Listener comments!

  11:56am
listener james from westwood:

does it get better than jazz and a clear autumn monday? no. it does not. welcome back, fellas!
  12:00pm
Dervish:

Church of Coltrane, Amen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
Jeff G:

Thanks, listener james! Hope we can live up to the hype.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm
Jeff G:

Let us pray, Dervish.
  12:02pm
Anne R.:

Oh yeah!
  12:11pm
North Fork:

Miles Davis named a track after Willie Nelson, so why not Parker Posey?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Jeff G:

Exactly, North Fork. In fact, had Willie cued up, but there isn't room for it.
  12:15pm
Carmichael:

Good morning, everyone.
  12:15pm
North Fork:

I thought you were going to say, "I had Willie cued up, but he dashed outside for a quick toke."
  12:15pm
Carmichael:

Could our next track be called Molly Ringwald??
  12:16pm
listener james from westwood:

Morning, Carmichael, and good day to all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Jeff G:

Carmichael: I wish.
  12:24pm
Doug S.:

Paul Bley's track "Ida Lupino" would fit in nicely with this set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Jeff G:

Oooh, yeah. Forgot about that one! Not to mention "Oni Puladi"
  12:28pm
northguineahills:

Threadgill, nice.....
  12:30pm
Anchovy Paste:

I just LOVE Luap Nosebor. Especially her early films.
  12:31pm
Doug S.:

Wow, there's a Volume 2?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Jeff G:

Three tracks from an unreleased session that Cuscuna put on the Mosaic box: www.mosaicrecords.com...$136.00&copies=8%20CDs
  12:35pm
Dan in Seattle:

8 CDs = like
$136 = not like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
Jeff G:

Amen, Dan. We have our own selfish reasons for running a jazz blog, after all... ("Sure, we'll run a contest to give away a box set...for the price of...A BOX SET.")
  1:12pm
george from Romania:

can't wait for Wadada & Mr. Moholo recording, thanks for the preview! amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Jeff G:

Hey, george. Glad you are enjoying! The whole album is really wonderful.
  1:18pm
duke:

The stove guy is finally gone, so now I can listen to you guys cook.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Jeff G:

Hey, duke! What -- the stove guy prefers Irene's show?
  1:24pm
duke:

The stove guy prefers selling stoves - no music of any kind involved. I doubt if he could even hum.
  1:31pm
Doug S.:

How did MGJ's "Clarity" end up on ESP? I have an original copy on Bija Records. Did Bernie Stollman buy the rights?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
Jeff G:

Uh.....
  1:36pm
Doug S.:

This AAJ review — http://bit.ly/VygnAN — calls it an "ESP licensed reissue."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Jeff G:

Works for me!
  1:43pm
Brian in UK:

Gadzooks!! Is there a Rufus T Firefly comp around?
  1:49pm
Brian in UK:

Dare I ask what happened to WHEN?
Sorry that's NOW. Still smelling that country air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Jeff G:

Hm. No time for WHEN, Brian!
  1:56pm
northguineahills:

So, whos and wheres ares theses Arts and Scienceses, Tre nice....ssssssssssss
  1:56pm

Brian in UK:

Just bought a double CD of JC Quartet 'Complete Copenhagen Concert 1962' JC, Tyner, Garrison & Jones. Looking forward to getting stuck in. Came out in 2010.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Jeff G:

Yeah, that was a pretty good band, Brian.
  2:11pm
duke:

Just ran across this ‘Impressions of John Coltrane’: 3 vintage TV performances http://bit.ly/QkQFMr
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Jeff G:

Thanks, duke!
  2:24pm
Catherine:

This is exceptionally beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm
Jeff G:

Agreed, Catherine. Though not well-received in its day! E.g.: www.allmusic.com...
  2:32pm
Catherine:

Haters gonna hate. Lovers gonna love.
  2:33pm
Michael Pollak:

Great Coltrane set, esp. the last cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Jeff G:

Thanks, Michael! Glad you enjoyed. Hard to go wrong, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Jeff G:

Realizing kinda late that Coltrane and Cherry also recorded "Focus on Sanity." Ah, well.
  2:37pm
Doug S.:

Oh there's plenty of ways to go wrong. Coltrane's duets LP with Julio Iglesias, for one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Jeff G:

"Coltrane Plays, Jolson Sings." Also ill-advised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Jeff G:

Btw: Trichotillomania is the compulsive urge to pull out (and in some cases, eat) one's own hair leading to noticeable hair loss, distress, and social or functional impairment. (via Wikipedia, anyway)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Jeff G:

We're just going to keep playing these DSM-IV diagnoses until we run out. Just so you know.
  2:44pm
Doug S.:

Oh you are SO wrong. "Naima" is based on a Frigian inversion of the chord progression to "Swanee." Just brilliant!
  2:50pm
northguineahills:

I was lucky enough to see Billy Bang a few years before his death at the Stonewall Inn (of all places). There were only 12 people in the audience and hung around to talk w/ everyone after the gig.
