@Mariano I sobered up pretty good after eating up what's left in the fridge before I move into the van where much lesser appointments are expected.

@Holly, for goodness sakes, your're pretty, you could have gotten the pizza delivery guy to give you lift without even expecting a tip! BTW are you having to walk under those creepy crackling hi-tension lines tha make every step a scene out of a mass murder video?

Wow, this song is so good. It's the song that every nostalgia band that every reunited should have recorded instead of "Pool It!"

@holly don't worry, the way income inequality is growing you will soon be able to shield yourself from "needy person[s]" and enjoy your pizza in a comfortably equipped panic room, with a year's supply of diabetes medication on hand for your convenience.

After carrying a 4 drive RAID on the subway to another location for data transfer, I can said: The cloud can go ram it.

Haha, I didn't gain any friends that way but people stopped bumming fags from me after that. I am the cigarette smoker whisperer
  9:44pm

I bought cigarette loads as a kid. Was like 11 or 12. So excited! Until I realized I didn’t know anyone who smoked.

About four years later I saw Ivan get his guitar tech roughed up at an Iggy show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm

He tossed his Les Paul into the crowd at the end of the set and the tech went after it. To his credit, he cam back with the body *and* the neck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm

Great essay! That is such a trip: FLR played with David Johansen, Scandal, John Waite, and was the drummer on Bon Jovi's "Runaway," and lots of other stuff. What a life!

I'm highly suggestible.
Avatar 10:19pm
Holly in NC:

@nanantatee - Sorry for being so thinskinned & bitchy. I'm actually in a really scary bad financial place at the moment, buying a $9 pizza was an act of gross stupidity on multiple levels, plus Chase misapplied our mortage payment (which has never been late, always early, always extra to principal) for about the 20th time so I walked into both a threatening "we've not received payment letter" AND a "you're such a good customer, time to refinance" letter on the stoop , so... sorry.
Avatar 10:21pm
Whooda:

@Holly I recently learnt a new trick for pesky money leeches. Chase them away with a machete. Only a temporary fix though.
  10:25pm
Stevel:

Whooda is onto something.

Hey Holly. Peace to you amongst your money woes.
Avatar 10:27pm
nanantatee:

@holly any inferred judgments are on humanity as a whole and not personal... mostly i'm just making myself laugh and i certainly didn't mean to make you feel bad, hope things work out for you <3
Avatar 10:28pm
Whooda:

@nanatatee that will teach you not to get between a stressed out Momma bear and her pizza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
mariano:

Gotta admit, I got totally pulled into that essay. What a trajectory, from the bands to the A&R days. Feel like I've just come back from a trip back in time. And what do I find when I return? Whooda terrorizing crack whores with a machete, and the banks terrorizing Holly. What a state of affairs!
Avatar 10:30pm
Holly in NC:

I would love a machete, but I am so klutzy I suspect I would disembowel myself well before I managed to chop down bamboo or scare away crack whores.

And I'm not at all meaning to be facetious about crack whores.

@ efd & everyone - re Pop will Eat Itself - I still have huge spot in my heart for "Def Con One" - 1st song to sample Stooges? Maybe? Does anyone know?
Avatar 10:31pm

@Mariano I can't see any difference between a crack whore and a Wall Street banker, except maybe the banker will never see the inside of a jail cell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
mariano:

I was once a crack whore, but it was before I found Satan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
mariano:

@Whooda: My feelings exactly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
efd:

@Holly, good question! Don't have time to research now, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
efd:

Also everyone should feel free to move on to topics other than crack whores.
Avatar 10:36pm
Holly in NC:

@Mariano - Whenever I see "Satan", all I can think of is the Butthole Surfers' Sweet Loaf ...

"Daddy, what does regret mean? Well son, the funny thing about regret is,It’s better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven’t done. And by the way, if you see your Mom this weekend, be sure and tell her, SATAN, SATAN, SATAN!!!"

That may explain a lot about me :-)
Avatar 10:39pm
Whooda:

@Holly that reminds me of one of my favorite philosophies, "It's always easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission. "
Avatar 10:40pm
nanantatee:

what about the pop fest coming up, i want tix to dwight twilley. and shoes. dammit! i want them both! and i am poor too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
mariano:

@Holly: Locust Abortion Technician is an all-time favorite album, and that song has probably done more to promote Satan than Anton LaVey!
Avatar 10:47pm
Holly in NC:

@Mariano - Locust Abortion Technician is SOO good. I in fact opine that all Surfers releases up to & including Hairway to Steven are brilliant. Then... ick. What happened?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
mariano:

@Holly: Yeah, something happened. I really love Hairway too, I didn't realize till just a few years ago that John E Smoke wasn't actually live. Remember how the songs had pictures, not titles? But yeah, something happened, though I hear their live shows kept being good.

it's kinda hilarious to kill yourself on the G line...kinda like inside llewyn davis, john goodman criticized his friend for jumping off the george washington bridge. if you're gonna do it, do it during rush hour on the a train!
Avatar 11:11pm
Holly in NC:

Non NYC person here.. I assume G line is part of subway system?
Avatar 11:12pm
nanantatee:

@holly the G line is a notoriously slow line which runs from south brooklyn to queens, no stops to manhattan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
mariano:

I think last week there were two other subway suicides.
@Holly: the G is the stepchild of the MTA, only goes between Brooklyn and Queens, and oddly, one of the few direct ways of getting from south to north Brooklyn. Known for short trains, long waits, and spotty service, especially on weekends.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm

@nanantatee: Yeah, they always move so slow! I should note too that when I say south Brooklyn, I mean my own area, Carroll Gardens (with its own G stop!), which isn't really south Brooklyn at all, but gets called that on some maps. Maybe from back in the days before all Kings County was made coterminous with Brooklyn.

This reminds me of a one-off show I saw in a rural truck-stop converted into a music venue in South Carolina... i found a bud of bright green marijuana on the counter of the bathroom which i crumbled into a cigarette and smoked and watched this incredible band perform as I sat in an old church pew in a barn with a hay strewn floor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm

How come I never find bright green buds? Guess I'll just have to console myself with the ones I bought!
Avatar 11:25pm

Haha I'm not one to seek it out but since it found me and I was a cigarette smoker at the time I took it as a sign from the gods and it definitely enhanced the experience!

I grew up in southern Connecticut, ouside of New Haven, but the City was absolutely forbidden to me (this w/b 70s, early 80s).
My dad took me to Yankee Stadium once (Bucky Dent! swoon!), fam went to see Peter's Dragon & the Rockettes (?!) , girl scout troop went to see Annie, & finally my bf & I snuck onto train to Times Square to get fake ID (I chose the New School of Social Research) - we needed ID to see The Ramones - in New Haven. Also to get mudslides at Fitzwillys & sloe gin fizzes at the Norge. God those were the glory days of bartenders just not giving a shit!
