Have I hit "commenteers vacation week"? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm
efd:

It would appear so!
  9:17pm
G:

AC/DC went to school with Humble Pie.
  9:17pm
G:

Figuratively, I mean. Taught 'em almost everything they knew!
  9:19pm
Kat in Chicago:

I actually did think this was AC/DC for a sec!
  9:28pm
G:

Maybe this Denny M. is the good luck charm for Detroit to sweep the Yanks tonight :-) Always heard about this album, never heard it till now...
  9:34pm
Danne D:

Hey EFD, Hey Funk Fans.

Denny McLain is still alive. And remarkably not in jail right now.

He's sort of the last generation's answer to Lenny Dykstra.
  9:36pm
Holly in NC:

Tardy. & forgot homework, back asap
@G not nice! :)
  9:44pm
G:

I had to check the Yanks game after writing that. While you were playing that Denny McLain and his organ, the Yanks were having their worst defensive inning in awhile. They blew an 8-3 lead they took into the 7th, and are now only a run ahead. Behold the power of the playlist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
efd:

wow, I'm gonna play Denny McLain all night long now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
efd:

(sorry Holly)

(not really sorry)

That was Yankees' revenge right there.

Life is all about the segue, or it is about nothing!
  9:52pm
G:

Boy, is *this* the 70s. I was in high school in Brasil at the time, and even down there this tune was on the radio almost hourly.
  9:56pm
PB:

There seems to some kind of movement afoot to "rehabilitate" McCartney's solo career. Why bother, it was putrid then and it's putrid now. Exactly one decent song in his entire solo career: Too Many People. That was it.
  9:56pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Evan and all the listeners.
  10:00pm
Danne D:

Hi there Richard. Enjoying the Olympics?
  10:01pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Danne D. Yes. Gold in fencing :D
  10:01pm
Michele:

Okay - gonna try again Evan - how about Misty Eyes (Richard Lloyd)?
  10:03pm
G:

@PB: I wasn't a solo McCartney fan back then either, but my guess is that Paul's response to the "fluff" accusation was: I look around me and I see it isn't so...
  10:03pm
Trouble In Mind:

EVAN - Paperhead LP is the UK reissue of their first tape that we also reissued Stateside last year! You own it!
  10:07pm
john:

Wait, the one song where you can hear Linda sing is Paul's only good one? I'll never get the outsider art aesthetic. Thank G-d.
  10:07pm
PB:

It is still amazing to me how fast Sir Paul lost it. It took Lennon a year or two and George was done after All Things Must Pass but McCartney completely lost it immediately after the Beatles broke up.
  10:07pm
menefreghista:

@G: have you listened to the RAM record? its pretty fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
efd:

T_I_M - aha! I did not catch that - thanks for the tip!

Michele, coming right up!
  10:10pm
Trouble In Mind:

EFD - you heard the RAM reissue in mono? It RULES & definitely sounds different!
  10:12pm
john:

Well, let's just be grateful that Ringo is still making truly genius music that puts them all to shame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
efd:

@PB, I've come around on some McCartney/Wings songs, but I have to say "Too Many People" isn't one of them. You're all just lucky I didn't bust out my Suzy & the Redstripes single!
@T_I_M, I think we got that here but I didn't get a chance to give it a good listen. Will put it on my list.
  10:14pm
SmokinJ:

efd: Diggin' the set tonite. All the best from the Brew City!
  10:18pm
Michele:

yuv the dBs! thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
efd:

thanks SmokinJ! You're welcome, Michele, and greetings to john, menefreghista, Richard, Danne, Joe D and will!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
efd:

Danne, kindly refrain from long comments with no spaces during tonight's show. ;)
  10:21pm
Destroit:

hello efd and errbody. Danne, love the Denny/Lenny comparison... made me crack up :)
  10:22pm
G:

@menefreghista: One of the first 45's I bought as a wee boy was "Uncle Albert". I even bought "Give Ireland Back to the Irish" when I lived in the UK because the BBC banned it and I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

But by the 73-74-75 era we prog kids saw Band on the Run as schlock pop for our sisters and other "knuckledraggers". :-) I'm more openminded now, though... :-)
  10:23pm
Holly in NC:

Did y'all realize that my earlier comment was my 1st text EVER? Finally retired the gallant erickson flip phone.

@G & EFD - playlist power indeed ;-)

@PB - I respectfully disagree. And sure Ram & McCII are hip now, but I still personally roll with Silly Love Songs & Let 'em In .

Efd - the dbs-pujol play was inspired
  10:25pm
Michele:

vintage dBs - Big Brown Eyes
  10:25pm
Danne D:

@efd I learned my lesson.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS...oops I DID
  10:27pm
Danne D:

congrats on the new phone. It will confused and irk you for a while probably (still getting used to mine).

Is that Food Bed Michele? Trying to keep track the celebrities around here. Bummed the dBs are playing on a completely useless date for me.

