God bless fmu for helping me through this insomnia. MBV def has a new sound...

Lush isn't awful, just not MBV!

how come this music only has background singing?

I just can't wait till tomorrow afternoon when I get a bit of volume on the speakers

Right back into the fold with a wall of swirling guitars. I nearly cried when I heard this.

dan in Falls Church VA:

I just downloaded the hi-res after ordering the vinyl and I was gonna save it for tomorrow when I can crank the volume, but so much for that!
  3:12am
Gary B:

Another great, 'Loveless' era track. Bilinda Butcher's vocals floating above the guitars.
Avatar 3:13am
Yair Yona:

Great second track!
  3:14am
Cecil Cranky:

Can I be honest and say I always thought MBV were over rated, even when they were under rated? I bought Isn't Anything and Loveless when they came out and thought they were okay. Nothing life changing. I guess I just don't get it. This new material doesn't do anything for me. ZZZZ....
  3:15am
dan in Falls Church VA:

@Chris, when I unzipped your download, the fresultant folder titled itself Winter - Daydreaming. Did that happen to you?
  3:15am
Gary B:

Dan, in NOVA too. I ordered the vinyl, CD and mp3 (no external DAC at home), before hearing a note of the album.
Avatar 3:16am
Chris M.:

dan: what download?
  3:17am
Cecil Cranky:

I like the idea of having a listening party, though.
  3:17am
Gary B:

@Cecil - I think a lot of people feel that way. But the influence on bands that followed them can be distinctly heard. Sort of like the Velvet Underground
Avatar 3:17am
Congolia:

I'm holding out for the Odd Vorggness edition.
  3:17am
dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary, yeah, me too, except I went for the 24/96 WAV, having ye olde DAC. A friend of mine is gonna split the costs with me and take the CD when the package arrives (after I make WAV and MP3 rips of it of course...)
  3:17am

Apparently, Brian Eno said that their single Soon "set a new standard for pop", describing it as "the vaguest music ever to have been a hit".

@chris My Mac tried to download the playlist as well when I clicked on it. I finally just went with the flash player, and enabled pop ups.
  3:19am

@Gary: Do you really think MBV are for younger people now what VU were to younger people in the two decades that followed? I'm sincerely interested...
Avatar 3:19am

@Gary, just earlier this evening, or last evening technically, Matt from Springfield (which in his case is Springfield VA) & I had our first WFMU NoVa micro-meetup! Where in NoVa are you?
Avatar 3:20am

great third track
  3:20am
Cecil Cranky:

@MK: Yeah, that single is great. I still have that. I don't understand how it set a new standard for pop, though. ??
  3:20am
Gary B:

@chris @dan Nevermind. Who See's You sounds great loud...again, this could be on Isn't Anything...nothing revolutionary. Still very good though.
  3:21am
dan in Falls Church VA:

@Chris, no shit!!! and forbade you from broidcasting til after release, perhaps? wow you have been way ahead of us

YES, keep playing! Even if it's putting me to sleep haha
  3:32am
Gary B:

@dan - #mbv was trending worldwide for awhile on twitter. Still is on my feed. The overall mood of the people listening to the album is one of elation. I had low expectations and they were shattered into oblivion.
  3:32am
dan in Falls Church VA:

@Gary b, did your MP3 download unzip to create a folder titled Winter - Dreaming?

My biggest gripe this fdar is that it isn't as LOUD as the other stuff
  3:35am
kurometarikku:

all mbv all the time, then more lush
  3:36am
Gary B:

I actually saw a guy playing a chapman stick when I was in West Virginia last march. That was different.
  3:36am
dan in Falls Church VA:

@Congolia, it doesn't matter what files he's playing you can't fit a chapman into any of the streams
  3:36am

Kevin Shield's said that this song was inspired by when he bought a Sega Dreamcast. He never played a game on it he just admired the menu screen.

I agree with Kurometarikku.
  3:38am
b-s:

Ok, I take back my LOUD comment. I take it track 7 is the beginning of side B?
  3:39am
dan in Falls Church VA:

I don't think you can fit a chapman into the flash stream, good luck even with a jazzmaster, it's all about the bandwidth, you can't jam a fretless bass into an mp3 stream you need at least 16/44 for that
  3:39am
Gary B:

This song will surprise you. Suddenly MBV found drum and bass.
