  9:02am hamburger:

oh, hello! happy 2013!
  9:02am G:

Oh, this is the dude that carts his balls around in a wheelbarrow!
  9:04am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Happy New Year everyone ! - ͡f° f°
  9:04am Dan B From Upstate:

Happy New Year, Ken and all.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:04am Ken:

Yes, G. it is he! Nice fucking wheelbarrow, too.
  9:05am Elisa in Italy:

Hi Ken,

Happy 2013 to you! Hope you had fun.

I sent you two messages one on FB and to your email address. Wasn't sure if you check FB messages so I sent two. I hope you don't mind. It's regarding a concert I'm trying to organize here in Vicenza, Italy for Lori Goldston the cello player from Nirvana.

www.lorigoldston.com

Wishing you the best again this year! Cheers!
  9:05am jan:

Happy New Year Ken, Happy New Year Listeners!
  9:06am Roger D.:

Meet the new year, same as the old year...
  9:06am Elisa in Italy:

Of course! Happy 2013 to WFMU listeners too!
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:07am Ken:

Hi everybody, good tidings of extra slurpy goodness to one and all!

Elisa, I will check it later today, thank you.
  9:07am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Nirvana had a cello player? Hold on..Am I in the correct meta-universe?
  9:08am Elisa in Italy:

yes they had a fucking awesome female cello player where have you been? ;)
  9:08am G:

"( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°)" -- is that pronounced fofo? :)
  9:09am Elisa in Italy:

Thank you Ken!
  9:09am Mike East:

hey hello good morning!
  9:10am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

G,

YOu almost got it right. But it's pronounced f0f0 with a Zero instead of an O.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:10am Ken:

Yeah fofo, she is the cello player on the nirvana unplugged session
  9:11am Elisa in Italy:

( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°)

Nice sounding name! Love it!
  9:12am hamburger:

f zero was a good snes game
  9:15am Michelle in Green Bay:

Happy New Year, FMUers!
  9:15am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Oh..It's a shame she wasn't invited to play with the Beatles in the Sandy benefit concert.
  9:15am G:

lets do what????
  9:16am Elisa in Italy:

Beatles?
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:17am Ken:

G, Make 2013 less horrendous than 2012, of course!
  9:18am ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°):

Beatles in the singular form, that is.
  9:18am yayson:

all hail happy new year to the mighty ken and the mighty WFMU
  9:19am Johnny Bigfoot:

I believe ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) is referring to "Sirvana"
  9:20am G:

Hmm, let's wish ourselves good luck with that :)
  9:20am Elisa in Italy:

Actually I'm trying to organize a concert for her in the small Italian town I live in and I'm having a seriously hard time cause Vicenza is super conservative and uptight. They tend to give male musicians more attention than female musicians...typical Italian machismo. Not to mention that she is "alternative" compared to the classically trained musicians that normally play shows here.
  9:21am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Actually I was referring to Maccana.
  9:22am Michelle in Green Bay:

Practically everyone I know had an abysmal year. I'm with Ken - here's to a less horrendous 2013.
  9:23am Elisa in Italy:

hear hear!
  9:25am Elisa in Italy:

Would be cool if I could also promote WFMU more here in Italy somehow. I harass as many people as possible and shove WFMU down their throats...am I promoting you correctly?
  9:25am HoNeY Water:

HNY, all!
  9:28am Elisa in Italy:

Just kidding. I just blast WFMU music really loud from my apartment and piss my Italian neighbors off.
  9:29am BSI:

gesticulating? will the FCC let you do that on the radio?
  9:29am HoNeY Water:

The dude to the far left in the topmost .GIF looks a lot like Jimmy Carter, but couldn't figure out the context -- until I copied the image location and saw "Day the Earth Stood Still."
  9:31am SteveL:

Repeat after me: Wasps, wasps, wasps...
  9:31am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

We need a WFMU italian franchise over there!

