Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Mike East:

whoa - how long have you been using this new version of CBC?.. I don't remember hearing it
Avatar 3:12pm On the Yazoo:

@Mike.. she throws that one in there every once in a while... A clear sign of another great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Mike East:

woohoo! I'm up for a great show! Let's rock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm eyenoise:

Altered Boys: GOMP'd on The Best Show, pole position on the CBC!
  3:24pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Soundin' good, Terre! Thanks for spending yer birthday at my gig!
3:26pm Alan Alda is a gangsta:

Great set so far!
  3:28pm PB:

There was a really good Canadian punk band called Teenage Head, many years ago.
  3:28pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Flamin' Groovies are my favorite all time band and "Teenage Head" is my favorite of their songs. But of course you knew "Jumpy" is short for JumpingInTheNight, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Steve Harsh:

OK, Flamin' Groovies woke me right up. Go Terre!!!
  3:50pm BadGuyZero:

Greenberg, Glickstein, Charles, David Smith and Jones is the official legal representative of Cherry Blossom Clinic, right?
Avatar 3:50pm Danne D:

Hey TT - awesome start :)
Hi folks.
Avatar 3:53pm dk:

damn, it has been a minute since i've heard this matthew sweet song. nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm G:

Yep, one of the best written pop songs of the 80s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm G:

Yes, anything 'rock' not done in the shadow of _Nevermind_ is still culturally 80s, even if _Girlfriend_ is a 1991 release.

In the cultural history dodge, we call that "the long 1980s" lol (seriously, people write about "the long 19th century" which goes back before 1800 and can last till after 1900)
Avatar 4:02pm BadGuyZero:

I saw Matthew Sweet live in 1995. It was like seeing Neil Young & Crazy Horse play nothing but rockers for an hour. Good times!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Mike East:

Sorry, G. I definitely associate that Matthew Sweet track as 90's. In a similar group as Tonic. Remember Tonic?
Avatar 4:03pm Joe B:

Hi TT! show sounding great as usual!
Avatar 4:08pm Larry In Portland:

It's funny I played Ty Segall for a friend the other night and the first reference he made was Matthew Sweet. That surprised me. Hey Terre!
Avatar 4:09pm Joe B:

celebrity? definitely Grade D!
Avatar 4:09pm BadGuyZero:

I'm five degrees from Kevin Bacon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Mike East:

Definitely atleast a B, Joe B.
Avatar 4:10pm Danne D:

D's a good letter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Mike East:

in FMUniverse, anyway (probably more of an A)...which is the only universe that matters to me. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm G:

Your call, Mike. :) You pays your $, you takes your choice...

I just recall the chief mainstream music scene shift happening in late 91 and early 92, when "Teen Spirit" came out. That was when the big cultural shift occurred, and "Girlfriend" sounded more like an niche thing or a throwback in the context of what was dominant (for better and/or worse) in rock during the rest of the 90s.

Then again, power pop has always had a 60s/70s feel to it, so it's hard to get away from the "throwback" feel. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Roots is roots. :)

lanier greig of moving sidewalks passed away a couple of weeks ago. :(

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm G:

@Jumpy: That's what *she* said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm fred:

I can't wait for the marathon to get started. I had everything lined up for a change, and now Kurt isn't doing his show. Chaos as usual then, bring it on!
  4:26pm mopar Larry:

Lady Guinness, you just keep doing what your doing...
  4:28pm herb:

wow, TERRE T's playing the usual great songs by the just-as-great bands as she always does. and i'm stuck in the public library, headphone-less. oh well. (let me qwikly suggest that if we can pledge to wfmu, and multiple times, maybe we can try & add an extra 1% to our total. you know, like, a gratuity, chintzy however it may be. just a thought. like, i been doing so for past few years. --someone pat me on the back, plz.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm fred:

@herb: I'll pat you on the back. I'm not joining your 1% campaign though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm fred:

Sleater-Kinney!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm eyenoise:

Unreleased Avengers?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm AP Paulie B:

@eyenoise Actually, these songs were released on 7" sometime in the mid-90s. But this new version of Superior Viaduct is has much better packaging and is available now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Mike East:

Was just singing a Sleater-Kinney song this morning...which in fact, inspired my chosen avatar.
  4:40pm herb:

@fred, thanks. are you a member of the 99% by any chance?
@terre, via THE BIG TAKEOVER magazine, i learned of australia's THE AVENGERS. cool band, not at all like the kalifornia kind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm fred:

@herb: I'm a member of nothing. I actually like what you're doing, calling on people to do more. It's a good cause. I give more than 10% of my income to the station, been doing that for a decade, I'm that kind of loser
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Mike East:

you mean that kind of winner, fred
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm fred:

@Mike East: I "win" if enough people pledge so that the station goes on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm efd:

Did I just hear Terre T make a Sgt. Slaughter reference?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Mike East:

exactly fred. We're all winners :)
  5:04pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Mil Mascaras: wrestler AND actor.
Avatar 5:04pm Danne D:

Copy and paste now tweeps: @unblinkingear
  5:05pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Sgt. Slaughter, I'm in love with you daughter!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm efd:

*keels over*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm efd:

wait, whuuuuuuut????
  5:06pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Mil's brother is El Sicodelico, who favored psychedelic masks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm eyenoise:

AP Paulie B: Teenage Rebel & Friends Of Mine were on Avengers 1999 Died For Your Sins comp. Different versions on this 7"? (which I see was a Swedish release in 1997)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm efd:

Seriously, though, looking forward to Terre T co-hosting on my show this Wednesday night!
  5:10pm Ignore Function:

We are due for a power violence revival.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm fred:

@Mike East: We'll win this together! (whatever that means)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Mike East:

hahaha...538 Johnson...I used to crash on a couch there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm AP Paulie B:

@eyenoise Could be the same versions. I'll have to investigate. The new 7" is really nice though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm G:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm fred:

Laphroaig resuming shipment to near where I live would be much appreciated too. Just saying...
Avatar 5:19pm Therese:

Yes!! I love this cover!

Hi TT! Hi Paulie!
Avatar 5:19pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Oh, I *love* this version of Brand New Love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm fred:

This cover was gold
Avatar 5:22pm Danne D:

Hey Therese :)
  5:30pm PB:

Lou Reed basically dresses and looks the same as he did 40 years ago. He has aged pretty well, especially considering his history.
  5:42pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Lou has been clean & sober, not even caffeine, for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm G:

@PB: Lost in 1973? Hey, it happens. Ask Yes.
  5:47pm Andrew:

great set terre - helped me through a tough time. thank you.
  5:49pm PB:

Lou's one of the greats, glad he's still around (despite Lulu).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Steve Harsh:

Another awesome set Terre - many thanks!!!
  5:54pm Hallock Hill:

Amazing show. Has made my night.
  5:58pm Tommi:

Ahhh Wyldlife at last I feel so much better now....
