Favoriting August 28, 2013: 5th nearly-annual Disco/Dance Party!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Summertime always reminds me of listening to Ken "Spider" Webb and Ricky Ricardo and, of course the Chief Rocker Frankie Crocker on WBLS. In that spirit, I present the 5th mostly-annual Evan "Funk" Davies Disco/Dance Party! I'll be spinning some classic jams of the mid-'70s and early '80s, along with some lesser-known nuggets. It's the kind of show that makes you say "I haven't heard this in 35 years" and "why haven't I heard this before?!" so if you love the nightlife you'll tune in!

=======================================
Disco disclaimer! I'm keeping the lines blurry and using "disco" as a catch-all term for my own take on fun dance music from the mid-70s to the early '80s, expanding the boundaries (and sound) of the traditional disco era. No griping, please!

For a city (in)famous as the home of Disco Demolition, you can hear quite a lot of the stuff around here these days, if you've a mind to. I have several DJ friends in Chicago who are quite sincerely, non-ironically into disco. One of them just announced today on Facebook that she's starting a new night called "The Full Twelve Inches" - 12" dance singles played in their entirety! - and she posted a YouTube link to the Gary Tom's Empire version of "Drive My Car" on the event page. I see a Tom Moulton Mix on there too.

Hi Eddy! No reason to be sorry, I'm totally enjoying both show and book, disconnect be damned.

But I do have a rather painful stye forming. Anyone know any good remedies other than a hot compress ?

Surprisingly not an enormous disconnect with my book for the evening, an account of the Situationists International's legacy post-1968. Just read an extended digression in the spectacle of NYC club/nightlife.

Wonderful show as always!
