For those in the NYC area, there's a documentary about the NYAQ premiering at Anthology Film Archives on Sunday evening, May 18th! Showing with NY Eye and Ear Control! At least one Jeff should be there...

Jeff Golick:

Also, a brassy HELLO to Uncle Michael and duke!

This is one is a nice KV track. Somehow I lost track of his work around 2005 after he disbanded the Vandermark 5

Gotta go to a thesis defense. I hope there's at least a sword fight. catch you on the archives.

@duke: it could also be a fight on the mud, but that doesn't seem very pleasant in an academic setting. see ya duke

Shameless self-promotion: The NYC premiere of The Breath Courses Through Us, a documentary film about the New York Art Quartet, will take place on Sunday, May 18, 7:30 at Anthology Film Archives on Second Ave and 2nd St, with a screening of Michael Snow's New York Eye & Ear Control.
It is also John Tchicai's birthday today!

You know, you're opening theme sounded uncannily like the one by the same name by Roscoe Mitchell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Jeff Golick:

Not to be confused with Mitch Mitchell...

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO DJ NEWS...
You may be aware that your Charlotte, North Carolina, half of the DO Radio tag-team, Jeff Jackson, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times' Book Award, but did you know...

(1) Jeff J will be in Brooklyn on May 12 participating in the Franklin Park Reading Series: franklinparkbrooklyn.com...

(2) A play that Jeff co-wrote will be performed the week of May 9-17. The play will happen in the Brill Building in mid-town Manhattan and admission is FREE: www.timessquarenyc.org...
  1:19pm
?:

As a resident of NC, I had no idea, way to go! I am totally oblivious to the cultural musings of Charlotte...
  1:20pm
?:

This is a fantastic set by the way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks! ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Jeff Golick:

Next tune is the only one in this set not written by Wayne, though it is written by a Shorter.
  1:26pm
?:

Jeff, did you happen to catch any of Ken Vandermark's stride through our state? In or out of the triangle?
  1:29pm
Jeff J:

Unfortunately I didn't catch him this time! Saw him with Tim Daisy here in Charlotte a few years back. Fine show.

Doug Schulkind:

Jeff and Jeff, I was going to ask if you had the double-LP Alan Shorter made in Florence, but then I remembered that it was that OTHER BROTHER, Donald Ayler who made the double-LP in Florence. While I have you, do you have that one?!?

I was also unable to attend, luckily he as been a willing to performer round these parts.

Great Wayne Shorter set indeed! I've never listened to his solo work with much attention, never thought it could be better than that second Miles quintet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm

Heya, SeanG. Wayne holds the key, no doubt.
Avatar 1:43pm
earrie:

Great news.
Avatar 1:43pm
doca:

It is really an ugly cover for Blue Note (capa feia, in Portuguese, maybe explaining the album's title).
Avatar 1:49pm
doca:

A silly question: on this box set there are presented new recordings of those tunes or just they're re-released? I'm trying to figure out the differences between this one and the one released on the same title album.
  1:50pm
Dean:

Recently acquired both the Resonance box and the Parker Wood Flute Songs. Both are spectacular live accounts.
  1:51pm
Dean:

@doca, I believe most if not all of the tunes are new recordings from different live shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Jeff Golick:

@doca: Dean is correct. They are all new live recordings on the WOOD FLUTE SONGS box, though drawing on a book of tunes that (as you've seen) show up on many of the previous albums by the quartet (and related groups).
Avatar 1:54pm
doca:

Ah OK, thanks, Dean
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
Doug Schulkind:

I would've liked to have been there in your head as you had an inner dialogue about whether to play this song or not.
  1:56pm
Dean:

@Doug: Would have sounded a bit like Hamlet, no?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:58pm

I went to see 'The Past' by Asghar Farhadi. Excellent but not a bundle of laughs same guy a 'A Separation'.
