A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Good morning Troublette. I have a bird feeder out my window that mostly attracts pigeons, so I hung it off the edge and hear them flapping to stay on it. Kinda works as a deterrent as they are the pigs of the bird community. Side note - saw a pair of cardinals, male & female, and two blue jays at Fort Tryon this weekend.

You are correct Trouble. The NRA has never been about gun owner but rather all about the gun makers.
  11:05am
dc pat:

right on trouble
  11:05am
Kurt:

Actually the NRA is mostly supported by it's members. Of which I am one.
  11:09am
dc pat:

that's nice Kurt but doesn't take anything away from what trouble said which is, as I said, right on. NRA may be supported by members but your money goes right into the hands of gun industry lobbyists.
  11:14am
herb:

guns, never held one, never fired one. so am i allowed to have an opinion on them? i'll be a hippie & say "guns shouldn't be in peoples' homes. people shouldn't have them." of course bad guys will still be able to get them. people will still mass-shoot people. but maybe it'll happen far less often.

@Kurt - thanks for saying yr a member of NRA. it's probably non-pc *in this group*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
trouble:

i am talking the big bucks kurt. it's nice to pay $35 to belong but that is not what is pushing their agenda with congress. that membership pays for paper towels and toner cartridges. the big bucks go to swaying legislators to vote for lax gun controls. that is not $ that comes from membership
  11:15am
Kurt:

Actually as our political system stands the lobbying money goes to Washington as that is the only way to get any reasonable representation. That's true true for anthing in that cesspool.
  11:18am
Braveness23:

My cousin has a ferret!
  11:18am
Kurt:

herb, I'm a very non-PC type in these parts.
  11:19am
Marmalade Kitty:

cowboys and Indians, anyone?
  11:20am
Braveness23:

that's the problem with tacos
  11:22am
Cecile:

my husband enjoys target shooting on occasion, but he uses a friend's gun or the ones they have there. He comes from a family of hunters. Who all left the NRA when the organization was lobbying for the continued legaliazation of hollow point bullets and assault rifles.

I think conscientious hunters are great - they are some of the staunchest habitat presevationists. But at some point, if it's not for hunting or simple home protection, it's, pardon the expression, overkill.
  11:22am
Mr. Wareing:

A gin and orange! A lemon squash! And a scotch and water please!
  11:25am
Kurt:

There are 4.3 million NRA members. Revenue is at $205 million. Even if each member only contributed $35, then the vast majority of their revenue comes from the membership not the big bad gun industry.
  11:25am
dc pat:

Cecile: I grew up with hunters and have absolutely no problem with a guy going out and shooting a deer to keep his family in meat all winter. Nothing wrong with that. It's when we get into the hollow point bullets and general legalized murder weapons I have problems with.
  11:25am
Marmalade Kitty:

bow an arrows are much more fun! ;)
  11:25am
Tyler:

This is an epic romance & heartbreak mix this morning. Impeccable taste I might add. Trouble is my favorite

Isn't this song called Baby It's You?

Also, those archery fingerless gloves are kind of badass.

THE BRILL BUILDING. reminds me of cd i got from library, CAROLE KING demos. opens with "pleasant valley sunday" - i didnt know she & husband, GERRY GOFFIN, wrote it. (BOW AND ARROWS, reminds me of the movie "we have to talk about kevin")
  11:30am
Cecile:

Brian, cool.
Hey, I saw the Tintin movie. I guite liked it!
I wished it would have been done in the original Herge style, but they make a lovely tribute to him at the beginning of the film.
  11:31am
Braveness23:

Brian in UK, our birds stopped laying months ago. Too old. As soon as girlfriend gets around to it they will be swimming in a stew pot.

Actually worked myself up to a full phone interview tomorrow w/ the head of the prospective department of a firm actually located in nyc. Considering I have 3 weeks of unemployment left, I'm really cutting this close.
  11:34am

Braveness23:

oh we're hitting all the topics today... lunchtime. Love yall. Look forward to hearing you again next week Trouble
  11:39am
Kurt:

The NRA is a mostly user supported organization that, among other things , protects the 2nd ammendment from from reactionaries and others who would like to trim the constitution in such a way as to make them feel good about themselves. They also provide a vast number of educational opportunities such as hunter education, marksmanship programs, etc.
  11:40am
Brian in UK:

All the best for tomorrow ngh.

Cecile as a sidetrack, I used to have the first Thompson Twins albums, twas OK.
  11:41am
dc pat:

so you're a member of a militia? because that's what the 2nd amendment is about, pal.
  11:41am
Andrew:

It's true, they won't shill for just anyone. They're more like the advertising department of the arms industry.
  11:41am
Joseph Goebbels:

The Third Reich had excellent educational programs as well.
  11:42am
dc pat:

with that, got to get an early lunch. No hard feelings Kurt. Thanks. and thanks trouble.
  11:42am
john:

Hey Kurt, Do you accept the entirety of NRA's agenda? I don't mean it offensively, just a question. Like, I guess, is the organization is infallible?
  11:42am
the glowing one:

@Kurt: you've taught me a totally different meaning of reactionary there
  11:43am

all of this, is very agreable, i must say.

  11:48am
Kurt:

Joseph: Actually the Nazi's were all about gun control: They further strengthened gun control laws began under the Weirmar regime.

John: Of course I don't support 100% of the NRA's or any organizations agenda. No organization is infallible because it is made up of people. None of us are perfect. However, I do agree with the vast majority of it's positions.
  11:50am
Brian in UK:

Cecile I used to think one ot the guys in Teardrop Explodes, I think it was, had a quiff like Tintin.
  11:51am
the glowing one:

What I dislike about the NRA the most is the way they communicate. It's not so much about their views but the way they spin the public opinion. It's a lobby organisation after all.
  11:51am
Jennique:

Trouble, meant to tell you that my nephew out in Cally is raising two chickens in his back yard for school, kind of a 4-H thing. Anyhow, my brother told me he named one Bok Bok and the other Bok Bok Bok.
  11:52am

Although MOM sort of sounds the same, they have still really morphed into nearly dancefloor friendly territory.

Ooooh luv this.
  11:53am

What record is this Vic Godard from? It sounds like Orange Juice!
  11:53am

Brian, all these young hip execs in Minneapolis have these little tufts of hair in front of their heads and I think they look like Tintin, too!