What about contacting Okapi? His music been played here a lot. He could be a brand ambassador.
  9:31am BSI:

...and for what it's worth, I agree 600% with comments re: vocals in most music. I'm voting Ken for Cthulhu in 2013.
  9:32am My cull:

Did Father Bill beat that Lutheran in a steel-cage death-match, because by the time I was listening to that station (c. 1976) he was the 'hep' Christian there. (Actually kind of neat, when he wasn't name-dropping Harry Chapin, but given that his faith were largely predicated on knowing a cool, dead, guy, it's kind of understandable).
  9:34am hamburger:

hey yelle!
  9:34am G:

Harry Chapin died in 1981.
  9:34am Pete L:

PLEASE make it stop
  9:35am G:

This is what it sounds like on the "stop" setting.
  9:36am Elisa in Italy:

Ok signing out wishing you all a less crappy new year. Cheers!
  9:39am HoNeY Water:

@Pete L: "Noise So Good" is the URL. Some people look like they're smiling when actually they're grimacing Are you related to SteveL?
  9:40am Caryn:

Hello all! Lucky I woke up in time for the show.
  9:41am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Mission control to Arianne,

can't hear you.
  9:42am HoNeY Water:

Happy New Year, Caryn!
  9:42am Pete L:

that's a little less annoying, better, hope I'm not related to any "Steve"'s
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:44am Ken:

Pete, it sounds like you have a fairly low annoyance threshhold, so you better learn to deal with that or make alternate listening plans.
  9:44am Caryn:

@HW: Happy New Year back at ya! And to everyone else, of course.
  9:44am Lauri:

Happy 2013 all!

Hi Lauri! Is this Lauri in NC?
  9:49am HoNeY Water:

  9:49am Lauri:

Nope, Lauri from finland. Where's my 7sd porn dvd?!?! :)
  9:49am Pete L:

  9:52am Mike East:

Is that NY Noise like that show thats on NY public tv?
  9:53am Lauri:

@Ken no hurry.
@Caryn parempaa uutta vuotta!
  9:53am ang:

no, NY Noise is a series of CDs released by the great label Soul Jazz in London
  9:54am HoNeY Water:

  9:54am Mike East:

ah, thanks ang.
  9:56am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Umpa talking!
  9:57am Caryn:

I think this year it'll be a springtime competition to see which show can delay it's marathon swag for the longest: Scharpling or 7SD. I don't mind the delay, as long as none of Andy's... should I say genetic material... is included.
  9:58am HoNeY Water:

Has it been scientifically proven that guilty feet have no rhythm?
  9:59am Zanapplepie:

HI KEN!!! Today is my first day back to work and I am not happy to be waking up! But you are the BEST THING HAPPENING IN MY MORNING. THANK UUUUUU for being awesome. XUXU from Vancouver, BC

No, HoNey Water. Results are difficult to reproduce because it's so easy for them to pretend.
  10:00am HoNeY Water:

@Ken: Have you seen W.C. Fieldmouse in the lavatory yet?
  10:00am Caryn:

@HW: there's a beat, but it doesn't conform to usual time signatures. It's an unconscious tapping of Morse code saying "sorry sorry sorry sorry".
  10:01am HoNeY Water:

@( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°): What, no Marimekko?
  10:03am HoNeY Water:

Thanks, all -- I have a much better idea now about the guilty feet/rhythm assertion. :)

  10:06am HoNeY Water:

@Ken: Ha! And just yesterday morning, trouble was insisting "the boys" had cleaned up rather well after their NYE revelry.

