A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

The cool thing about that Light in the Attic compilation is to get rid of the bad aspects of the New Age label and making it clear how things created by that "spirit" are all over today's music, even pop music (as this Blake tune shows).

Old GDR novelty.
Early GDR-Nina hagen made similar comedy stuff.
It's about the weather ...
... summer vacation at the Baltic Sea (the guys all dressed in winter-fur) ... "it's all great here, why shall we go to the Black Sea?" (Gregoria and krimea were among the most exclusive and sunny vacation destinations.

- What Climatologists predicted w/ higher temperatures & melting ice (higher sea levels & more water in the atmosphere)
- was fewer storms - but larger ones.
- So - what have *your* news reports shown - ??
- Climate is a Complex & Chaotic System that is hard to predict all right - so why should that mean it can't be altered &/or the results of doing so wouldn't be serious? In fact, Chaotic Systems are *sensitive* to changes in input - especially over time...

The Right Stuff is probably my second-favorite Philip Kaufman film next to his terrific New Age remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Unbearable Lightness of Being is a pretty decent adaptation too.
  11:04am

without googling, I believe Kaufman did Henry and June, which was one of the first NC-17 films. I think the horror film he did was the remake if Invasion of The Body Snatchers

The Astronauts were Military Jock deathwish testpilot types - I got mixed feelings about them & the whole enterprise - but definite nostalgia for the Space Race in my youth, & it's obvious & strong Metaphorical correlation to the Psychedelic &/or Consciousness Movement(s) & such...The film is its' own thing, of course.
