But does your program support an Emanuel Ax policy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am
Uncle Michael:

I hope it supports a chillax policy. I'm doing that for the next 89 minutes till I have to check out of this Chicago hotel.

Brian in UK:

@UM What the L are you doing there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am
Uncle Michael:

One day layover here on my way home from Spain. I grew up here so any time here is welcome. I didn't want to have to drive two hours after a 24 hour travel day.

Jeff is still weeping over the NY Jets cutting Tim Tebow. Let's help him through this difficult time, people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm

The Jets cut Tebow? That's like cutting Jesus. That's *exactly* like cutting Jesus. That's also rather amusing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Uncle Michael:

Trademark violation: upload.wikimedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Jeff Golick:

Just cranked it a few notches, Doug.
Can you hear me now?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Doug Schulkind:

No change in the levels. Crank some more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Jeff Golick:

...I feel like I'm conducting some kind of Milgram experiment.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Doug Schulkind:

Is it possible that the volume setting on your computer is way low? So much so that adjusting the levels down the line are superfluous? If the computer volume setting is really low, turn back down the other levels you adjust up FIRST before turning up your computer's volume setting.

If you feel an electric shock, you're on the right path.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Doug Schulkind:

That last part was a Milgram reference. And a joke.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm

Base camp is normally quieter than the Stream. I am playing a higher volume than normal for the Stream.

@Jeff are you still fully clothed?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
Fill me in on what's going on. The volume is still down too much. Are you cranking on your end with no difference on the stream? Does SAM need adjusting maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Jeff Golick:

Not only fully clothed, but I took a shower and everything...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jeff Golick:

@Doug: cranking w no seeming effect via the mixer.
SAM is full tilt all the way up.
Computer is at 50%, though I don't think it's been changed since our test...
Avatar 12:25pm
northguineahills:

Shower, not a bad idea.....
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Doug Schulkind:

How about the Winamp windows. Is there a volume setting on them?
Also, have you tried the mic again. Were you getting vu meter readings with the mic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Jeff Golick:

@Doug: does seem as though the levels in SAM itself are looking low (ie, well down in the green...) Not entirely sure how to get those up...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Doug Schulkind:

I would boost your computer's volume output. Turn down the level on the mixer first, though. I usually have my computer's volume all the way up.
Avatar 12:29pm
Jesse K:

Jeff, You actually have four volumes for the music. Winamp has a volume, line 3+4 in your mixer should have a volume control, there's a master volume for the mixer and SAM has a volume. If you have low input readings in the SAM, try upping any of the preceding knobs.
Avatar 12:30pm
Mike on South Street:

No technical difficulties here. Great stuff so far, guys. Love the Solberg and this Ben Monder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Jeff Golick:

@Doug seems that might've done it (puter)
Avatar 12:32pm
Shaun:

Yeah, bollocks to the levels, this guitar set's been great.
Avatar 12:33pm
Jesse K:

right, sorry, 5 volume knobs to adjust, counting the computer's output
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Doug Schulkind:

Still could be higher, but it definitely got louder.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

No mic audio!
Avatar 12:35pm
Carmichael:

I hope you're not speaking now, because I can't hear you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Uncle Michael:

Best of luck to you Jeff. I gotta leave the comments now. Hasty amoebas.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Doug Schulkind:

I think you should kill the music and talk into the mic to see if you are getting meter readings independently on the mic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Jeff Golick:

Hrm. But the music's the best part.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Doug Schulkind:

Jeff, have you gotten any levels on the mic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Jeff Golick:

@Doug: ah, haven't actually looked at that -- will next break!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Jeff Golick:

I'm just gonna keep drinking coffee until the top of my head comes off.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Doug Schulkind:

Don't use any music bed when you next come on mic so you can see if you're getting levels. Until then, check all the cable connections for the mic and check the mixer's mic level (as if you haven't already!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Doug Schulkind:

Jeff,
You should stop playing music and work on the mic problem till we get it resolved.
Avatar 1:12pm
Jesse K:

dumb question: is the mic turned on?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Doug Schulkind:

Are you getting any levels when you talk into the mic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Jeff Golick:

No levels.

@Jesse K: dumb question back atcha: there's an on switch?
Avatar 1:14pm
Jesse K:

some mics have an off/on switch. maybe yours doesn't It should be obviously on the handle or somewhere if so
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
Doug Schulkind:

Jeff, the SM 58 does NOT have an on/off switch. Have you check all the cable connections? Have you tried pressing (or unpressing) the Phantom Power button on the mixer?
Avatar 1:19pm

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
Doug Schulkind:

You mic level is good now!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Doug Schulkind:

Mic levels were uneven during that break. Mostly good, but with some moments of overmodulation. Sounded like you were getting too close to the mic in some spots. I would turn the mic level down a bit and be sure to keep a fixed distance from the mic. Also, remember to talk across the front, rather than directly into it.