You can use those internet translation machines to learn finnish.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:07am Ken:

Who is guilty who has got rhythm? James Brown, for one. He was found guilty of SOMETHING, wasnt he? Who else is guilty yet inexplicably retains rhtyhm?
  10:07am Caryn:

@( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°): yes indeed, though the "chop"s need a better alternative. And that "poor fab our" should really be "poor fab or".
  10:08am HoNeY Water:

@Ken: I think everything BUT his feet was found guilty.
  10:09am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

o.O you intellect scares me Caryn.
  10:11am HoNeY Water:

@Lauri Not to be impertinent, but Lauri's a male name in Suomi, yes? My husband's brother's name is Kari, which is pretty exclusively female for US.
  10:15am Lauri:

Yep, my name is a male name here, and it'll still be male name for me if i go abroad :) and yeah, kari is a dude here.
  10:15am Caryn:

@Ken: hmm, Keith Moon certainly got up to lots of stuff, but I don't think a court ever found him guilty of anything... He was tried for the Neil Boland death, but was found "not guilty", so that couldn't affect his rhythm.
  10:16am Caryn:

@Lauri: well, there are some female Lauri's whose parents just wanted an unusual spelling for "Laurie" and omitted the e. But other than that, you're safe abroad.
  10:17am HoNeY Water:

@Lauri: Male when a broad, too -- gotcha! ;)
  10:18am Scientist:

Jim Gordon. Great rhythm, and one gulty ass motherfucker, err, killer.
  10:18am BDR:

Ken, what is this bed music please? I know what it is, can't figure out what, it's driving me nuts. Thanks.
  10:18am Sam:

Which cities??
  10:19am Sam:

I bet Jersey City would legalize it.
  10:22am HoNeY Water:

@Caryn: Oh, hey -- Finn-laws sent us a CD of "Juha Tapio" (for the namesake reason). Philo deems it pretty lame. And we also got the huge (?) TV production "Age of Iron." You see that? or Lauri?
  10:24am Caryn:

I do like that the Russian name for the spaghetti hat sounds like "lamp shade", which the hat looks like. I think they've given us a hint at their manufacturing process ("buy cheap lamp shade at Ikea, fan it out, sell it as headwear").
@HW: hah, not surprised. And yep, seen it. It was certainly huge and controversial for its' time.
  10:24am Lauri:

@HW juha tapio is boring as...nothing comes to mind. Rauta aika might have some good qualities to it, but i wouldnt be putting to much on it --of anything.
  10:25am HoNeY Water:

Guess "The Grudge" girl could use that hair band when eating noodles, too.
  10:26am Happy Listener:

"Don't think for one minute"... sound advice, should be practiced daily. Happy 2013!
  10:26am Caryn:

I keep hoping for the Kalevala film version starring Christopher Lee. Come on, someone, make it happen!
  10:26am HoNeY Water:

As boring as Tapioca? :) My family used to call Philo "Yahoo Tapioca."
  10:27am Simon:

Hello Ken, Happy New year from cloudy Britain. I bumped into a friend of yours - Vicky I think - in a Hotel lift in Hoxton, London in mid-December. Funny the conversations which get started when you pull on your WFMU tee-shirt. I'm enjoying your show. Moo E When O.
  10:28am Detroit Mac:

Hi Ken... I have to tell you a story: During the most recent emergency marathon, I promised to donate $25. Your website pushed me onto the Bill Me Later site, which is a PayPal business & I am a PayPal user. I received notice that the account was due and clicked through to PayPal and submitted $25 to FMU. I later got an eMail from Joe McGasko - asking for my payment. Figuring that there was a small mix-up, I resent the $25. 5 minutes later I get an email from Joe indicating that both payments have been received. As it would be a hassle to try and refund the lousy $25 - I said keep it. Now I find I am being threatened by Bill Me Later. It seems that my account was not linked and I am unable to pay this Bill Me Later account through my PayPal one. So after 3+ hours on the phone and endless bullshit, I have paid you ANOTHER $25 (this time, finally through Bill Me Later... and to do this - I had to give them my bank account number and routing info as it was now impossible for me to pay this and closed the account through PayPal. Let's hope I can make enough money before the March Marathon to be able to make another payment, but not through these asshats. DEATH TO BILL-ME-LATER & PAYPAL
  10:28am Caryn:

@HW: hey, at least Tapioca comes from a potentially harmful source, so there's an element of danger associated with it. The biggest danger with Juha Tapio is being put to sleep by his music while driving.
  10:31am HoNeY Water:

