we do a major website upgrade.
Once the site goes down, it will hopefully come back up after half an hour or so. Keep listening on the streams until then!
Hey BSI! There was a station server switch mid-show. I think everything is now up and running again. Or maybe it's just the two of us -- perhaps everyone else has been vaporized.
1:08pm
BSI:
aah, the Rapture. Beautiful. That means I can go free-car shopping after the show...
maxx, perhaps you can answer maestroso's question above, since we have you here!

CLOUD!
1:39pm
Lonesome Cowboy Bill:
can remember a lyric in a Simon and Garfunkel song - CLOUDY!
1:40pm
Lonesome Cowboy Bill:
Tony,
do you have a favourite Simon and Garfunkel cover version?
1:42pm
Van in DC:
(Tony did you see what I did there, sneaking in a Kate Bush reference at the opportunity? ha ha)
1:42pm
conrad:
The Cloud Nothings are big with the rock'n'roll kids these days.
1:42pm
maxx:
Hi maestroso - CLOUD which consisted of Me / Joe Petruzzelli / Michal McDermott we were a 3 piece power trio mainly a jazz rock classical thing. We were stuck in the middle of the disco scene in the 70s and fought to stay together for about 5 years. We were a musician’s band really. An interesting note Joe went on to play in The Joe Perry Project when Aerosmith broke up for a while – He did that album and toured with Perry for a couple of years. Mike went on to form Otis Gargantua.
Thank you and bless you - here is the latest stuff I do! http://soundcloud.com/maxxsongs/tracks

Ricardo Montalban:
Just as some people get nostalgic about hearing the crackle of vinyl records, I get all warm and fuzzy whenever I hear tape 'wow and flutter'.
1:50pm
conrad:
Hello, Keith Emerson, we salute you!
1:50pm
Lonesome Cowboy Bill:
Ric,
apart from the mystical name (wow and flutter like yin and yang) surely alot less exciting than Vinyl!
1:51pm
Lonesome Cowboy Bill:
if only ELP had played like this!
1:52pm
maestroso:
@maxx I know how it was back then; I was involved in several attempts at prog and remember how the disco thing really stifled things (I'm a keyboardist too).
1:54pm
maxx:
Yeah it killed us! It was still a blast to hear this stuff again - we can thank Tony for wanting me to get it to him!
1:54pm
northguineahills:
Thanks BSI! Will hit it after the show.
1:56pm
Lonesome Cowboy Bill:
Tony,
Just wondering, there was a Scottish band called Clouds signed to Island in the late 60s. I have never heard them but wondering whether you have and if they were also prog classical?
@ Lonesome Cowboy Bill: That Clouds was indeed prog classical, sort of in a Moody Blues vein. I do have one of their LPs -- haven't listened to it in quite a while, though.
@ maxx: Thanks for the great music! Now you just have to give me more of it!
2:01pm
maxx:
It was my pleasure to share it! God bless You Tony when we can do that tape transfer thing again I know there are still live recordings of us at the Hatch Shell in Boston on the Charles River!
2:02pm
BSI:
Jeezus. I missed the mic-break and intro for Goosewind but clearly this is something I need to know about.
2:03pm
Lonesome Cowboy Bill:
Goosewind remind me of DO MAKE SAY THINK, or with G-dspeed you Black Emporor, and that whole post post new rock thing or whatever it was called!
@conrad: Perhaps. Would want to get permission first, which might be hard -- but I'll see what I can do. By the by, I'm taking a break from blogging until September.
And now it's Satie's "Prelude de 'La Porte Heroique du Ciel' "
2:48pm
Van in DC:
Ah I think she used that in her Symphony in Blue track if I remember right
2:48pm
maxx:
Lothar had a keyboard that yes and the moody blues used that was actual tapes played when you played it. You would have less than 10 seconds to play it before the tape ran out and rewound to the beginning - had strings and flute stock from the Mellotron company about two octaves!
Of course what made it interesting is that it didn't really sound like strings or flute.
2:50pm
Ricardo Montalban:
That Satie Gymnopedia #3 take on this reminded me of the piece Bowie did on Low that utilized Chamberlin or Mellowtron (i"m pretty sure it was the former)
2:52pm
maestroso:
I had a Mellotron back in the day... it was somewhat delicate.
The ironic thing now is that modern sample players often have Mellotron sounds.
