Listener comments!

  11:03am
Bob:

Where is the Redd Kross? Wait...there it is.
  11:05am
David from NJ in ATL:

This might be a record for lead off tracks played for a # of weeks in a row. Great song!
  11:09am
tomB:

Redd Kross's equivalent of "Cherry Blossom Clinic"
  11:14am
Bob:

Thanks for the link to that Nick piece. I love the bit about Bob Marley messing up reggae music. He's right!
  11:17am
David from NJ in ATL:

Drums for Los Straitjackets now.
  11:22am
Minnesota Jeff:

Did Mike Love ever make a solo record?
  11:30am
Mike East:

I heard Mike Love kicked Brian Wilson among others off the tour...citing financial motivation.
  11:34am
scott:

Don't believe everything you read, Mike. Nobody kicked anybody out of anything. The end of the reunion tour, I believe, was this weekend at Wembley. All that happened was that Mike booked tour dates for his other band, which is a completely separate entity from the real Beach Boys, with different personnel. He pays a licensing fee to bill his touring band as the Beach Boys, but they are not the actual Beach Boys and no one pretends that they are (except for Mike, maybe).
  11:36am
Mike East:

thanks for clarification, scott.
  11:40am
Mike Sin:

Can't figure out all the media attention to Mike Love "firing" the Beach Boys -- The tour dates for Mike Love's version of the band have been up on hiis website since August or so... His version was scheduled too continue long before the real reunion ended..
  11:40am
Mike East:

the article did imply that it was a shock to Wilson that Love booked a tour without him and he seemed kinda bummed....but you're right, I shouldn't believe everything I read.
  11:44am
terrry:

Blue turns to gray--haven't heard that in eons--thanks!
  11:45am
scott:

The Wilson camp seems to be pushing the "firing" story and the press seems to be uncritically reporting their version of things. Apparently Brian, Al and David wanted to talk about booking another reunion tour, but it's not surprising that Mike would prefer to work the oldies/casino/state-fair circuit with a band where he gets to be the boss and he doesn't have to split the take. It would have been nice to see him do the classy thing, but c'mon, he's Mike Love, so what do we expect?
  11:45am
scott:

Cripes, am I really defending Mike Love? Curse you, internet!
  11:56am
Minnesota Jeff:

The sticking point for me with the Mike Love / Reunion issue, is him claiming that he doesn't want to spoil the BEACH BOYS with overexposure ... but him touring with the Mike love version won't? No one would prefer this other version of his.
  11:57am
Minnesota Jeff:

He also made some b.s. reference to the Eagles over touring at one point and having to sell tickets for $5.00
  12:17pm
Bob:

Any Eagles tour is over touring. Screw those asshats.
  12:20pm
?:

HEY MICHAEL,
I dont think i properly said THANKYOU big enough for having me on yr show and playing all our records and well, everything really...
THANKYOU M. SHELLEY!
THANKYOU WFMU!
LOVE
JOFF!
  12:23pm
scott:

Jeff, it's not exactly news that Mike (Love, not Shelley) is a small-minded philistine egomaniac, so it seems a little pointless to get overly upset about it at this late date. Part of the experience of being a Beach Boys fan is watching them shoot themselves in the foot on a regular basis. It was a wonderful miracle that the reunion tour came together and was as good as it was, and we should be thankful that they were able to hold it together for an entire tour. For better or worse, Mike has been touring with his oldies band for the past dozen years, and—as nice as it would have been if he'd taken a year off and done another proper reunion tour—it doesn't seem unreasonable for him to want to go back to his fulltime job, whatever we may think of it.
  12:31pm
Minnesota Jeff:

That Bucky version of "Band of Gold" is real good.
  12:34pm
~L:

Send Joan Jett a message through that large social networking site.

ChooChoo - ATL:

Cheap Trick "I Want You To Want Me:" This is the second version without strings we have heard, this week's and last week's, yes?
  12:39pm
Minnesota Jeff:

Ooo, the limp Studio version!
  12:41pm
Mike East:

thanks for the Cheap Trick. I've been curious since last week's discussion.

Jeff - I love that version - dont be rude
  12:43pm
?:

Joan Jett is playing First Energy Park in Lakewood tonight. George Clinton is on the bill too
  12:46pm
Minnesota Jeff:

The studio version isn't terrible, its just a shock to hear it when the live version is branded into your brain. It just doesn't have the blood of the Live version.
  12:49pm
Mike East:

@MN Jeff. They take it a lot faster in the Live version. The studio version has that "Mr. Blue Sky" hard downbeat thing goin' on. I dig it. I have a song that utilizes that same vibe. But I agree, the live version, unsurprisingly, has more energy.
  12:51pm
Minnesota Jeff:

This song is soooooo goooood, gives me a chill.
  12:51pm
David from NJ in ATL:

I'm glad you liked "Searching for Sugar Man" I was afraid you might give it a thumbs down. Don't know why. The movie is great!
  1:01pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

That phone call bit was highly disturbing and rather sad. I hope things turned out all right.
  1:01pm
DG:

In answer to a question above, Love released one solo album about 30 years ago, "Lookin' Back with Love." Mostly covers, including an ABBA tune. He may have done some solo soundtrack stuff too.
  4:32pm
Bob:

Mike love has various solo Christmas tracks on comps and some soundtrack stuff as Mike Love and Friends.