@Detroit Mac: Oh, YES, I had a run-in with Bill-me-later some years ago (I think it was brand new, and I didn't know what I was clicking on) -- I've avoided ever since.
  10:32am Caryn:

That watermelon gif brings to mind the giant lemon U2 toured with. Someone is bound to do a watermelon tour some day.
  10:32am Lauri:

@Caryn ...and wrists might open unintentionally if something sharp is around. so hide the cd-covers if u listen it.
  10:32am HoNeY Water:

Mmm, stairway to watermelon heaven.
  10:33am glenn:

geez, detroit mac, while i sympathize, public embarrassment of people you want on your side is usually bad policy.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:33am Ken:

Detroit Mac, sorry that happened, we will straighten it out - can you email me about it at ken at wfmu dot org?
  10:37am Caryn:

@Lauri: well, you could just grab the cd from the machine and slash your wrists with that. Maybe, for safety reasons, his music is best listened to in MP3 form. And with the computer on mute. (Although I will say "Kaksi puuta" is disturbingly catchy. Man, I wished it wasn't.) Apparently he has a X-mas album out now. Man, that joins the Dylan X-mas album at the very bottom of any X-mas music wish list.

  10:47am Simon:

@Caryn "Felon Thoughts Insane" translates to "pleased to meet you, will you be my goodly friend?" in spanish. He might just be a nice guy who go the tat done before taking a trip to Madrid.,
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:48am Ken:

That would be bragging, G.
  10:48am HoNeY Water:

@Ken: You mentioned being in the box or somesuch at a mic break, and there are several cagey images on the list. Were you in the slammer at some point over the holidays?
  10:48am Detroit Mac:

HI glenn: Normally I do not rant in public - but this situation has taken up too much time and aggro. I have been a 30+ year listener and preach to everybody (and get into arguments) about FMU. SO do you think I am public embarrassing anybody outside of Pay Pay or Bill-Me-Later (or, especially myself)? And how do I want them on my side? While I feel that there were minor problems with the process involving FMU, at no point does that mean that I hold them responsible for the bullshit Bill-Me-Later and PayPal have imposed. I wish I was rich enough to send in many hundreds to the station and laugh at the difficulties, but work is very tight, money is very short and being legally threatened over $25 is something worth raising one's voice about... especially to the public.
  10:49am Caryn:

@HW: it would help to see Ken's feet to determine whether they have rhythm now.
  10:50am HoNeY Water:

@Caryn: Ha! :>
  10:51am glenn:

fair enough, but i think a nice private email to ken would achieve the same results.
  10:51am Sam:

Don't worry Detroit Mac, Ken will fix everything and "disappear" the people responsible.
  10:51am Lauri:

@Caryn i cant find no safe way of listening to him. u could hang urself on headset or choke on mp3player. the possibilities are endless. what an inspiring artist, u almost got me to listen to him. like that monty python joke that u die from :)
  10:52am Caryn:

@glenn: I think it's more about warning other potential pledgers. Pay straight up, and avoid BML & PP, people!

  11:00am Caryn:

Well, you know, Ken, things can always happen in the bathroom, so it can be handy to have some extra time.
And yay, Scott Walker! Whose baritone I love.

@Sam: I wonder if the research just counted peeing times? And whether it took into account the range of clothes women may wear. It takes longer if you have on pantyhose, for instance. And it'll probably take longer if the woman has her periods. And afterwards, there may be time spent in front of the mirror fixing one's hair or makeup. The variables lengthen women's WC times in real life.

