This penultimate installment of Steinski is in fact my own ultimate installment; I'm taking a long weekend at the beach next Friday and will miss the festivities and good people here.
Very glad to have caught these Steinski episodes though, and to take them in live as Doug replayed them and breathed fresh new life into these gems. Now we have Archives for all of them, but the live experience is so fun!
12:13pm
Matt from Springfield:
MIKE Nichols and comedic partner ELAINE May, first time I've heard an audio routine of theirs.
Well Matt, keep your ears on for some MORE Nichols & May!
12:20pm
Matt from Springfield:
I've read about their stage routines, never had the pleasure of hearing them perform. Ears are peeled.
And, at least I can listen to the other Steinski episodes I missed after GTDS now! I'm looking forward to that, plus I can pause and go back with Archives!
I was never a big Horne tooter. I always found it disconcerting how she could sing with out really opening her mouth that much. At least it sounded that way to me.
12:56pm
Matt from Springfield:
@kat: There was a song title "Sesame Street" from reggae singer Scotty mentioned :)
GREAT Stovall Sisters version of this!
12:58pm
kat330:
Well, I didn't want to say it, but yeah, I've heard better versions of Stormy Weather than Lena's there.
@Matt: Ah, OK. Actually glad I took a quick peek at GTDS. Apparently I missed a chance to wish LJfW a HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! [hope he'll see that]
I think many, including Steinski, would call Horne's "Stormy Weather" as the iconic version. Not so much me.
1:01pm
kat330:
Sadly I don't even know the name of the singer I saw live in an L.A. lounge about about 30 years ago who opened the skies with her Stormy Weather -- never heard it so good.
1:03pm
Stanley:
Zowie indeed! Thanks Doug. See ya later.
1:03pm
kat330:
Well, seems like I barely sat down, took a single sip of my self-served joy juice and now I have to be off.
TY Steinski and, as always, TY Doug for bringing this to us!
Safe weekends and be good, all!
1:05pm
Matt from Springfield:
"Electronic address"--that dates the program!
Thanks Steinski and Doug for this vibrant series of shows! I've really enjoyed these and I'm sure all of you have as well. Bye Doug, kat and everyone, and have a great weekend!
