Dropping by to give my customary wooooooooot...back after a meeting...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
Amanda:

Excellent. See you then.
  12:01pm
listener james from westwood:

good day, amanda, and howdy all!
  12:05pm
Van in DC:

hullo! Ah'll beeeee Bach. Must go find food. Press pause :)
  12:09pm
Danne D:

Yay Amanda :) will be back in a bit :) I have to find food too
  12:11pm
kat330:

Well, Amanda, unlike those above, I'm here with food already. No keyboard action for some while, but lovin' the rockin' sounds today!
  12:12pm
Skirkie:

Doesn't anybody use their WFMU apps when they go get food?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Amanda:

Apps are too frightening for the mixed company at the deli. Hi everyone!
  12:22pm
kat330:

The bigger question for me is, doesn't anyone MAKE and take their lunches to the job anymore? So much healthier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Amanda:

And cheaper, but you didn't hear it here.
  12:23pm
northguineahills:

The VU fits well w/ the muggy weather.
  12:23pm
pgw in mntclr:

"someone nudge lou and tell him to say 'sweetly'"
  12:24pm
kat330:

Yep, the cheaper got the ball rolling, and then the healthier results kept it in motion. Philo (JT) gets a lovingly packed lunch to take to work everyday. :)
  12:24pm
kat330:

How'd that Wookie get in the studio?
  12:24pm
northguineahills:

Depends on the job. My last one I was working 60-80 hours/week, so I never had time to make a lunch the night before. However, when working a 40/hr week, I always try to make lunch for the next day.
  12:26pm
Skirkie:

I make things for lunch and then forget about it and leave it at home.
  12:27pm
kat330:

@NGH: That's what a partner's (can be) for. :)
@Skirkie: Sounds like a subconscious sabotage.
  12:31pm
Danne D:

people don't pay attention to pedestrians where I am Skirkie - I need to be alert.
  12:33pm
kat330:

Link Wray + Velvet Underground here. Captain Beefheart on Duane earlier... He may get a home-made lunch, but Philo can't listen to FMU or GTDR while at work, and he'll regret that today in particular.
  12:33pm
Danne D:

yay :)
  12:35pm
northguineahills:

Not when your partner is working an even more hectic schedule then you are. Of course, I have plenty of free time now.
  12:35pm
Van in DC:

Sigh. Didn't work. Couldn't be Bach. But at least I found food
  12:37pm
kat330:

I understand, ngh. Both of us used to have such hectic schedules, too, so I tried cooking and preparing as much for the whole week on Sundays. Usually worked out pretty well.
  12:38pm
Van in DC:

I pretty much don't cook by the way.
  12:38pm
kat330:

@Van: NO one can be Bach. A singular genius.
  12:39pm
kat330:

@Van: How could you have time? You're always moving! ;)
  12:39pm
Van in DC:

ha!

Hello Amanda, will not be writing that for a while when you are on sabbatical.

Meeting finished. Ready for rock.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Amanda:

Still a few weeks until the sabbatical -- enjoy them while you may!

@Brian, not sure which fake band the Turtles were for that particular one. Super deluxe prize for anyone who can name them all.
  12:45pm
kat330:

@Amanda: Remembered the sabbatical is September, but aren't you going to Maine? Somehow I thought that was happening right after Doug returned.
  12:47pm
kat330:

QotSA! I thought I was really alone in liking them -- cool! Their lead giant is, um, a literal hunk IIRC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Amanda:

Josh Homme. A friend of mine loves him too. What is he, just a piece of meat????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Amanda:

I will be in Maine on the 22nd, then back for a week, then gone for 1000 years, then back.
  12:53pm
Van in DC:

That will seem like a millenia around here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
Amanda:

Nah, you'll forget you ever knew me
  12:54pm
kat330:

OK, got it. Putting the cart before the horsemeat, I *did* groove on the QotSA sound before I ever had a visual bead. The giant is just icing on the cake. ;)
  12:55pm
Danne D:

what is this about a sabbatical? 8(
  1:00pm
Doug S.:

Hiya Ammy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Amanda:

Hi Doug!
  1:03pm
Van in DC:

This would NOT be the set that Ken misplaced earlier, I'm guessing :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Amanda:

Van -- I don't think so? Unfortunately I rarely get to hear his show live, as you can imagine.
  1:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

AmNazz on the NazzScen! Hiya!
(Good, didn't miss the sing-along!)
  1:08pm
kat330:

This Ferro is a new one on me. A very pleasant vocal.
  1:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

Such a Dusty like vocal!
  1:10pm
kat330:

Ahhhh.... wonderful.... song and singer.... mmmmmm.... Singing along very softly..
  1:11pm
Van in DC:

I suddenly really feel like slow dancing.
  1:13pm
kat330:

Female power vocals set -- love it! Thanks, Amanda!
  1:13pm
Van in DC:

And by really feel like, I mean I really wish I WAS...