I thought ken took the microphone to bathroom...no wonder it takes time threre..
  11:09am HoNeY Water:

Waiting for the follow-up with Velcro.
  11:09am Caryn:

Love this album! Though if I have to choose one album from the trilogy, I think I still prefer "Tilt".
  11:10am Cheri Pi:

B23!!
  11:10am rstwhile:

<<zip za-am>>
And happy 2013!
  11:11am Caryn:

That was in reference to the earlier Walker track. But seriously, I could imagine Walker using zippers.
  11:11am Braveness23:

CP, this is my first time here since the hurricane!
  11:11am Ahmad:

Am I the only one who notices similarities between Bisch Bosh and Trapped in the closet? It's mostly in the awkward pauses but there are other similar vocal things happening too.
  11:12am Cheri Pi:

I thought you had perished, welcome back B23 :)
  11:14am HoNeY Water:

@Caryn: Your point about Walker's baritone is well-taken. Too few and far between in the music world.
  11:15am Braveness23:

So catch me up on what has been going on here. I caught Sudden Infant, is that what kind of freaky ass shit ya'll have been up to?
  11:16am Ken From Hyde Park:

http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/385072/
The article mentions that Ken's FM, KNNZ, is now on the air. Maybe not free form, but at least it's independent radio. They're having a spaghetti feed fund-raiser.
  11:18am Cheri Pi:

Oh mon dieu @B23! We had some tense Loutallica moments for Christmas, but it only served to bring us closer together as a board. Ken has a new kitten called Doctor Bootygrabber. I think that's about it.
  11:19am Caryn:

I'm asuming Einzelkind is all in German, and not a German-English mix going for Einzel-kind? Or maybe I've read too much E. E. Cummings and keep looking for hidden double meanings?
  11:19am HoNeY Water:

This fairy ballerina's headdress trumps Grudge girl's by a mile.
  11:20am Detroit Mac:

Ken: Been writing the whole story to an eMail to you and Liz B.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:21am Ken:

Thanks Mac.
  11:21am Nick the Bard:

I think I'm hearing some Super Metroid in this Matmos song...
  11:22am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

People,

Since GIF is now a verb according to the Oxford American Dictionary, how would you say this:

"Ken gifes some very strange and cool animations"
"Wednesdays are for gifing"
"I feel like giffen. What's your Gif source?"

Am I using the verb correctly?

Animated GIF. 's getting mainstream.
  11:22am Caryn:

Oh, poor Tanaquil. Ballerina who got polio and ended up in a wheelchair.
  11:22am Roberto:

Happy 2013 Kenneleh. Thanks for making the first morning back a little less horrible.
  11:25am HoNeY Water:

Guilty hands got no rhythm?
  11:25am Braveness23:

Wow, well forgive me for being gone for so long. I can help with the kitten problem. Just ask.
  11:29am Caryn:

For those wanting to know more about the "fairy ballerina": http://www.the-ballet.com/leclercq.php
  11:31am HoNeY Water:

Thanks, Caryn -- but I think we have another headdress trump here. The caption might be "Oh no you didden!"
  11:33am HoNeY Water:

I don't think I'll *ever* tire of this lullaby bed music. Love it!
  11:33am Sam:

Isn't it, "you can be the bun, and I can be the burger, girl"?
  11:34am Caryn:

My dad got "Celebration Day" for X-mas. Gotta say, one of the best live versions of "Kashmir" I've seen.
  11:36am Sam:

How about "Yesterday"? I heard that was the most played song in the world, and it's appropriate for birthdays.
  11:38am HoNeY Water:

Ken E. Cheese? WC Fieldmouse as the mascot.
  11:39am Mike East:

I like that birthday song that was on the Simpsons episode when they're at the Chuck E. Cheese knock off sung by animatronic robots: "You're the birthday, you're the birthday, you're the birthday boy or girl..."
  11:39am toi:

make everyone sing macarthur park at all birthdays ballgames and presidential innaugurations
  11:41am G:

@H.W.: Only if WC Fieldmouse has a jaunty backturned baseball cap and an unnatural smile
  11:41am Caryn:

@Mike East: is it weird that I can still sing that with the correct melody?
  11:41am Sam:

Yeah Mike East, good one.
  11:42am Mike East:

not at all, Caryn...so can I. That's what you call a classic bit, imo
  11:43am HoNeY Water:

@G: Nah, he has a panama and a cigar, bocoors!
  11:43am HoNeY Water:

Though a top hat would work as well.
  11:43am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

It's just a matter of time before we hear the Rockabye Baby rendition of Psy's Gangman Style. And that musical revolution would be televised and giffed here.
  11:43am Ken From Hyde Park:

Isn't "Stairway to Heaven" the most requested song of all time? Each year on my birthday, I call the local FM station and request it. Also, the Simpson's had an episode of The Ramones singing a happy birthday song to Mr. Burns.
  11:44am Caryn:

Now I'm trying to determine what the word beneath the "for lease" sign is. Based on the edges of the letters that are visible, I suspect it's "lord". But based just on the last letter, it could be "homo". In which case that text was put there by the Westboro Baptist Church.
  11:45am Caryn:

@Mike East: heh. Of course, the "Planet of the Apes" musical and "See My Vest" are also stuck in my cranium. The musical is probably the Simpsons musical moment I remember best. Along with "You don't get friends with salad..."
  11:47am Caryn:

Chinese furries always travel with plenty of accessories, apparently.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:50am Ken:

Oh, they're not furries Caryn, they're devoted Chinese oologists who have soaked themselves in Panda urine and are wearing appropriate costumes for releasing wittle baby pandycubs back into the wild. They are doing God's work.
  11:50am HoNeY Water:

12:50? I'd like to point out it's more like 12:52.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:50am Ken:

If your God is wearing a panda-urine soaked panda costume.
  11:51am Mike East:

@Caryn - so many good moments. The first 9 seasons of that show occupy the part of my brain that probably should have been storing everything that I learned in school. I think being able to recall Simpsons trivia is more useful than knowing what date the Declaration of Independence was signed.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:52am Ken:

Sorry, that GIF is from a different time zone. I forgot.
  11:52am still b/p:

The Devil Wears Panda.
  11:52am Caryn:

@Ken: oh I know, but that photo is certainly open to interpretation. It also reminds me of the people who say we should just let pandas die out, because if they're stupid enough to be carnivores who for some reason eat nothing but bamboo, which doesn't suit their digestion in the slightest, they are clearly good candidates for the Darwin Awards.
  11:52am HoNeY Water:

What about Zelda?!
  11:52am amEdeo:

Haaaaaaawwwww hhhhhaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwa
  11:53am Ricardo Montalban:

I've been thoroughly enjoying the show, Ken!
Missed a brief segment on my icy commute but managed to catch most of it.
  11:53am HoNeY Water:

Guess they had to rhyme harmonica though.
  11:55am fact check:

@Caryn "survival of the fittest" right?
  11:56am HoNeY Water:

Concurrence with Mr. Montalban -- thanks for your first blast of 2013!
  11:56am Ken From Hyde Park:

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-01/02/giant-panda-blood-antibiotic
Maybe they're on their way to harvest some panda blood?
  11:57am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

For those interested,

The Chipmunks Song Slowed Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=z8FxOu2gg10#at=50

This is the one used in that comedian sketch Ken loves.
  11:57am Caryn:

@fact check: I don't agree with those people, and certainly many of the problems pandas face have to do with human activities, but I gotta say that the pandas have for some reason effed up on the eating front.
  11:57am Vampire Pandas:

Aw crap, they're on to us.
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 11:58am Ken:

Bye everybody!
  11:58am G:

a nude attention episode?
  11:58am G:

duane has been the promptest DJ on the station since his little talking to :-)
  11:59am Caryn:

Bye, Dr. Nick! Aw shoot, the Simsons discussion has me all confused...
  11:59am ( ͡f° ͜ʖ ͡f°):

Great deeyaing and giffing Ken, many thanks !
  11:59am zookeeper:

Our adorable vampire panda is Fang-Fang.
  12:00pm Sam:

Bamboo's really really healthy, lots of fiber and iron and magnesium
  12:09pm Caryn:

@Sam: true, but the panda digestive system and teeth are not suitable for processing it, which is why they have to eat constantly to get any nutrition at all. How they mistakenly began to eat it is a zoological mystery.