Thanks for you usual great show Evan. Goin' light on the comments tonight.
  10:29pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne - So far only irked that I can't find smiley face nose!
  10:31pm
Michele:

no celebrity here Danne D. just a fan. wish I was in town for the Maxwells dBs show, but I'm out west - listening in from LA.
  10:31pm
Herb Jue:

If I had a nickel for everytime dB's were mentioned in Jesse Jarnow's YLT book, I'd be rich!
  10:32pm
Danne D:

Greetings Michele - there's a Michele (aka Food Bed) that is Frangry's co-host on Shut Up Weirdo on Fridays. She spells her name the same way as you hence my momentary confusion.
  10:33pm
Holly in NC:

Also, can any Android 'fmu app users tell me how ro close said app without shutting off the phone? #notintuitive
  10:34pm
Danne D:

@Holly wish I knew that myself. What kind of phone did you get?
  10:37pm
Michele:

Danne D - yes, we're a rare breed the one 'l' michele. good to 'meet' you.
  10:37pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne - Samsung Galaxy something - free with Credo contract. It's really cool!
  10:38pm
PB:

Speaking of disappointing solo careers, my vote for most disappointing (by a country mile) is Richard Ashcroft. Honorable mention to all Beatles (with possible exception of Lennon), Jagger and Marty Balin.
  10:39pm
john:

Holly, some Android apps don't want to be shut down. For those pesky kids, there's an app called Advanced Task Killer which will shut down the unshutdownables. Of course, you have to run another app to do it, but that's the price we pay for multitasking!
  10:40pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Holly. I tried going to settings -> apps -> wfmu -> force close.
  10:40pm
Holly in NC:

Hi one-'l' Michele! One of my best friends is a one 'l', I am always very careful to check. I also hang with an EriKa. And I immediately intensely dislike anyone who addresses me as Hollie :-)
  10:40pm
Michele:

kidda band - great song!
  10:42pm
Michele:

hey Holly - glad you get it.
  10:44pm
Holly in NC:

@Eichard - "force stop" here, but I see. Pesky. But the app itself is brilliant, wow.
Oh hey, Sonny & the Sunsets on Terre T soon!
  10:45pm
Danne D:

Guessing you have a galaxy 2 Hollie er Holly :o) i went crazy and got the galaxy 3

I barely can figure out my own phone and the 4 trillion aps out there so i am probavly not much help
  10:45pm
Holly in NC:

Playlist power....
  10:48pm
Holly in NC:

@Danne - I lied. Samsung Conquer 4G. It's supposedly not high end, but to me it seems like a miracle device!
  10:48pm
Destroit:

Sonny/Dallas combo is nice.
  10:51pm
G:

Evan shoulda kept playing Denny -- the Yanks went from up 7-0 pre-Denny, to up 8-3 in the 7th pre-Denny, to up 8-7 with the Tigers having two on base during Denny, to winning 12-8 in the end, post-Denny. Oh well, the Yanks couldn't keep losing every night! :-)
  10:55pm
Destroit:

Interesting game Tonight G,
  10:56pm
Holly in NC:

Hi Destroit!
  10:59pm
G:

If the Yanks hadn't won tonight, Destroit, they'd have been only 3-1/2 up on Baltimore, who they were 10 games up on less than two weeks ago...
  11:00pm
Destroit:

Helllooo Holly! New phone, glad you have it. I've been exploring your city, having fun. Digging Rockford for eats.
  11:05pm
Ike:

I'm busting out laughing every time Evan nonchalantly says, "Oh hey Justine." Excellent timing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
efd:

well, there's something I haven't done in a while.
  11:11pm
Roberto:

There he goes singing about how much he loves his lease again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
efd:

@Ike, I'm so glad you appreciated that.

Greetings Destroit, and happy new phone Holly!
  11:11pm
Holly in NC:

@Destroit - I rarely get to Raleigh to eat, have never been to Rockford! Raleigh does have a lot of great restaurants, but I can walk to a lot of great restaurants in Durham :-)
  11:15pm
Roberto:

Maybe he's got a new leash on life.
  11:17pm
Aharon:

Another monster hit from Mean Magic. They deserve to be on dozens--hundreds!--of CD-Rs around the country, rather than high single digits.
  11:19pm
Danne D:

Trader Aharon! You gonna get to the top, man?
  11:20pm
Danne D:

Glad you're having fun with the new phone Holly!
  11:20pm
Fiveash:

Hullo Evan! Sorry to have missed a selection from 30-game winner/degenerate gambler/competent organist Denny McLain.
  11:21pm
Aharon:

Probably not, Danne, but I will use crazy accounting tricks to retroactively prove that I did.
  11:22pm
Danne D:

I wonder if Ken is still in constraints at the UCB
  11:24pm
Aharon:

@Danne. Or else I can go all high road and claim it's an honor just co compete.

When we left the UCB today Ken was unconstrained, wild-eyed and, disconcertingly, eating sauceless cold McNuggets.
  11:25pm
Danne D:

you're a braver man that I am, Aharon
  11:26pm
Aharon:

I have also been eating foul-tasting foods for weeks. So the joke would have been on him.
  11:27pm
Fiveash:

Evan, on an Upper Crust-related note, did you know the Flies recently did a reunion show at Johnny D's in Somerville? There's some clips up on youtube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
efd:

Hey Aharon, nice to see you here! And ditto to you, Fiveash! You'll have to check the archive for that Denny McLain selection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
efd:

@Fiveash I didn't hear about that! I'll search out those clips.
  11:30pm
Danne D:

Damn Scutaro has 7 RBI. Lucky pickup that was.
  11:31pm
Aharon:

Hi, Evan! A pleasure as always to listen/lurk.
  11:41pm
Richard from Venezuela:

@Danne D: Venezuelan Scutaro? Great baseball player
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm

Richard, that's him! He had some good years with the Red Sox and Blue Jays.
  11:48pm
Fiveash:

"Mahco Scutaro", as Jerry Remy would say.
  11:48pm
Fiveash:

or "Mahc Bolan".
  11:49pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Butt kickin t rex.

Thanks to Richard for Scutaro :)
Thanks for a great show EFD. Take care!
