Hey, thanks for stopping by the Fifth Not-Quite-Annual InterActiv™ Record Fair Listening Party! The party begins at 9pm Eastern Time on Wednesday, but in the meantime take a look at the list of records I bought at Sunday's record fair and leave a comment here telling me what you want to hear!
  11:07pm
Joe B:

A Village People twinspin™: Hot Cop from Cruisin and of course Food Fight from Renaissance!
  11:07pm
SteveL:

Well, "Don't Eat Bricks" is the first obvious choice.
"Nervous Breakdown" by Brian Briggs, because I gotta know.
"Klean Livin Kids"
"Sounds of Sound" (obvious #2)
More Harry Harrison? Perfect.
  11:08pm
Paulie B:

That "Laughing at the Ground" 7" is amazing. The 21-645 is probably the best tune on it. Also, if you could play whatever that power pop 45 you bought from Chunk Warner was, that would be awesome.
  11:09pm
Paulie B:

And that's CHUCK Warner. Not Chunk. Sorry, Chuck.
  11:14pm
Joe D.:

George Baker Selection!!!

Also Altered Images. And who were the Stukas???
  11:17pm
jeff k:

Yachts -Love you Love you
  11:22pm
KP:

"Up to You" by the Stoat.
  11:23pm
Gregory:

Please play Monster Rap.
  6:36am
jtkantor:

I've never heard the Cortez/Youngblood collaboration; I'm intrigued!
  12:46pm
Mike Sin:

Anything off of your favorite find -- the Gotham "Void Where Inhibited" LP -- but I want Sherri to front-announce it on air because she dug and unearthed it!
  12:53pm
TCJimmy:

The Dave Baby Cortez record is a burner! I recommend Side A Track 1 The Lemon Drop.
  1:10pm
steve:

was just this morning listening to the Cristina s/t picked up at a previous FMU record fair! how about "La Poupee qui Fait Non"?
  1:12pm
Cal Zone!:

Those Harry Harrison 'In' Sound records are always BOSS! Also anything 'Spizz' gets my endorsement!
  1:22pm
Ajax:

I'd like to hear Dexy's Midnight Runners : There There My Dear, thanks. Also are you a millionaire? You bought so many records! KC's "Please Don't Go" from Do You Wanna Go Party is my jam.
  2:50pm
Danne D:

Hey EFD! Hey Funk Fans!

Um....so there's like no music right now...confused

j/k :)

Btw, folks when Evan was at the record fair there was a point where we was standing next to a rack of records with dividers (part of a seller's table) and everyone who passed by just assumed they were all his purchases.

#buyembytherack
  2:51pm
Danne D:

Did the Flirts do "Jukebox"? surely I hope we hear that tonight if that's the case

#dowannahearthatsongsomemore
  3:07pm
herb.nyc:

uh, why not play ALL of the purchases in random order? (someone mentioned HARRY HARRISON - as i love his voice, suuuuuuuuuure)
  5:25pm
Lisa:

Hi. I request Radio Kids. :-)
  7:56pm
Elizabeth:

Up to You!- by The Stoat

You're welcome Lisa! Holly, I'm afraid the listening party is going to wrap up at around 10! You'll have to check the archive I guess. :(
  9:12pm
Holly in NC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
efd:

and hi/thanks everyone for listening and requesting!
  9:13pm
john:

Great haul! Hmm, well, it's kind of mandatory for me to call out Be-Bop Deluxe, though Modern Music is a record I rarely listen to. Maybe "Kiss of Light?"
  9:13pm
Joe B:

" accepted under duress as a "gift" from a dealer" have to hear this story at some point! maybe not suitable for the airwaves?
  9:15pm
SteveL:

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm late, and Gotham led the show.
  9:17pm
SteveL:

goodbye cruel world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
efd:

It's the archives for you too, SteveL! You also missed one of your requests!

Joe B, definitely suitable for the airwaves, but probably not as interesting as what anyone is imagining.
  9:18pm
SteveL:

I have no purpose. No meaning. Gotham is lost to me. Until later, at least.
  9:21pm
john:

I'm having a WLIR flashback here. In all the best ways.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
A Dealer:

efd will never find the hidden chip in his "gift" that will let me get a fix on the location of his supersecret Funk Generator.