Loving it, Amanda :)
  1:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Smoky classic love songs set you've got!
  1:18pm
Van in DC:

Hmm...last time I heard finger snapping in a tune...can't...quite...remember...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Amanda:

Songs with crying in them are the best.
  1:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

The great Freda Payne! Love her!
  1:24pm
G:

Don't fall for someone who wants to sleep in separate rooms, honey!!!
  1:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: Obviously don't wait for your wedding night to find that out about a partner...
  1:26pm
G:

Duh!!! :-)
  1:30pm
Danne D:

What a delightful set, Amanda :)
  1:31pm
Van in DC:

In your mind, and in your soul :)
  1:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thank you Amanda--when playing singles, I think it's proper for DJs to inform us of what's on the flip side of a record.
  1:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Never thought about the lounge singer dog in Lady And The Tramp, makes sense that would be Peggy Lee! Thanks, new info learned!
  1:40pm
Van in DC:

Nice ♫♫♫s that last set was!
  1:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Glad to see that Brooklyn neighborhood is so spirit-lifting! :)
  1:43pm
Van in DC:

ǝpıs dılɟ 's rock :)
  1:43pm
Daniel:

Angel is an evergreen. PP Arnold would be right at home in today's show. So glad I tuned in.
  1:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Well shucks, Amanda, I LIKE YOU too! And so does EVERYONE else here!

Chip Taylor--great songwriter of the 60s. Have you ever heard Evie Sands' version of "Angel of the Morning"? That was actually the first to be released, but the record label when out of business and her single was left stranded.
  1:45pm
kat330:

Amanda, speaking of dogs and lowliness, once upon a time I took shelter for a night in a doghouse (albeit one big enough for me & my guy in sleeping bags). And then in L.A. I had a PT job at a training kennel for Rottweilers -- shit-shoveling, bath-giving in the heat of summer. I can aver it's the simple things that bring joy in one's life.
  1:48pm
kat330:

Oh, wow... sad, sad....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
Amanda:

@Daniel -- What kind words! Thanks for that, and thanks for listening.

Kat -- yep, the Rottweiler job sounds like my life, heh
  1:49pm
northguineahills:

This Charlie Ross song is so creepy.
  1:50pm
Van in DC:

Yes, the simple things. Like, for example, a couch. Which I'll finally have tomorrow for the first time in three years. SOO looking forward to that!
  1:50pm
kat330:

Swingin' '70s -- so sad...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Amanda:

@northguineahills, that shows you're paying attention. :-)
  1:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yep, was very sure I'd heard this from Joe McGasko before--this type of country is right up his alley! :)
  1:51pm
kat330:

Yes, ngh, couldn't agree more. Somehow I thankfully missed it in original radio play.
  1:53pm
kat330:

@Van: Guess the mere thought of your new sofa has made you very typographically creative today. :)
  1:55pm
Van in DC:

ha, yes :)

Ironically, kat, you were quite right before about all my moving. SO much so over the past three years that I still have virtually everything I own in storage in Atlanta...for three years now. Including kitchen table and couch.
  1:58pm
kat330:

So are you in the witness protection program or somethin'? I should talk. I once counted just under 40 household moves in my lifetime. No fun whatsoever. One of the high stressors.
  2:00pm
Van in Arlington:

Who, me? nahhh, just move a lot :)
  2:00pm
kat330:

Tell us a story, Amanda!!
  2:01pm
Van in Falls Church:

40? Wow! That's a lot!
  2:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

All segues should be *crisp*: cleaned, AND starched as well.
  2:03pm
kat330:

A ridiculous lot. And since we still rent -- never owned in my life -- clearly there is at least one more move yet to come, sigh. I read something about a woman in Manhattan who lived *in the same apartment for over 100 years" ! Can't fathom that.
  2:06pm
G:

@kat: I'm guessing the rent control laws caused that. Back in the 1940s-80s, once people got a way below market rent in NYC, they almost only ever left feet first...
  2:07pm
Van from Texas:

I owned just once kat...a huge McMansion in a northern ATL suburb which I ended up foreclosing on when I was laid off years ago...three years ago...which started my current migrations...
  2:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Really? Even out in presumably less expensive Indiana? It would be a good investment to buy something rather than pay rent forever, but without a down payment it's impossible to take that first step...
  2:09pm
Skirkie:

I thought you meant that Wolfie was nominated for a bunch of awards, and that it was good for Wolfie's career, as a dog.
  2:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: Parlaying a swell dogsitting gig into a swell housesitting gig! Way to go!
  2:10pm
Van who was in Dallas:

That's what I thought also
  2:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Skirkie: Nowadays even dogs can't neglect their professional development you know... ;)
  2:12pm
kat330:

@Matt: The story is too long and boring on why my timing and the rest of the economy is never in sync. When it actually became feasible to buy, we would have been way over our heads, so glad we dodged that bullet. Then when my parents passed within a year of each other, I certainly didn't want to buy because I want to *get out of here* -- but Philo's FT keeps us here. Caught in a weird economic trap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Amanda:

Wolfie is up for a bunch of awards in: cuteness, eccentricity, being a little bastard, food solicitation
  2:14pm
SteveL:

Listening to stay awake during a Webinar. (got a nice nap yesterday!)
  2:16pm
kat330:

We recently watched the Pixies' doc, loudQUIETloud.
  2:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Like this Frank Black--his "voice" is a lot like Springsteen.

The Doggie Food Solicitation Awards -- I'd much rather watch that on TV than the Westminster Dog Show! Trying to determine which dog is the best at "soliciting" food. Points for: subtlety, sneakiness, originality, cuteness of approach, and speed in procuring the food :)
  2:18pm
kat330:

You guys getting any rain up there, SteveL? We're not as drought-y as points west and north of us, but we sure could use more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Amanda:

Welcome, SteveL! Hope you are not lulled to sleep by this stuff.
  2:23pm
kat330:

For you, Van! ;)
  2:24pm
Van back in DC:

Yay! :)
  2:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

ASTRAL WEEKS! Yay! :D
  2:28pm
Van back in DC:

oh before I forget, I left you a note on Doug's playlist from yesterday, kat :) (caught up on archive this morning)
  2:29pm
kat330:

Ah, OK. On my way...
  2:32pm
kat330:

Yes, somehow or other I'd heard you were a clean mouth. But knowing dc pat can sure have a potty mouth -- hey, so can I, much more in real life than on the boards here -- I guessed DC correctly. [BTW, that question was from the WhadYaKnow WPR online.]
  2:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

Groovy cover--love the Meters in general, but this in particular is top notch!
  2:34pm
kat330:

Kinks! Maybe I've written it here before, but the first single I can recall buying as a barely teen was the Kinks' "All Day..."
  2:40pm
listener james from westwood:

aaaa stupid conference calls ... will look forward to listening to this show in a single shot from archives. gotta get those calls moved out of gtdr time!
  2:41pm
Van in DC:

So I'm "working from home" tomorrow due to couch delivery. Hmmm. I sense an impending nap coming my way...after couch touch down :)
  2:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, I've heard this song before, but didn't know the Detroit Cobras did it.
  2:44pm
kat330:

That one Breakaway riff there reminds me of the Waitresses.
  2:49pm
Doug S.:

@LJFW
I feel bad for the poor conference calls. They spend so much time away from home. Hard working and little appreciated. At least their mums love 'em, eh?
  2:50pm
northguineahills:

Got some breathing room w/ my benefits being extended. Now I can go back to focusing on my freelance proposal (working on a new paradigm for aggregating crowd-sourced spatial data), since the traditional path to employment isn't bearing fruit.
  2:51pm
Van in DC:

Amanda, which show will you be filling in for, with the soul stuff?
  2:53pm
kat330:

So many good people un- and underemployed. Hey, ngh, I'll be thinking positive thoughts and send them your way }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
  2:54pm
Danne D:

will have to recatch the last hour or so as I got pulled away :(

Thanks for all you do Amanda :D
  2:54pm
SteveL:

Kat (sneaking away from training) we've had 2-3 good rains in the past week and a half. Not so drought-y now, although corn crops are pretty well shot.
  2:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Best of luck with that NGH!
I suppose you would work with companies' user-submitted spatial data from their apps, and organize that into something they can use?
  2:56pm
Danne D:

YAY :D
  2:56pm
northguineahills:

Thanks kat! I appreciate it!
Amanda, you filled my afternoon w/ joy as always.!
  2:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Alright! Downtown Scenarioulville!
I'll make sure to listen in!
  2:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Am I correct in guessing your concluding bed music is an instrumental of "Alone Again, Naturally"?
  2:58pm
Van in DC:

Thanks Amanda!
  2:59pm
kat330:

Thank you for a tops top-o'-the-month Scenario, Amanda!

For some reason, I really feel like taking a nap now... G'bye, folks, and enjoy some simple pleasures! :)
  2:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Fantastic show as always Amanda! Thank you much!
  2:59pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

BLERG! Just woke up.
  3:01pm
northguineahills:

@Matt: Yes, However, it's not just the data captured, but the units in which it is aggregated. As someone who worked for the Census Bureau for 4 years, I always felt that the census block was inadequate for representing and analyzing demographic and other spatial data.