And once I know, I WILL RULE THE WORLD BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9:24pm
SteveL:

The Puppets are tremendous dance music.

"We learn to live with a little pain my dear."

Deep or kinky? Depends on your mood.
  9:27pm
SteveL:

Ahhhhhhhh. "Nervous Breakdown" Very interesting.
  9:28pm
Ignore Function:

Is that what Yacht rock sounds like? Better than I expected.
  9:30pm
SteveL:

Brian Briggs seems to have honed in on a pretty unusual hybrid style. Rocka-devo-dance-hall?
  9:31pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Brian Briggs. Its been what 25 yrs since i heard dat?
  9:33pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Oh man, Gotham's "Void Where Inhibited"! EFD, don't you remember? Or maybe you weren't down here yet at the time. There was a big-ass billboard for that album shining out on Sheridan Square.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
efd:

Parq, I do not remember that! I was here in 1979. too. Maybe I blocked it out.
  9:49pm
SteveL:

Pretty sure "Hot Cop" is my new Village People favorite.

POSTER!!!

Rough Trade was probably the first proper record store I walked into when I was 16 or so. My home town only had a TX chain store called Hastings, but I visited my dad in San Francisco and stumbled into the old Rough Trade location on 16th which was about as big as a walkin closet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm

Holly in NC:

OH FUDGE I MISSED SPIZZY JUNGLE FEVER.
Ah well. Hi Evan & all!

Kat, I can't believe you can't go! That stinks! (Not that you need me to tell you that.)

Holly, I had indeed noticed your jam - such a great song!

steve, believe me I'm as shocked as anyone. Barkevious, I would say that they each have a very distinct (and similar) look, which may not be to everyone's taste.
  10:46pm
SteveL:

Now I have to see the Flirts cover.
  10:47pm
Danne D:

These guys were fantastic Sunday :)

Thanks for playing the Flirts EFD :)
  10:47pm
BadGuyZero [Dallas, TX]:

@Kat: Are you unable to attend because it sold out? Or do you have a conflicting commitment? I may have an extra ticket if it's the former.

The A's get John Jaso from Seattle
Washington gets A.J. Cole from the A's
Washington also gets two players to be named later - it's unclear who from.
  11:17pm

Does that mean only The Fibb, Figg, Finn, and Firr are still available?
  11:17pm
SteveL:

...or just make them. [cymbal crash]

Remember to tip.
  11:18pm

Danne, given that they seem to get the worst of every deal, even ones they're not actually involved in, I'd assume they'll get them from the Mets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm

@Steve: D'ya think *he* tipped?
  11:19pm

A couple of months back Rob Weisberg was doing a remote from Le Poisson Rouge. When Terre started Cherry Blossom Clinic some of the streams were streaming the open mic at LPR. We could hear a band warming up. A listener commented that he heard them say...I don't remember how he spelled it; I'll try to find it. I got a kick out of it though.

Here you go:

"Was that Rob Weisberg on the new "Remote Rehearsal Stream." Call him at the Pwasawn Roozh."

@G: My head is filled with trivial moments like that from the comments board.

I remember reading that comment and thinking "what kind of cockamamie name is that for a place" then looked at Rob's text promoting the remote and realized I probably would have spelled it the same way.

That was a very Keystone Cops moment...everyone trying to figure out how to fix it. Ken was asking everyone to call him immediately.

Dear listeners: The WFMU.org website is going to be taken down for some routine maintenance at midnight. Streams should be fine. Don't panic, stand up and stretch your legs for a bit. I'll be here, mostly in control. heh.

A heads-up to those of you who expect to keep listening on into the night:

We're having to do some maintenance on the wfmu.org server, which will start just after midnight US/Eastern.

So... poor Mary W gets stuck with no live playlist for the beginning of the show. The streams and FM signal should keep going just as usual, and we hope to be back in 15 minutes or less (less if nothing goes badly haywire).

Oh, wait. Mary just said all this.

haywire. could be fun!
